US transportation stocks closed at a record level Tuesday capping off a rebound fueled by prospects of strong economic growth this year. The Dow Jones Transportation Average rose 1.7% to close at 18,033.58 points — above a previous record set in November 2024 — after falling short of a new high a day earlier. Uber Technologies Inc. and trucker Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. were among the top performers. The gauge slumped last year as President Donald Trump ’s trade war rippled through markets and a downturn in the trucking sector dragged on, while flight chaos due to the longest government shutdown in history added to pain for airlines. The rebound came amid broad outperformance in stocks closely linked to the health of the US economy. “The transports have had a couple of major headwinds over the past 12 months that kept investors cautious — notably the trade war, tariffs and the government shutdown,” said Michael O’Rourke , chief market strategist at Jonestrading. “The group is catching up to the market and the economy.” Transport stocks added to a 1.2% advance on Monday, when airline and logistics shares gained on expectations that US intervention in oil-rich Venezuela will lead to lower fuel prices. Tuesday’s march to a record came amid strength across the US equity market, with the S&P 500 Index notching its own fresh high.

This stock offers investors both a growing dividend and a compelling valuation. For investors looking for a steadily growing dividend with meaningful long-term growth potential, Pool Corporation (POOL +1.32%) is a great option. Sure, it is a cyclical company -- and the cycle it faces now may not be exciting for investors. But it generates recurring sales from Pool maintenance products (something needed in any market environment); and its strong cash flow has historically supported both dividend growth and share repurchases, even through periods of softer sales growth. And eventually this cyclical company will likely go through a period in which sales growth picks back up significantly. Further, Pool Corp. has a low payout ratio, leaving plenty of room for dividend growth over the long haul. And more recently, there are signs that business trends are finally improving after a prolonged lull. Improving business trends In a slow-moving housing market with high interest rates, pool sales haven't fared well. Intuitively, this makes sense. Pool construction and remodels are often financed purchases. Additionally, lower turnover of home sales means fewer consumers are considering the types of projects often associated with moving into a new home, such as pool construction and pool remodeling. To show you a glimpse of the pressure Pool Corp.'s business has faced, just look at its full-year 2024 results. Sales in the period declined 4% year over year to about $5.3 billion. But trends are improving at Pool Corp. After reporting a 4% year-over-year decline in revenue for the first quarter of 2025, net sales returned to growth in Q2. Sales for the period rose 1% year over year. And this pattern continued in Pool Corp.'s most recent quarter when third-quarter sales rose 1% year-over-year to about $1.5 billion. Further, Pool Corp.'s earnings per share also returned to growth for the last two quarters, rising 4% year over year for both periods. While management noted in Pool Corp....

watch now VIDEO 2:36 02:36 Clean Start: Brewing beer with recycled water Power Lunch A startup in the clean water space is making a curious bet on beer. Curious, because the beer is made from recycled shower and laundry water. San Francisco-based Epic Cleantec launched in 2015 as a wastewater recycling company using its proprietary technology to clean and re-use water in office and apartment buildings. At the time, CEO Aaron Tartakovsky said, "We need to overhaul our flush and forget society." Now, he's taking it to the next level. "A lot of it was psychology," he said. "It is getting people comfortable with the concept of recycled water. And we found that if you tell people that the water is clean, maybe they trust you, maybe they don't. But you take those exact same molecules of recycled water, put them into a beautiful beer can, all of a sudden, people love it." For the beer, Epic's systems collect water just from showers and laundries and then run it through several treatment steps, including filters, biological treatment, membrane filtration, granular activated carbon, reverse osmosis, and disinfection, according to the company. The resulting clean water is then taken to Devil's Canyon Brewing Company, where it's made into beer. The beers are available for online orders in California, Virginia, Oregon, Ohio, Kentucky, Vermont, New Hampshire, Nebraska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Alaska, and Washington, D.C., and retail locations in California. It takes about ten gallons of water to make one gallon of beer, so using recycled water has a huge impact on the water supply. Epic's IPA is also made with drought-resistant and energy-efficient hops, grain, and yeast — emphasizing environmental impact from grain to glass. But, again, it's not about the beer. "Buildings use about 15% of all the fresh water on this planet," Tartakovsky said. "We need to do things differently, and that means we need to tell the story differently. We need to engage people differently." Jorda...

AMD Refreshes Ryzen AI Chips, Goes After Nvidia’s DGX Spark In addition to announcing Ryzen AI 400 chips that AMD says can outperform Intel’s latest for laptops and small form factor PCs, the company says its beefier Ryzen AI Max processors can best the chip inside Nvidia’s DGX Spark mini PC when it comes to performance per dollar. AMD used CES 2026 to announce a new line-up of Ryzen AI processors to go up against Intel’s latest in thin-and-light laptops—and show how it’s fighting Nvidia in a new arena. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based chip designer revealed that its Ryzen AI 400 series will push the maximum CPU frequency to 5.2GHz and NPU performance to 60 trillion operations per second (TOPS) for laptops compatible with Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC program. In contrast, the Ryzen AI 300 chips maxed out at 5.1GHz and 55 TOPS, respectively. [Related: Qualcomm: Snapdragon X2 Plus PC Chips Bring Big Speed Boosts For ‘Modern Professionals’] The company also teased that it plans to release socketed Ryzen AI 400 models for desktop PCs, which would mark a first for AMD’s AI PC chip brand. The Ryzen AI 400 processors are expected to debut in laptops and other small form factor devices from Dell Technologies, HP Inc., Lenovo and other OEMs by March. AMD is pitching the new wave of Ryzen AI chips for those who want devices with the best CPU, GPU and NPU performance in combination with multi-day battery life and “leading AI performance and experiences.” The Ryzen AI 400 processors also boost graphics frequency to as much as 3.1 GHz and memory speed to a maximum 8,533 megatransfers per second (MT/s), up from the 2.9 GHz graphics frequency and 8,000 MT/s memory speed of the previous generation. The specs that aren’t changing from the Ryzen AI 300 series are the maximum 16 cores and 32 threads based on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture as well as the maximum 16 GPU cores based on the RDNA 3.5 architecture. Compared to Intel’s 30-watt, 8-Core Ultra 9 288V, AMD claimed that its 28-watt, 16-core Ry...

As 2026 begins, investor optimism toward quantum computing is reaching a new high, fueled by tangible technological progress and solid stock performance in 2025. Quantum pure-play stock D-Wave Quantum QBTS emerged as the standout, with its share price gaining 211% during the year, driven by growing interest in quantum annealing systems and government-linked deployments. Rigetti Computing RGTI also delivered a 45% gain, reflecting cautious investor confidence as the company advanced its gate-based roadmap despite ongoing execution risk. Notably, while the broader equity market remained fixated on artificial intelligence and its bellwether, NVIDIA NVDA, which gained 38.8% in 2025, both QBTS and RGTI outperformed the AI leader during this period. This relative outperformance highlights a growing willingness among investors to selectively price in real-world quantum progress rather than treat the sector purely as a long-dated option. 2025 Stock Comparison Image Source: Zacks Investment Research The key question heading into 2026 is whether this momentum can be sustained as quantum computing transitions from proof-of-concept milestones to scalable commercial deployment. Let’s find out. How 2026 Will Shape Up for the Broader Quantum Space? According to recent research by Global Growth Insights, the global quantum computing market is projected to expand from around $0.8 billion in 2025 to approximately $1.08 billion in 2026, implying a robust CAGR of about 35% over the next decade as enterprises increasingly adopt cloud-accessible quantum systems and hybrid quantum-classical workflows across finance, pharmaceuticals and industrial optimization. This trajectory is further strengthened by separate forecasts that suggest that the broader quantum computing market could witness a CAGR approaching 41.8% through 2030, driven by rising hardware deployments, expanding software ecosystems and intensifying public-private investment initiatives (Markets and Markets report). UK and France to send troops to Ukraine if peace deal agreed Russia has repeatedly warned that any foreign troops in Ukraine would be a "legitimate target", but has not yet commented on the announcement. The agreement also proposed that the US would take the lead in monitoring a ceasefire. After talks with Ukraine's allies in Paris, he said the UK and France would "establish military hubs across Ukraine and build protected facilities for weapons and military equipment" to deter future invasion. The UK and France have signed a declaration of intent on deploying troops in Ukraine if a peace deal is made with Russia, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has said. Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and Moscow currently controls about 20% of Ukrainian territory. Zelensky says peace deal is 90% ready in New Year address Heads of state and top officials from the "Coalition of the Willing" took part in Tuesday's talks in the French capital. Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting, Starmer said: "We signed a declaration of intent on the deployment of forces to Ukraine in the event of a peace deal. "This is a vital part of our commitment to stand with Ukraine for the long-term. "It paves the way for the legal framework under which British, French, and partner forces could operate on Ukrainian soil, securing Ukraine's skies and seas, and regenerating Ukraine's armed forces for the future," The UK prime minister added London would participate in any US-led verification of a potential ceasefire. Top US negotiator Steve Witkoff said "durable security guarantees and robust prosperity commitments are essential to a lasting peace" in Ukraine - referring to a key demand made by Kyiv. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron said Ukraine's allies had made "considerable progress" at the talks. He said "robust" security guarantees for Kyiv had been agreed in the event of a potential ceasefire. Jared Kushner, US Pr...

US stocks rose to fresh records on Tuesday as investors continued to weigh US moves on Venezuela and braced for a flurry of fresh data this week to shed light on the health of the economy. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) added 0.6%, closing at a record high, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) also rose 0.6%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) climbed 1% to close above 49,000 for the first time as the blue-chip index notched a back-to-back record. Investors assessed Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD's (AMD) competing AI roadmaps, laid out at CES in Las Vegas. CEO Jensen Huang launched Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin AI superchip platform, followed by AMD CEO Lisa Su's first look at its rival Helios system. Eyes were also on new PC chips from Intel (INTC) and Qualcomm (QCOM), with updates from other tech stalwarts expected as the marquee tech event continues this week. Notable gainers in the tech space on Tuesday included Amazon (AMZN), Micron (MU), and Broadcom (AVGO). Meanwhile, the focus is starting to turn to a flurry of jobs market and other data this week, as the flow of economic reports gets back on track. On Tuesday, the final reading of S&P Global's Services PMI for the month of December showed the US services sector growing at its slowest pace in eight months. The shutdown-induced dearth of data in recent months has made it trickier to gauge how the Federal Reserve will move on interest rates this year. Chair Jerome Powell has signaled policymakers will tread carefully until the picture of the labor market is clearer. That has made the December jobs report due Friday even more crucial than usual. In commodities, copper (HG=F) continued to surge after breaking above $13,000 a ton for the first time, hitting a fresh record as worries about potential Trump tariffs spur stockpiles in the US, leaving the rest of the world short. Self-driving car systems company Mobileye Global Inc. is acquiring Israeli startup Mentee Robotics in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $900 million, as it looks to develop humanoid robots. The deal comprises $612 million in cash and as many as 26,229,714 shares of Mobileye Class A common stock, according to the company. It is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026. The acquisition is notable for its size and founder overlap between the two companies. Both were co-founded by Israeli computer scientist Amnon Shashua , currently chief executive officer of Mobileye and chairman of Mentee. Another Mentee co-founder, Shai Shalev-Schwartz, is chief technology officer at Mobileye. Shashua recused himself from the decision, which was approved by Mobileye’s board and its biggest shareholder Intel Corp. , Mobileye said. The acquisition comes after Mobileye struck a deal with an unnamed US automaker to install its safety software in 9 million vehicles. Shares were up 2.5% at close of trading on Monday. Mentee, formed in 2022, has raised $50 million to date at an undisclosed valuation. Carmakers are increasingly experimenting with making general-purpose humanoid robots. That includes Tesla Inc .’s Optimus and Hyundai Motor Company ’s acquisition of robot company Boston Dynamics , as well as a major push into the sector by Chinese automotive companies. Still, the technology has limitations. Humanoid robots have a tendency to malfunction, cost a lot to make and have limited battery and weight capacity. Robots are a growth area for Mobileye, Shashua said in an interview with Bloomberg News. “There are a lot of synergies and it makes sense to put them under the same roof,” he said. Mentee’s technology is still in development, and the startup has been in discussions with customers on proofs of concept. But one area where humanoid robots may be useful is in assembling cars, a growing market that is expected to reach $5 billion in 2035, according to a report by Bloomberg Intelli...

Bridget Bennett | Bloomberg | Getty Images Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on Tuesday said that the company is seeing "very high" customer demand in China for its H200 AI chips, which the U.S. government recently signaled that it would approve for export. Huang added that Nvidia has started producing the chips again and is working out the final details about export licenses with the U.S. government. Nvidia's chips are critical for companies developing artificial intelligence models. " We've fired up our supply chain and H200s are flowing through the line," Huang said at a press conference at the CES conference in Las Vegas. Investors see the Chinese market as a massive market opportunity for Nvidia as the country's tech companies develop their own AI models. Huang has previously said that the market could be worth $50 billion per year, and none of those sales are currently included in Nvidia's forecasts. In December, President Donald Trump said that Nvidia could export its H200 chip to China as long as the company paid 25% of those sales to the U.S. government. The H200 is a generation or two behind the latest Nvidia models, but unlike previous chips that Nvidia was approved to export to China, this model has not been slowed-down on purpose to comply with export restrictions. China must also approve the import of Nvidia's chips. Huang on Tuesday said that he is not expecting China to make an announcement that imports have been approved, and that Nvidia would know the regulatory status as purchase orders come in. "We're not expecting any press releases, or any large declarations," Huang said. "It's just going to be purchase orders." Huang added that any H200 sales would be in addition to the $500 billion two-year forecast the company provided last year. "It appears that we're going to be going back to China," Huang said. WA...
