Earnings Call Insights: Trinity Capital (TRIN) Q4 2025 Management View CEO Kyle Brown highlighted that "2025 was a banner year for us. We achieved records in many major operating categories." Brown stated, "We delivered $40 million in net investment income, a 15% increase compared to Q4 of last year. Our net asset value grew 10% quarter-over-quarter to a record $1.1 billion. Platform AUM increased to more than $2.8 billion, up 38% year-over-year." He underscored robust credit quality with "non-accruals at less than 1% of the portfolio at fair value" and highlighted the shift to a $0.17 per month distribution for the first quarter, continuing a streak of consistent or increased dividends for over six years. Brown discussed strategic positioning in AI and software, noting, "Enterprise SaaS is currently 9% of our portfolio," and described the company's focus on financing the infrastructure supporting AI, such as data centers and equipment, rather than betting on individual application winners. CFO Michael Testa reported, "We generated $83 million in total investment income, a 17.5% year-over-year increase and $40 million in net investment income or $0.52 per basic share, representing 102% coverage of our quarterly distribution." Software companies will make it through the current wave of artificial intelligence disruption, said Alfred Lin , a co-steward and partner at Sequoia Capital. “Let’s not forget AI is a lot of software,” Lin said in a Bloomberg Television interview on Wednesday. “Legacy software companies of yesteryear like Oracle still exist today.” Lin added that he believes AI ultimately will improve most companies. “The impacts of AI are real,” he said. “They’re going to allow us to do a lot more than we used to be able to do.” Fears over AI disruption have wreaked havoc on software stocks over the last few months. The AI scare trade shook Wall Street again this week after a report from Citrini Research laid out potential risks posed by AI. In one of Lin’s first public appearances since becoming co-steward of Sequoia in November, he said that the firm was focused on using AI to amplify the work currently done by humans. He pointed to Sequoia’s recent investment in Rowspace AI Inc. as an example of how the technology can help people work more efficiently and make better decisions. Rowspace targets the financial services industry, offering companies a single platform to connect data. Sequoia led a $50 million funding round for the startup across its Series A and seed rounds, Rowspace said Wednesday. Other investors in the company include Emergence Capital. With Rowspace’s technology, “there is still a human in the loop,” Lin said. The addition of new AI tools “leaves all of us to do much more strategic work, much more creative work, and much more human work.” At Sequoia, Lin has invested in companies like OpenAI, Airbnb Inc., DoorDash Inc. and Kalshi Inc. I published a deeper study on Camden Property Trust ( CPT ) to discuss the multifamily giant’s pivot towards share repurchases. Following a prolonged period of undervaluation relative to private markets, CPT decided to become a more concerted capital recycler. This article will highlight another avenue for delivering value to shareholders. This week, Veris Residential ( VRE ) announced an agreement to be acquired by an investor group led by Affinius Capital. The move sent shares higher as the agreement was priced at nearly 25% above the company’s market share price. Before diving into the deal, let’s review my prior coverage of VRE. Review of Prior Coverage VRE is one of the smaller multifamily REITs that trades publicly. While the company is one of the older publicly traded REITs, the portfolio and management team have been rolled over several times, most recently in 2020. After the pandemic, VRE moved towards becoming a pure-play multifamily REIT, shedding their office exposure. "Over the past five years, we have undertaken meaningful steps to pivot away from office, simplifying and focusing the business, strengthening our balance sheet, and enhancing our operational platform," said CEO Mahbod Nia. My prior coverage dove into VRE’s business model of high-income tenants and premium markets. In my coverage, I called VRE an innovator with their use of artificial intelligence to aid leasing and operations. VRE emphasis urban centers within large MSAs, such as Boston, New York, Newark, and Washington D.C. VRE owns high-quality assets and prices their units accordingly.
