Two people were killed and several injured in a shooting outside a church in Salt Lake City, Utah police said on Wednesday. The shooting took place in the parking lot of a meetinghouse of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, widely known as the Mormon church. Among at least eight adult victims, two died of their injuries, the police said, while three of the survivors were critical. The medical condition of the other victims was not known. Dozens of people were attending a funeral inside at the time. All the victims were adults. Police said they do not believe the shooter had any animus toward a particular faith. “We don’t believe this was a targeted attack against a religion or anything like that,” the Salt Lake City police chief, Brian Redd, said. Police also do not believe the shooting was random. Authorities said no suspect was in custody. About 100 law enforcement vehicles attended the scene, and helicopters flew overhead. “This should never have happened outside a place of worship. This should never have happened outside a celebration of life,” the mayor, Erin Mendenhall, said. The church was cooperating with law enforcement and was grateful for efforts first responders’ efforts, a spokesperson said. “We extend prayers for all who have been impacted by this tragedy and express deep concern that any sacred space intended for worship should be subjected to violence of any kind,” Sam Penrod said in a statement. The church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, and about half of Utah’s 3.5 million residents are members of the faith. Churches like the one where the shooting occurred can be found in towns throughout the city and state. The faith has been on heightened alert since four people were killed when a former Marine opened fire in a Michigan church last month and set it ablaze. The FBI found that he was motivated by “anti-religious beliefs” against the church. With Reuters and Associated Press

Investors have a rare opportunity to buy one of America's highest-quality stocks at a steep discount. Netflix (NFLX +0.02%) operates the world's largest streaming platform for movies and television shows, with over 300 million paying members. The company is using its immense scale and soaring profits to outspend its competition when it comes to creating and licensing content, further cementing its dominance. Despite Netflix's continued success, its stock has declined by 32% from its mid-2025 peak. However, it's still up 84,837% since its initial public offering (IPO) in 2002, so history would suggest the recent dip could be a mere bump in the road ahead of further gains in the future. Netflix will certainly face challenges along the way, but opportunities to invest in this stock at such a steep discount don't come around very often. Is it time to buy? Netflix recently announced a significant acquisition Netflix is constantly innovating to attract subscribers, which involves designing new pricing structures that appeal to people of all income levels. In 2022, the company launched a subscription tier supplemented by advertising for a price of just $7.99 per month, making it far cheaper than the Standard ($17.99 per month) and Premium ($24.99 per month) tiers. The ad tier often accounts for around half of all new signups in countries where it's available, so it's been a raging success. Plus, while the value of each Standard and Premium member is relatively static, the value of an ad-tier member increases over time because Netflix can charge businesses a higher amount for advertising slots as this member base grows. Advertisement Therefore, offering high-quality content not only attracts new members, but also increases the amount of money Netflix can charge businesses to run ads. Live sports, for example, command a premium, which is why the company is investing heavily to license everything from boxing to the National Football League. Expand NASDAQ : NFLX Netflix Today'...

A smart scale promoted a healthier lifestyle by scanning your feet to track your heart health, and an egg-shaped hormone tracker uses artificial intelligence to help you figure out the best time to conceive. Technology and health experts, however, question the accuracy of products like these and warn of data privacy issues – especially as the US federal government eases up on regulation The US Food and Drug Administration announced during the annual show in Las Vegas that it will relax regulations on “low-risk” general wellness products such as heart monitors and wheelchairs. He said they are good at analysing medical imaging and can help streamline doctors’ busy schedules, but they can also promote biases and “hallucinate”, providing incorrect information stated as fact.
