monticelllo/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Introduction Brown-Forman Corporation ( BF.A ) ( BF.B ) recently fell to attractive levels following a continued decline over the past half a decade, recently rising on the news of a potential buyout. Although the business quality remains high, the portfolio is attractive, and the balance sheet is healthy, Brown-Forman is a Hold, as the stock is trading somewhere in the middle of what I consider a fair valuation for this business and the levels we might see them getting bought at, with rising risks of volatility in case no deal is reached alongside the Iran-driven pressure. Navigating a Tough Environment Brown-Forman Corporation IR Brown-Forman's Q3'FY26 and YTD performance was strong overall, beating the market's expectations and navigating the ongoing macro headwinds such as lower used barrel sales and American products remaining off the shelf in Canada (where reported sales are down 60% on a reported basis due to the Trump-related boycott; not that big for them on a global scale), while advancing in emerging markets and reporting double-digit growth in their New Mix/innovation portfolio, reporting $628 million in free cash flow during the 9M period (vs. $329 in 9M'FY25) as a result of falling CAPEX and working capital tailwinds. Following this report, the company remains on track to meet their guidance, with their portfolio optimizations as they focus on the growth segment, aiming at an organic net sales and operating income decline in the low-single-digit range, with CAPEX of $110 million to $120 million. Brown-Forman Corporation IR Recently, Brown-Forman was reportedly the target of a potential acquisition, with Sazerac reportedly competing with Pernod Ricard ( PDRDF ) in a deal that a TD Cowen analyst stated could lead to a price of $33 to $34 at the time, with the Sazerac offer reportedly landing at $15 billion, meaning about $32 per share. Unless you bought this shortly before the initial reports came out, this w...

Uncertainty is once again plaguing financial markets after a tumultuous weekend which saw the US Navy firing upon and boarding an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman, deepening concern over the potential outcome of any future talks between the two nations. Oil and natural gas prices surged. Brent jumped as much as 7.9%, while European gas climbed as much as 11%. Tehran closed the chokepoint again on Saturday, after it said a US blockade of Iran-linked ships violated a ceasefire agreement. Trump, who on Friday said a deal with Iran was all but agreed, threatened on Sunday to destroy every power plant and bridge in Iran if negotiations fail. Iranians have denied conceding to several of the points the US president has said are part of the plan, including the end of their nuclear program and handing over stockpiles of enriched uranium to the US. It’s also unclear whether Iranian and US officials will meet in Islamabad, Pakistan before the 14-day ceasefire is set to expire on Tuesday. Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are scheduled to leave for Islamabad Monday night for talks on Tuesday, a White House official said. S&P 500 futures fell 0.4%, while a gauge of European stocks dropped 1% as investors tried to gauge what comes next. Trump said he sees a chance for a deal, an assertion countered by Iranians who said there was no “clear prospect” for an agreement. Tehran has no plans to attend the potential negotiations though a final decision hasn’t been made, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told reporters on Monday. “There are various indications that there is no seriousness on the US side in advancing diplomacy,” he added. Keep track of the twists and turns — and the global fallout — of the war with Iran here .
