LD/iStock via Getty Images By Kevin Flanagan This will be the third and final installment of my discussion regarding the potential for a Federal Reserve that will be led by current nominee, Kevin Warsh. As I’ve discussed in my prior two blogs and podcasts, the potential hallmark of any Warsh-led Fed could be the reduction of the Fed’s ‘footprint’ . Last week we addressed the balance sheet part of the equation , but for this edition, I’d like to weigh in on the other aspect of a reduced footprint, forward guidance. Forms of Forward Guidance Forward guidance comes from a variety of avenues. Below are some of the current forms: ‘Fed-speak’, or Fed officials’ public appearances, such as Congressional testimonies and speeches The Semiannual Monetary Policy Report to Congress The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting policy statement The quarterly Summary of Economic Projections (SEP), which includes the ‘dot plot’ (Fed’s projections for the fed funds rate) The post-FOMC meeting Fed chair’s press conference A Brief History Lesson For the financial markets and investors, it has become commonplace for the Fed to be rather ‘open’ in their communication to the public. However, history shows these lines of communication are relatively new in the context of monetary policy history, and how in the past, the Fed was far from being an ‘open book’. In January 2000, the FOMC announced that it would issue a policy statement following each meeting regardless of whether there had been a change in monetary policy. Prior to 2007, the only ‘official’ communication from the Fed in which markets and investors could see policymakers’ economic projections came in 1979 from the Fed Chair’s Humphrey-Hawkins testimony/report. That is now known as the Semiannual Monetary Policy Report to Congress. In late 2007, the FOMC began expanding the content and frequency of its economic projections, ultimately leading to the aforementioned quarterly SEP. In 2011, quarterly (now eight) press conferen...

Alexey_Fedoren Wedbush said sentiment on NetApp ( NTAP ) is largely pessimistic heading into earnings based on margin concerns tied to higher memory pricing but noted that these concerns may be overdone. NetApp, which provides data storage services, is slated to report results for its third quarter of fiscal year 2026 post-market on Thursday. The firm kept its Neutral rating and $115 price target on NetApp's stock. "We also think investor negativity might be somewhat overdone given our view that: 1) NTAP was ahead of peers in sourcing NAND, putting the company in an initially favorable position vs. many of its competitors and 2) NTAP lifted pricing at the end of FQ3, a shift that we believe likely will offset a significant portion of margin pressure tied to higher component costs, while also creating a near term sales tailwind," said the analysts. Wedbush pointed out some positives for NetApp heading into the results. The analysts noted that their conversations indicate that NetApp started lifting its SSD/NAND requirements and pulling forward purchases in the second quarter of the calendar year 2025/first quarter of fiscal year 2026 timeframe, supporting management's prior commentary that the company is well positioned to work through supply side challenges through much of fiscal year 2026. The analysts believe NetApp's management always sets a relatively conservative bar with its guide (dictating consensus expectations). In addition, investors appear to be predominantly focused on the potential margin headwinds tied to higher memory costs without thinking about relative positioning or potential near-term offsets. Wedbush also highlighted some headwinds. The analysts said they believe NetApp is better prepared than many of its peers, but they see higher component costs as an intermediate-term headwind, with NTAP facing the same structural challenges as its competitors. In addition, the analysts noted that they have not encountered any input around significant NetApp...

Former Labour MP’s lawyers Mishcon de Reya issued short statement on his behalf that ended up saying an awful lot UK politics live – latest updates It didn’t take long for Peter Mandelson to go public. Only a few hours after he was pictured on Tuesday returning home after his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, he hit back. His lawyers issued a short statement that said an awful lot and attempted to pack a punch – several, actually. It showed that the veteran of multiple past political controversies intends to do what he has always done: work the problem. Peter Mandelson was arrested yesterday despite an agreement with the police that he would attend an interview next month on a voluntary basis. The arrest was prompted by a baseless suggestion that he was planning to leave the country and take up permanent residence abroad. There is absolutely no truth whatsoever in any such suggestion. We have asked the MPS for the evidence relied upon to justify the arrest. Peter Mandelson’s overriding priority is to cooperate with the police investigation, as he has done throughout this process, and to clear his name. Continue reading...
