From Big Gulp To Big Gasp: Massachusetts Governor Fights For High-Sugar Beverages Authored by Jonathan Turley, Much of politics today seems to be driven by the source of policies. If President Donald Trump or his administration is for it, Democrats are against it. Democrats have pulled 180-degree turns from past support for unilateral military operations by Democratic Presidents to opposing government shutdowns. However, one of the most intriguing has been the opposition to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has launched moves against unhealthy food additives and products. That was evident yesterday when Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey (D) virtually declared war over his effort to press Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks over high-sugar drinks. Dunkin’ Donuts is clearly an iconic brand, but the lack of support for Kennedy’s food policies is striking in light of the general support of Democrats for Big Gulp laws like the one in New York put forward by former mayor Michael Bloomberg (R). For the record, I have long opposed efforts to ban unhealthy foods. While I strongly support educational campaigns by the government about such unhealthy choices, I believe that it remains an individual choice on whether to engage in unhealthy habits, from smoking to high-fat foods. I also previously wrote how I believe the Big Gulp law was unlawful. It was later struck down . In this country and other countries, such as Great Britain , similar measures targeting unhealthy foods have been rallying points for the left. Yet, Kennedy received pushback after announcing that “We’re going to ask Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks, ‘Show us the safety data that show that it’s OK for a teenage girl to drink an iced coffee with 115 grams of sugar in it.’ I don’t think they’re going to be able to do it.” Healey responded with a taunt, “Come and take it,” sharing an image of a flag resembling the 1835 “ Come and Take It ” flag first used at the start of the Texas Revolution...

China has refrained from setting ambitious goals for solar energy in its latest five-year plan , highlighting the sector’s mounting challenges after years of explosive growth. The plan released Thursday at the annual National People’s Congress stopped short of giving a target for solar installations by 2030, in contrast to the goal of doubling offshore wind power capacity over the period and targets for nuclear and pumped hydro. Solar’s mentions in the plan were also few and far between. Instead, the government placed greater emphasis on other initiatives that support the energy transition, such as zero-carbon industrial parks. The downplaying of solar’s role follows a record-breaking expansion. China’s solar power generation overtook wind for the first time last year, driven by a boom in cheap panels that has made it a highly competitive power source. But the rapid increase in solar’s share of the electricity mix is straining the grid, forcing more curtailments and hurting returns for developers. China is now confronting a different set of challenges to the power network and the wider industrial economy. “As renewables reach higher shares in the power mix, the focus naturally shifts toward system integration,” said Muyi Yang, a senior energy analyst at think tank Ember. That redirects attention to grid expansion and flexibility, energy storage, and other means of balancing variable power generation, like pumped hydro, he said. Expanding clean power in the broader industrial economy also requires a much bigger structural change to systems and processes that have historically been designed around fossil fuels. “That’s where you start to see more explicit policy attention and new initiatives emerging like the zero-carbon industrial park initiative,” said Yang. Key Data Points: Polysilicon prices in China fell by between 6.2% and 12.9% in the week through Wednesday, as demand remained low after the lunar holiday and inventory stayed high, according to a weekly note fro...

Ebene, Mauritius, March 6, 2026 - While the trading community has often been seen as a "gentlemen’s club," this International Women’s Day, PU Prime is proud to spotlight a story that inspires: Joyce, a mother and a trader, sharing her journey of resilience and financial empowerment. For many, the motivation to enter the financial markets is purely profit-driven. But this does not apply to Joyce. She grew up in a household where her mother, a teacher, needed to do side hustle just to afford rice. In this video , Joyce opens up about her journey as a mother and a trader navigating today’s challenging markets. From learning the value of a dollar as a child to becoming a successful trader, she believes that anyone, regardless of gender, can achieve their dreams and hopes to inspire women and girls worldwide to embrace their potential. The transition into trading was not without its trials. After an initial period of significant success, the market provided a harsh reality check. "I think the market humbled me," she says, reflecting on an early loss that included funds meant for rent and tuition. However, where others might have walked away, Joyce chose to double down on education . "Joyce’s journey is a reminder that the financial markets are a landscape of opportunity for anyone with the resilience to learn," said Ms. Phakkaporn Pirachat, Country Manager for PU Prime Thailand. "At PU Prime, we see more women taking charge of their financial futures. Our goal is to ensure they aren't just 'trading,' but are equipped with education and tools to navigate the markets with confidence," she added. Joyce’s journey reflects a broader shift in the global economy. As more women and girls pursue the flexibility and independence offered by the financial markets, the demand for accessible tools and educational resources has never been greater. PU Prime believes the future of finance is inclusive. By offering a platform that combines professional-grade tools with educational support...

The Hong Kong Journalists Association has lost its judicial challenge against the government’s decision to deny reporters instant access to its vehicle registry, despite a ruling by the city’s top court that journalism is a valid reason for use. The High Court on Friday ruled against the press union over the policy introduced in early 2024, following the Court of Final Appeal’s decision that a freelance producer was entitled to access Transport Department records while making a documentary critical of police action during the 2019 anti-government protests. Mr Justice Russell Coleman acknowledged that the case was of public importance and had a significant impact on the use of vehicle particulars for bona fide investigative journalism. Advertisement He found, however, that the policy was not unlawful and that authorities’ handling of media applications was not so unreasonable as to amount to a public law error. In June 2023, the city’s top court cleared veteran journalist Bao Choy Yuk-ling of making false statements in connection with her use of the vehicle registration database. Advertisement She had selected “other traffic and transport-related matters” as the purpose of her searches, as journalism was not among the options listed on the online application form. She was fined HK$6,000 (US$767) in April 2021, after a trial.
