Hearn's attorney afterward blasted prosecutors for obtaining an indictment against the 67-year-old, calling him a political "scapegoat" for the Trump administration's controversial handling of the renovation of the roughly 2,000-foot Reflecting Pool. "Mr. Hearn pled not guilty because he is not guilty," the attorney, Norm Eisen , told reporters outside of D.C. Superior Court. "If Mr. Hearn can be charged with a felony for touching the Reflecting Pool, every American is at risk, and every American should be alarmed about this prosecution," Eisen said. Bernanke is the newest member of the trust, which was designed to “hold Anthropic to its mission” and foster the “responsible development of advanced AI for the long-term benefit of humanity.” In his role, Bernanke will provide insight on how AI is altering the economy, providing insight into Anthropic's economic research and other areas. “The potential of artificial intelligence is enormous, and so is the range of outcomes. How that potential plays out will depend, in part, on the institutions we build around it,” said Dr. Bernanke in a statement . “Anthropic has created a unique governance structure to try to ensure that the long-run benefits of AI for humanity far outweigh the risks. The lawsuit targets 3M ( MMM ), EIDP Inc., Chemours ( CC ), Corteva ( CTVA ) and DuPont ( DD ), alleging the companies manufactured, marketed and sold PFAS-containing products despite longstanding knowledge of the chemicals' health and environmental risks. James is seeking to hold the companies financially responsible for environmental cleanup efforts across New York, recover damages and restitution, and require stronger consumer warnings on products containing harmful PFAS substances. For investors, the case represents another chapter in the chemical industry's long-running PFAS liability saga. Companies including 3M ( MMM ) and DuPont-related ( DD ) businesses have already agreed to multibillion-dollar settlements with water providers and local governments nationwide, reflecting mounting costs associated with cleaning up contamination. The New York lawsuit could further increase legal and remediation exposure for a sector already grappling with years of PFAS-related claims. Allegations of decades-long concealment PFAS, a family of synthetic chemicals developed in the 1940s, have been widely used in products ranging from non-stick cookware and food packaging to stain-resistant fabrics, water-repellent clothing and cosmetics.
