Key Points Pivoting to higher-margin healthcare and small and medium-sized business deliveries should improve profitability. UPS' technology investments will improve productivity over the long term. There's near-term risk around its earnings, and UPS may need to increase debt to pay its dividend. 10 stocks we like better than United Parcel Service › The two package delivery giants continue to compete intensively in the marketplace. Still, there's only one winner in terms of stock price performance over recent years, with FedEx (NYSE: FDX) stock outpacing UPS (NYSE: UPS) stock. However, I think UPS is a better long-term buy, but with one important caveat. UPS growth strategy The company's growth strategy makes sense. Under CEO Carol Tomé, UPS has accelerated its transition toward more targeted end markets and deliveries rather than chasing delivery volume. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » This strategy entails aiming to voluntarily reduce low- or negative-margin Amazon deliveries by 50% from the start of 2025 to the middle of 2026. For reference, FedEx is filling in some of the void left by UPS and resuming delivery for Amazon after previously ending the service in 2019. It also involves targeted growth in end markets like small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), healthcare, and business-to-business e-commerce. At the same time, its investments in technology (automation, smart facilities, etc.) will increase productivity and allow it to rationalize facilities. Instead of making low- and negative-margin deliveries to costly and hard-to-find residential addresses, UPS is pivoting toward higher-priced, higher-margin deliveries for small businesses and healthcare companies. Moreover, this pivot is enabling substantial cost reductions and job reductions. The caveat These changes make perfect sense. However, the reality is that UPS is a company that has missed its initial...

The company is a powerhouse in its sector, and has weathered numerous challenges recently. This is the time of year when market professionals and investors alike pore over lists of top analyst stock picks. One big company that appeared in such a lineup was UnitedHealth (UNH +2.03%), and in the process, its shares received a price target boost. That helped lift the stock by 2% on Tuesday. A healthy adjustment The UnitedHealth bull in this case is Bernstein SocGen's Lance Wilkes. Tuesday morning before market open, he raised his fair value assessment of the company to $444 per share, up slightly from his preceding $440. In doing so, he maintained his outperform (read: buy) recommendation on the health insurer. He also flagged it as a top pick for 2026. According to reports, Wilkes is counting on UnitedHealth to continue its recovery this year and follow this up with improvements over the next few years at least. He believes it will be able to slightly surpass its trailing 10% annual revenue growth with a 12% improvement in 2026. Generally speaking, the analyst feels that Medicaid-focused insurers, such as UnitedHealth, will be good plays in the coming months, although with more potential upside in the second half of the year. Expand NYSE : UNH UnitedHealth Group Today's Change ( 2.03 %) $ 6.95 Current Price $ 348.97 Key Data Points Market Cap $310B Day's Range $ 345.12 - $ 352.61 52wk Range $ 234.60 - $ 606.36 Volume 9.4M Avg Vol 7.5M Dividend Yield 2.55 % Solvable problems Despite its struggles over the past year or so, UnitedHealth remains a powerhouse in the health insurance space. I also think that the expiration of Obamacare subsidies won't stick, as it's politically damaging to lawmakers, and their restoration (at least to some extent) will make the company's stock that much more attractive. It's a solid investment in its sector.

Brendan McDermid | Reuters Greg Abel, the newly minted Chief Executive of Berkshire Hathaway , is getting a bump in salary as he takes over from the legendary investor Warren Buffett. Abel, who began his new role at the conglomerate on Jan. 1, will see his annual cash salary rise to $25 million, according to a Tuesday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The raise took effect on the same date. Buffett has championed Abel in his new position. The investor told CNBC's Becky Quick in May that he would rather have Abel handle his money "than any of the top investment advisers or any of the top CEOs in the United States." "It is a huge endorsement, but it's an endorsement we've made," Buffett told Quick. Prior to taking the helm at Berkshire, Abel was vice chairman of the company's non-insurance operations. In that post, he earned a salary of $21 million back in 2024, along with "other compensation" of $17,250, according to a 2025 regulatory filing . Buffett, who was leading Berkshire at the time, had an annual salary of $100,000, plus $305,111 in "other compensation" in 2024.

So is the company -- it's granted them significant stock awards. 10 stocks we like better than Camping World › The weather might be prohibitively cold and miserable, but it's awfully warm where Camping World (NYSE: CWH) stock has pitched its tent. Investors were cheered by the specialty retailer's awarding of large piles of stock to two of its new leaders. With the morale boost this provided, Camping World's shares rose by nearly 13% across the day. Skin in the game With the turn of the year came new leadership at the top of Camping World. High-profile co-founder Marcus Lemonis recently stepped down from his roles as CEO and chairman of the board, and on Jan. 1, he was officially replaced by Matthew Wagner in the former position and by Brent Moody in the latter. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » As is standard for both roles in publicly traded companies, the two men have been granted Camping World equity in the form of restricted stock units (RSUs), as per their current employment agreements. Regulatory filings submitted after market close Monday reveal that Wagner received 465,000 class A shares of the company's stock, while Moody was handed 59,518. The transition was announced in early December. Although Lemonis is retiring, he has pledged to stay on as an advisor to the company. Wagner, Camping World's former COO, has been with the company since 2007. Moody joined Camping World in 2002 and has served in a variety of managerial roles, including president and chief operating and legal officer. Veterans rewarded There's a reason equity awards are popular -- when done right, they provide compelling incentive for an incoming executive or board member to act in the very best interests of a company and its investors. If I were a Camping World shareholder, I'd be satisfied with these and confide...

The semiconductor bellwether's stock recently got a massive upgrade, pointing toward better times ahead. The past year was rewarding for ASML (ASML +1.26%) investors as shares of the semiconductor equipment supplier shot up 73%. Investors have been buying the Dutch giant's stock hand over fist of late as its order book swelled to meet the fast-growing demand for its advanced chipmaking equipment that's used for making artificial intelligence (AI) chips. Investors may now be wondering if it is a good idea to buy ASML stock in the new year following its recent surge. A closer look at recent market developments suggests that ASML could sustain its momentum in 2026, with the company's upcoming results for the fourth quarter of 2025 on Jan. 28 acting as a catalyst for the stock. Let's look at the reasons why that's likely to be the case. Higher AI chip spending will be a tailwind for ASML The new year started on a terrific note for ASML investors when the stock received a massive upgrade from investment advisory firm Aletheia Capital. The firm raised its rating on ASML from sell to buy. Even better, it doubled its price target from $750 to $1,500. This huge upgrade by a firm that had been skeptical about ASML's prospects earlier sent the stock up by almost 9% on the first trading day of 2026. Aletheia Capital points out that the surge in capital spending by foundries like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM +1.61%) will be a catalyst for ASML. It is easy to see why the investment firm makes this claim. Advertisement ASML is the leading manufacturer of lithography machines that are used for printing advanced chips. It reportedly controls more than 90% of the deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography market, while it has a near-monopoly in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography. These machines are necessary for producing advanced chips that are utilized in various AI-related applications, spanning data centers, computers, and smartphones. The demand for these advanced chips, w...
