Like many medical school students, Sam was broke. The 22-year-old aspiring orthopedic surgeon from northern India got some money from his parents, but he says he spent most of it subsidizing his licensing exams, and he’s still saving up to hopefully emigrate to the US after graduation. So he started searching for ways to make additional money online. Sam, who requested a pseudonym to avoid jeopardizing his medical career and immigration status, tried a few things, with varying degrees of legitimacy and success. He made YouTube shorts and sold study notes to other med students. It wasn’t until he started scrolling through his Instagram feed that he landed on an idea: Why not make an AI-generated girl using Google Gemini’s Nano Banana Pro and sell bikini photos of her online? magnez2 American Express ( AXP ) is set to announce first-quarter earnings on Thursday, and investors will watch the company’s premium card growth and member spending trends amid a softer consumer environment. Wall Street expects the credit card lender and network to post EPS of $3.99, while revenue is expected to rise 9.7% year-over-year to $18.61B for the quarter. The credit card lender missed earnings last quarter as expenses exceeded consensus and the growth of new cards acquired slowed. Still, member spending was strong, and credit remained healthy. CEO Stephen Squeri, during the Q4 earnings call, provided 2026 guidance of 9% to 10% revenue growth and EPS of $17.30 to $17.90. Squeri added that card fee growth is expected to pick up as the year progresses, driven by the impact of the Platinum refresh, with growth exiting the year in the high teens. However, the stock is down over 10% so far this year, underperforming the benchmark S&P 500, which has gained 3.2% in the same period. Seeking Alpha’s Quant Rating and its analysts are cautious, rating the stock a Hold. However, Wall Street analysts are bullish, rating it a Buy. Seeking Alpha analyst Passage Research highlighted that American Express faces near-term earnings risk due to potential sequential spending weakness, particularly in international and travel-related segments. The analyst added that Q1 revenue growth may fall short of Street estimates but expects a rebound in Q2 as geopolitical tensions ease and comparisons become more favorable. “However, AXP maintains robust capital allocation, with a 34% ROE, strong buybacks, and a 16% dividend increase supporting long-term compounding,” Passage Research concluded. During its last-quarter earnings call, the firm highlighted that operating expenses for 2026 are projected to grow in the mid-single digits, while marketing expenses are expected to increase in the low single digits. Morgan Stanley analysts noted that management’s confidence in long-term growth ta...

Property Play covers new and evolving opportunities for the real estate investor, from individuals to venture capitalists, private equity funds, family offices, institutional investors and large public companies. Sign up to receive future editions, straight to your inbox. Life science laboratories, mainly in biotech and biopharma, saw a massive drop in demand last year after the National Institutes of Health was forced to cancel billions of dollars in research grants. NIH funding was cut severely by the federal government. Of the 10 largest life sciences markets tracked by JLL, the aggregate vacancy rate was 27.4% in the first quarter of this year, up from 25.7% during the same period in 2025. Major markets like Boston and the Bay Area had vacancy rates over 30%. The sector, however, is beginning to stabilize. A separate report from CBRE shows venture capital investment in life sciences in the second half of 2025 was the strongest since 2022. In addition, the amount of space under construction is at its lowest since 2017. An October JLL report predicts, "gradual market stabilization driven by supply rationalization rather than dramatic demand recovery." JLL forecasts that availability rates will decline to approximately 20% by 2030, "assuming continued below-average absorption coupled with significant supply exits through distress sales and adaptive reuse projects." The market correction in the space, however, has been historic, according to Travis McCready, head of industries leasing advisory at JLL. And the trouble isn't just funding cuts. McCready characterized the current oversupply situation as a combination of unprecedented construction combined with a fundamental change in how life sciences companies are using real estate. "This entire story and this entire narrative is evolving in real time," said McCready. "We got really, really good at building that asset class ...

JHVEPhoto NIO ( NIO ) updated on Wednesday that it will use Auto China 2026 to present the NIO, ONVO, and Firefly brands together for the first time at a major global auto show, under the theme "A Vast New Realm." The electric vehicle maker plans to display 11 models and 12 full-stack technologies. In a LinkedIn post, NIO ( NIO ) highlighted that the showcasing of the three brands will signal a unified presence rather than separate product reveals. It also noted that Firefly will bring a refreshed model plus three custom builds, emphasizing design, powertrain, and smart-feature upgrades. The Auto China 2026 event is seen by the company as a milestone moment where it can show off the breadth of its portfolio, from premium EVs to lifestyle branding. jetcityimage/iStock Editorial via Getty Images GE Vernova ( GEV ) up 11.5% to an all-time high of $1,142 in early trading Wednesday after crushing expectations for Q1 earnings and raising revenue guidance for the full year, sparked by rising demand for its power and electrification solutions. Q1 net profit skyrocketed to $4.75B, or $17.44/share, including a $3.99B pre-tax gain related to the Prolec GE acquisition, from $264M, or $0.91/share, in the year-earlier quarter, while revenues rose 16% Y/Y to $9.4B. Q1 revenues jumped 12% Y/Y to $4.97B at the company's power unit and surged 61% to $2.96B at the electrification unit, although sales at the wind business fell 23% to $1.43B; orders surged 71% on an organic basis to $18.3B. GE Vernova ( GEV ) raised FY 2026 guidance for revenues of $44.5B-$45.5B, up from its previous outlook of $44B-$45B; adjusted EBITDA margin of 12%-14%, up from 11%-13%; and free cash flow of $6.5B-$7.5B, up from $5B-$5.5B. Analysts on average expect full-year revenues of $44.5B and adjusted EBITDA margin of 13.7%, according to data compiled by LSEG. "We expect substantially more growth moving forward," CEO Scott Strazik said on the company's earnings conference call, noting that data centers accounted for ~$2.4B in orders during the latest quarter—more than in all of last year. Strazik also said the company expects to reach at least 110 GW of combined gas turbine backlog and slot reservation agreements by year-end. GE Vernova ( GEV ) "delivered strong beat-and-raise results while continuing to show strong bookings," Oppenheimer analyst Colin Rusch said in a note. "Important in our view is that bookings in the quarter totaled $18.3B, a run rate that supports our 2030 revenue estimates, as we believe investors are now looking out to the end of the decade for valuation support."
