The second lady has launched a serviceable children’s podcast. That seems strategic given JD Vance’s potential presidential run I know that child labour is generally frowned upon but, in this economy, sometimes you’ve got to put your kid to work. Last week I gave my four-year-old an important assignment: she had to watch all four episodes of Usha Vance’s new video podcast and provide a detailed review. Forty minutes later, her verdict was in: “I love it, mama.” To be fair, my kid loves pretty much anything on a screen. Still, I didn’t hate Usha’s new children’s podcast either. Launched a couple of weeks ago, Storytime With the Second Lady is aimed at promoting literacy. In the first instalment, Usha reads The Tale of Peter Rabbit; in subsequent episodes, a celebrity guest reads their favourite book. Continue reading...

tumsasedgars/iStock via Getty Images Introduction Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc. ( RYAM ) has moved from low $3s to high $11s in the last one year — a sharp 3-4x move driven by expectations of recovery, which is in turn driven by pricing gains in cellulose specialties and expected positive free cash flow in 2026. But there’s a problem. The valuation is already quite high — too high in my opinion — and has caught up with the recovery narrative. The stock is not trading at distressed multiples any more. It is actually closer to mid-cycle multiples, even though earnings are still depressed. Given their high leverage and still negative FCF, the margin for error is thin. RYAM currently trades at ~8-9x EBITDA on about $140M earnings. Net debt is above $700M, and FCF is still negative. Management’s strategy is to use the new pricing uptick to expand margins, and maybe become cash flow positive in 2026. If EBITDA goes up to ~$200M, we could justify a low-to-mid teens price. Anything more than that requires EBITDA approaching $300M. And that needs a near-perfect execution across pricing, costs, and portfolio mix. That makes further upside from here heavily dependent on how well the company can execute — especially in translating pricing gains into sustained EBITDA increase. The company must also execute cost discipline and deleverage. Such heavy dependence on execution makes the current price less attractive than a year ago. Let's take a look at RYAM ahead of its next earnings release on May 5th. Rayonier Advanced Materials B usiness Overview Rayonier had roughly $1.47B in annual revenue last year, but most of the earnings came from specific segments. RYAM’s business has five segments, but Cellulose Specialties is the core driver. It typically accounts for ~50-60% of revenue and 70-80% EBITDA (inferred from margin disclosures). Thus, Cellulose is the economic driver for RYAM, producing high-purity cellulose used in applications like cigarette filters, pharmaceuticals, and ...
