Getty Images ZIM Integrated Shipping ( ZIM ) suffered a contraction in average freight rates in the first fiscal quarter that weighed on the company's overall financial performance, including revenues and free cash flow. The pricing backdrop and resulting negative net earnings in Q1'26 have weighed on ZIM's stock performance, but I remain bullish on the company's prospects in the near term. Further, an acquisition offer from Hapag-Lloyd is on the table to buy ZIM Integrated Shipping for $35 per share in cash which continues to leave arbitrage upside on the table for investors if the transaction closes at the end of the year. YCharts Previous Rating I rated ZIM Integrated Shipping a 'Strong Buy' in my last review in March -- Arbitrage Opportunity -- as Hapag-Lloyd's acquisition offer provided investors with a strong upside case. However, given intensifying regional conflict, shares continue to trade at a massive discount to the takeover price. Further, shipping rates have surged lately, suggesting that the earnings prospects of ZIM Integrated Shipping could improve in the short-term, potentially resulting in new dividend payments throughout this year. Geopolitical Tension/Political Considerations Keeping Price Well Below $35 Per Share ZIM Integrated Shipping is seeing top line and earnings pressure amid a number of challenges in the shipping industry. In the first-quarter, the firm has seen a 26% drop in average freight rates to $1,310 per TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) as well as a drop in shipping containers shipped to a number of destinations. A key reason for this drop in cargo freight rates, and the resulting top line pressure, was a softer macroeconomic demand environment. The Strait of Hormuz closure, following the U.S.'s attack on Iran, has led to major congestion issues and dislocated supply chains, causing a serious increase in shipping rates lately. According to the Drewry World Container Index, which measures cargo freight rates for major shipping rout...

champc/iStock via Getty Images Market review Health care stocks declined during the first quarter, slightly underperforming the broader market as the escalation of the Iran conflict weighed on asset prices. Within the sector, life sciences tools and health care equipment were particularly weak as concerns around demand weighed, while large-cap pharmaceutical names benefited from their defensive profile as investors sought safe havens amid rising macroeconomic uncertainty. Within the Fund For 1Q26, Nomura Healthcare Fund Institutional Class shares outperformed the Fund's benchmark, the Russell 3000 ® Healthcare Index. The biotechnology sector, the Fund's largest overweight, contributed modestly to relative performance, as favorable allocation was largely offset by negative effects from stock selection. Contributors to relative performance included Roivant Sciences Inc. ( ROIV ), Ventyx Biosciences Inc. (VTYX), and Alkermes PLC ( ALKS ). Roivant advanced due to positive clinical data and a patent settlement with Moderna Inc. ( MRNA ) over lipid nanoparticle technology. Shares of Alkermes similarly advanced, supported by continued pipeline progress and the acquisition of a peer company late in the quarter. Among detractors in the biotechnology sector, shares of GRAIL Inc. ( GRAL ) declined sharply after its National Health Service ( NHS ) multi-cancer early detection screening study showed disappointing results. UniQure N.V. ( QURE ) also detracted from performance, following an unfavorable Food and Drug Administration (FDA) meeting outcome that cast doubt on the regulatory pathway for AMT-130, its Huntington's disease gene therapy. Shares of Rigel Pharmaceuticals Inc. ( RIGL ) declined, driven by weaker-than-expected earnings. The pharmaceutical sector contributed to relative performance through both favorable above-benchmark allocation and positive stock selection. Shares of UCB SA ( UCBJF ) outperformed on continued strength in its BIMZELX ® franchise. AstraZeneca P...
