Uranium mining stocks struggled to gain traction at first due to widespread market skepticism toward the nuclear power sector. The skepticism was understandable, given competing narratives at the time that suggested a permanent long-term contraction for all other forms of energy aside from renewables. At the start of the decade, I named Cameco Corporation ( CCJ ) as one of my top stock picks for the decade, and since then it has not disappointed. I foresee continued gains for this stock for the rest of the decade; however, I switched from a buy-and-hold to buying the dips and selling the rallies, as it continues to push toward new all-time highs. The recent 30% decline in its share price from all-time highs reached at the start of the year is shaping up to be a good opportunity to start building up my position again. I recently bought shares with the intention of continuing to buy from here if it declines further. Going From a Hold to a Buy I last covered Cameco in January when it was trading near the all-time high it reached that month. I had it as a Hold then, given that I saw its share price getting ahead in terms of its valuation and its growth potential. It was trading at $128/share then, while it is currently trading at $106/share, as I write this. Cameco share price & other metrics (Seeking Alpha) With a forward P/E ratio at about 90, CCJ is still trading at a significant premium, even after the recent sizable share price pullback. For this reason, I am proceeding cautiously, looking to buy further dips, while at the same time, I intend to sell if the stock reaches new all-time highs.
