Estée Lauder Cos. is open to acquisitions as the owner of the Jo Malone and Le Labo brands enters the second year of a turnaround plan under Chief Executive Officer Stéphane de La Faverie . “We are looking at the portfolio, and we will always be part of the M&A discussion,” De La Faverie told Bloomberg TV on Monday. The focus is on accelerating growth and rebuilding profitability, he said, and that includes incubating and scaling new brands. De La Faverie took over with Estée Lauder under pressure to bolster falling market share in the US and sluggish sales in China. Estée Lauder’s stock has surged more than 50% over the past 12 months, though it took a hit this month when the company’s outlook fell short of investors’ expectations. On Monday, de La Faverie said Estée Lauder is off to a “very strong start” this year in China, especially in fragrance, while brands like The Ordinary are selling well in the US. Estée Lauder is also expected to divest underperforming brands, with analysts naming beauty companies like Too Faced and Smashbox, as well as skincare brands like Origins and Darphin, as potential options. It’s too early to say how the US Supreme Court striking down President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Friday will impact the company, he said. Estée Lauder has previously said it expects a $100 million hit to profitability from tariffs, which will show up mainly in the next six months. Estée Lauder’s diversified manufacturing helps alleviate the impact, the CEO said. “You cannot control geopolitics,” he said. “What I can control is how do we run our business, how do we react to anything that is happening out there.”

Eutelsat Communications SA is seeking to raise €1.5 billion ($1.8 billion) as the satellite company looks to refinance outstanding debt after government rescue. The company is holding investor calls on Monday and is selling two euro-denominated bonds, a five-year note with an initial yield of around 6.375% and a seven-year note yielding around 6.875%, according to a person familiar with the matter. The company will use the proceeds to fully redeem its €600 million 2.25% notes due 2027 and its €600 million notes 9.75% due 2029. The funding will also be used to add cash to the company’s balance sheet and pay related transaction fees and expenses. Eutelsat’s new bond issuance “essentially clears the decks of debt issued in more distressed times, taking advantage of spread tightening since the government-sponsored rescue right issue of last year,” wrote Aidan Cheslin , senior credit analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence. Last year, Eutelsat raised €1.35 billion from the French government and other investors to expand its satellite fleet as a European alternative to Elon Musk’s Starlink. France views the company as strategically important for the continent’s sovereignty as ties with the US continue to fray. Monday’s new bonds are expected to receive Ba3 rating from Moody’s Ratings and BB from S&P Global Ratings. BNP Paribas SA, Credit Agricole SA and Societe Generale SA are acting as global coordinators for the transaction. CIA Admits There Was Political Bias In Obama-Era Intelligence For years, anyone who questioned whether Washington’s intelligence machinery tilted left was told they were peddling conspiracies. That narrative fell apart on Friday, when CIA Director John Ratcliffe ordered the official retraction or major revision of nineteen intelligence products produced during the Obama years, citing political bias and substandard analytic tradecraft. It’s the first official acknowledgment that America’s most powerful spy agency let politics color its assessments. "The intelligence products we released to the American people today — produced before my tenure as DCIA — fall short of the high standards of impartiality that CIA must uphold and do not reflect the expertise for which our analysts are renowned," Director Ratcliffe said in a statement. " There is absolutely no room for bias in our work and when we identify instances where analytic rigor has been compromised, we have a responsibility to correct the record. These actions underscore our commitment to transparency, accountability, and objective intelligence analysis. Our recent successes in Operation ABSOLUTE RESOLVE and Operation MIDNIGHT HAMMER exemplify our dedication to analytic excellence.” The bombshell came after the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB) completed an independent review of hundreds of finished CIA reports spanning the past decade. This period includes Barack Obama’s second term and the Russian collusion hoax. The PIAB identified nineteen intelligence products that “failed to be independent of political consideration.” Deputy Director Michael Ellis led an internal review that confirmed the findings. Ratcliffe’s response was swift and blunt. “The intelligence products we released to the American people today — produced before my tenure as DCIA — fall short of the high standards of impartiality that CIA must uphold and do not reflect the expertise for which our analysts are renowned,” he said. “The...

No one could have stopped John Davidson - who has Tourette syndrome - yelling out the N-word while two black actors, Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo, were presenting a prize. But given that they did use the two-hour time delay to judiciously remove Akinola Davies Jr’s shout of “Free Palestine!” and Alan Cumming’s comparison of the themes of Zootropolis 2 (“Lies, corrupt leaders, poisoning and persecution of a race”) to contemporary America, it seems a perverse decision not to remove an appalling slur, yelled involuntarily, from the TV broadcast.
