( AAPL ) for a while, not based on the business itself, which I find simply formidable, but more on the inherent valuation that exceeds the vast majority of its peers, while it does not do enough, in my opinion, to catch up in the AI game right now. Since my last Sell rating , Apple has seen its stock price only increase by 0.69% while the S&P 500 ( SP500 ) rose by 2.65%. With the announcement of the CEO transition as well as the upcoming earnings, I want to dive into the company to see if it is worth changing my overall rating on the tech giant ahead of its earnings release on April 30th. The new CEO As Tim Cook steps down from the CEO role , we can only applaud to its operational success as under his tenure, Apple’s market value grew by nearly $3.7T, surpassing the value created by any other American CEO in total dollars, except Nvidia's ( NVDA ) Jensen Huang. Revenue also quadrupled during his tenure from $100B to $400B. Cook’s most significant achievement has been the development of the services division which includes the App Store, Apple Pay, Apple Music, and iCloud, that provides a high-margin cushion and evolved into a more than $100B annual business. Cook also oversaw the creation of the wearables category that solidified the company’s position as a health and lifestyle brand. Looking ahead to John Ternus’s tenure, it is a shift from operational and supply chain mastery and more toward engineering and product architecture . He has been a perennial insider as he joined the design team in 2001 and has overseen hardware engineering of every major product line, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac and AirPods. His leadership style has been described as decisive and instant-led, which is relatively different than Cook’s style. His style has been compared to Steve Jobs and this is viewed as an essential by the Board to navigate the current industry transition driven by AI. The tran...
