The world's largest automaker has had a somewhat difficult relationship with battery-electric vehicles. Toyota was an early pioneer of hybrid powertrains, and it remains a fan today, often saying that given limited battery supply, it makes sense to build more hybrids than fewer EVs. Its first full BEV had a rocky start, suffering a recall due to improperly attached wheels just as the cars were hitting showrooms. Reviews for the awkwardly named bZ4x were mixed ; the car did little to stand out among the competition. Toyota didn't get to be the world's largest automaker by being completely blind to feedback, and last year, it gave its EV platform (called -TNGA and shared with Lexus and Subaru) a bit of a spiff-up. To start, it simplified the name—the small electric SUV is now just called the bZ. It uses a new 74.7 kWh battery pack, available with either front- or all-wheel drive powertrains that now use silicon carbide power electronics. And for the North American market, instead of a CCS1 port just behind the front passenger wheel, you'll now see a Tesla-style NACS socket. Our test bZ was the $37,900 XLE FWD Plus, which has the most range of any bZ at 314 miles (505 km) according to the EPA test cycle. When you realize that the pre-facelift version managed just 252 miles (405 km) with 71.4 kWh onboard, the scale of the improvement becomes clear. Read full article Comments

In the days since the US Supreme Court declared most of President Donald Trump ’s global tariffs illegal, more than 100 companies filed new lawsuits, underscoring widespread concerns that the administration won’t readily refund the billions of dollars it’s already collected. Public companies and household names are joining the clamor. FedEx Corp. filed suit on Monday, followed by Dyson Inc. , Dollar General Corp. , Bausch & Lomb Inc. , Brooks Brothers , and Sol de Janeiro USA Inc . Units of cosmetic giant L’Oreal SA and shoe companies On Holding AG and Skechers USA Inc. also filed suit to recoup what they’ve paid on imports. The justices were silent on the refund question, leaving questions of payback to the New York-based US Court of International Trade . On Friday, the Justice Department is due to weigh in on immediate next steps in the original litigation that went before the Supreme Court, which could indicate how quickly – or slowly – the government is willing to move to resolve the mounting claims. Read More: Trump Faces Tough Legal Landscape to Oppose Tariff Refunds Trump has suggested his administration might oppose refunds, or at least not make the process easy for the importers that have paid more than $170 billion in tariffs in the past 10 months. “I guess it has to get litigated,” he said after the Feb. 20 ruling, speculating it could take years to play out. The latest cases have pushed the total number of tariff lawsuits above 2,000, according to a Bloomberg News analysis . It’s already a hefty caseload for the trade court to manage and represents only a small fraction of the hundreds of thousands of importers that paid the tariffs that the justices struck down. In a statement, FedEx said it “has taken necessary action to protect the company’s rights as an importer of record to seek duty refunds” following the Supreme Court’s ruling. “If refunds are issued to FedEx, we will issue refunds to the shippers and consumers who originally bore those charges.” ...

Matt Goodwin claimed cheating, Labour’s Gorton candidate quickly fled, Keir was tin-eared and Kemi brought the comedy It could have been a flash of arrogance. Hubris for the ages. On Thursday morning, when most pundits were still calling the Gorton and Denton byelection a three-way fight that was impossible to call, the Green party sent a note to journalists. Come to the first press conference of Hannah Spencer MP tomorrow. And while you’re about it, stay on to join her for her first constituency surgery. What could possibly go wrong? As it happens … absolutely nothing. In the end it wasn’t even close, with the Greens getting 40% of the vote and Reform trailing a long way behind in second on 28%. Labour came a distant third on 25%. About the worst possible result for them, leaving in tatters the idea that they were the only progressive party on the left that could defeat Reform. For the Greens, this was a night of undiluted triumph. The first byelection victory in their history. In a seat they had never previously targeted. Life couldn’t be more sweet. Continue reading...

Earnings Call Insights: Arcosa, Inc. (ACA) Q4 2025 Management View Antonio Carrillo, President and CEO, highlighted "2025 was an outstanding year for Arcosa, demonstrated by our exceptional financial performance and significant advancement of our strategic transformation." He emphasized record revenues of $2.9 billion, record adjusted EBITDA of $583 million, and a 20.2% adjusted EBITDA margin. Carrillo pointed out momentum in Construction Materials and Engineered Structures, with cyclical expansion in both barge and wind towers. He announced the sale of the barge business for $450 million in cash, stating, "we believe this is the right time to transition the barge business to an owner aligned with its long-term growth plans." Carrillo underscored the divestiture's impact, noting, "The barge transaction further reduces portfolio complexity and cyclicality, raises our overall margin profile and enhances the long-term resiliency of the company." Gail Peck, Chief Financial Officer, reported, "During the quarter, we generated $120 million of operating cash flow...CapEx for the fourth quarter was $64 million, resulting in full year CapEx of $166 million, which was above the high end of our guidance range." Peck confirmed that free cash flow for the quarter was roughly $60 million and was $202 million for the full year. She commented, "We ended the year with net debt to adjusted EBITDA of 2.3x comfortably within our target leverage range. This is down from 2.9x at the start of the year." Outlook Carrillo set 2026 revenue guidance at $2.95 billion to $3.1 billion and adjusted EBITDA between $590 million and $640 million, both excluding the barge divestiture impact. He stated, "Our 2026 guidance incorporates another record year for our growth businesses, Construction Materials and Engineered Structures." Barge business guidance for 2026 is full year revenues of $410 million to $430 million and adjusted EBITDA of $70 million to $75 million. The company will update full year g...
