Can cutting methane leaks help fuel the rising energy demand from AI data centers? On this episode of the ESG Currents podcast, Carl Pope, former Sierra Club executive director, and Last Mile Production CEO Zach Wagner join BI climate analyst Andrew Stevenson to discuss how leaking and vented methane has the potential to help meet Texas’ surging power demand. Methane leaks are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, and capturing that lost gas could help ease rising US natural gas costs.

US stocks gained on Wednesday as Nvidia Corp. , the top-weighted S&P 500 Index stock, climbed ahead of the chipmaker’s earnings report after the market close. The S&P 500 Index rose 0.6% at 9:54 a.m. in New York, with five of 11 sectors in the green, led by shares of technology, communications and financial companies. The Nasdaq 100 Index added 1.2%. Shares of Nvidia, a benchmark for the artificial-intelligence trade, rose 1% . The company accounts for nearly 8% of the S&P 500, and its results come as investors are increasingly nervous about the outlook for AI and its disruptive potential across industries including finance and software. “The next compelling move in the stock market will be decided by tonight’s earnings/guidance from Nvidia,” Matthew Maley , chief market Strategist at Miller Tabak + Co., wrote in a note. “It remains the most important stock…in the most important leadership group…in the stock market.” Software stocks have been particularly vulnerable to AI jitters recently. Workday Inc. ’s disappointing results on Tuesday evening added to that concern. The company’s shares tumbled 4.1% after it gave an outlook for quarterly subscription sales that fell short of estimates. Also after the close, investors will get earnings from software companies Salesforce Inc. and Snowflake Inc. Axon Enterprise Inc. jumped after profits at the maker of Tasers and public-safety software beat estimates. Analysts see Axon as an AI winner rather than a company at risk of disruption. Decliners after disappointing earnings included GoDaddy Inc. , First Solar Inc. , Lowe’s Cos Inc. and HP Inc. , which warned that higher memory prices were weighing on its outlook. In other corporate news, Netflix Inc. advanced 4.6% after Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. said a new $31-a-share buyout offer from Paramount Skydance Corp. could lead to a better deal than its existing agreement with Netflix.

Fears that artificial intelligence may spell bad news for software giants have been pressuring stock market valuations for months. Now, those same fears are creeping into private markets too. Buyers are demanding discounts of as much as 20% to take a piece of private equity firms’ technology-heavy portfolios off their hands, according to people familiar with the matter. That’s worse than the 5% discount they were seeking just weeks ago, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing non-public deals. As a result, some investors who were preparing to launch their portfolio sales have pumped the brakes for now, two of these people said. “Many buyers would rather lower their price and then figure it out later,” Verdun Perry , global head of Blackstone Inc. ’s secondaries unit, said in an interview, declining to speak about specific deals. “As the dust settles, that discount will decline for some companies and increase for others.” The moves risk sparking a slowdown in secondaries transactions for buyouts and other parts of the private market. That slice of the industry has exploded in recent years as higher interest rates slowed traditional exits such as mergers and acquisitions as well as initial public offerings. Fears of AI’s potential for disruption intensified this year as AI startups continue to release new models that have the ability to transform the way many industries operate. Thoma Bravo and Vista Equity Partners have rushed to reassure investors that their portfolios were healthy, while publicly traded managers such as Blackstone, KKR & Co. , Apollo Global Management Inc. and Carlyle Group Inc. each said they have had minimal exposure to the sector. Sumala Chidchoi UK-based digital bank Revolut is reportedly eyeing a sale of shares in the second half of 2026 ahead of a potential public listing. The latest fundraising consideration is at an early stage, with no decision taken over the size and timing of the sale, people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified discussing confidential information, told Bloomberg News . The firm's investors have been pushing for a new process that would value Revolut at a minimum of $100B, the sources reportedly said. Notably, the secondary share sale in November 2025 valued Revolut at $75B . Widely seen as Europe's most valuable startup, the challenger bank's fundraising efforts have been closely watched with speculation that an IPO is on the cards, according to the Wednesday report. Revolut is working on a valuation of at least $150B through any listing, according to some of the people. As of early 2026, the company was said to be expanding its financial services. In September 2025, the closely-held fintech introduced a high-yield savings account for U.S. customers. When Block ( XYZ ) announces fourth-quarter earnings on Thursday, Wall Street expects the financial services provider to post EPS of $0.65, implying an 8.5% decline, while revenue is expected to increase 3.2% to $6.22B for the quarter. During the Q3 earnings call, Block projected a Q4 2025 gross profit of $2.755 billion, with year-over-year growth exceeding 19%. The firm expects Q4 adjusted operating income of $560 million, with adjusted operating income margins expanding to 20%. The financial services provider also raised full-year gross profit guidance to $10.243 billion and adjusted operating income to $2.056 billion, reflecting nearly 28% year-over-year growth. Block, with a market cap of $30.55B, bags a Buy rating from Seeking Alpha analysts and Wall Street analysts. Seeking Alpha analyst Stephen Ayers initiated a Buy rating, saying that Block’s core Square and Cash App businesses deliver double-digit growth and improving profitability despite Bitcoin-related headwinds. Ayers highlighted that Block’s upmarket strategy, data moat, and AI integration position it well against competitors like Toast, PayPal, and Big Tech entrants. However, he also warned about risks such as AI disruption, intensified competition, Afterpay credit exposure, and potential regulatory changes impacting interchange fees. However, the stock has declined nearly 22% so far this year, underperforming the broader S&P 500 Index, which gained 0.65% during the same period. Seeking Alpha’s Quant rating rated XYZ a Hold as momentum and revisions have dragged down the rating. Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported that Block ( XYZ ) could slash up to 10% of its workforce as part of an overhaul. However, Seeking Alpha analyst Juxtaposed Ideas rated the stock a Buy, saying that XYZ's renewed growth strategy leverages AI-driven features, demographic expansion, and aggressive cross-selling to accelerate adoption and boost profitability. Over the last two years, XYZ has beaten EPS estimates 38% of the t...

Monty Rakusen/DigitalVision via Getty Images Last week, a C-17 airlifted a small nuclear reactor from California to a US Air Force base in Utah. The effort was a collaboration of the DoD and the DoE, as they evaluated the Valar Atomics unit as a "stand-alone" solution to keep the base protected from grid disruption. The project is suggestive of the new outlook on nuclear power. In just the past two years, a very tactical approach has opened up for the once maligned energy source, Sec. Of Energy, Chris Wright declared at the event: The American nuclear renaissance is to get that ball moving again, fast carefully, but with private capital, American innovation, and determination." After decades of underinvestment, nuclear power has seen a serious reappraisal in the US and Europe, as well as an outright "double-down" in places like China, India, or Turkey. It is coming at the right time. Nuclear is the best long-term solution to the electric demands of global affluence and our new era of "always-on" 24/7 agentic AI. The International Energy Agency (IEA) sees global electricity demand outstripping total supply by 2030, with both emerging and developed markets responsible for the surge. The investment in electrical grids alone will need to climb 50% a year by 2030 to keep up with the surging demand. India's peak electricity load was 148 gigawatts in 2014; it surpassed 250 gigawatts in 2024 and is expected to reach 330 gigawatts by 2029-2030 due to broadening prosperity and more AC use. In the already saturated consumer markets of the West, the issue is AI. According to a new report , Britain's 140 slated datacenter projects would add 50 gigawatts of demand, about 5 gigawatts more than the nation's existing peak demand. The following table from McKinsey's October 2025 Global Energy Perspectives is instructive: McKinsey Energy Report 2025 The report suggested that nuclear energy is expected to grow by 3% annually through 2050 to meet rising demand, with at least 800 GW need...

That article served as a preview of its FQ4 2025 earnings report (ER). It was triggered by the insider transactions and rated PLTR as buy. Since then, a few new catalysts have evolved both around PLTR and the overall software sector. The top catalyst in the first category on my list is the updates the companies provided for its 4 th fiscal quarter of 2025. The company released the FQ4 earnings report (ER) on Feb 2, with results beating estimates on both lines and continuing double-digits YOY growth as shown in the next screenshot. Seeking Alpha However, the strong FQ4 results were met with a strong wave of selling in the overall software sector. To wit, the next chart illustrates the price performance of Palantir in comparison to the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF ( IGV ) since my last writing. As seen, both experienced a significant downward pullback of similar magnitudes (-23% for PLTR vs. -21% for IGV). Against this background, the goal of this follow-up coverage is to examine these changes more closely. And in the end, my conclusion is that A) the indiscriminate selling of PLTR together with the overall software sector is a mistake because B) it reflects the market is overlooking the ongoing defense supercycle, a cycle that PLTR is uniquely positioned in. Seeking Alpha PLTR stock: the market underestimated the DOD Supercycle I made that same mistake in early 2025 and missed the phase of PLTR’s most fantastic share price rallies.
