"While we have expressed opposition, the reality is that we cannot fully push through our position." There are around 28,500 U.S. military personnel stationed in South Korea, along with several missile defense systems like the Lockheed Martin ( LMT )-manufactured Patriot missile interceptors. Some missile batteries, which were shipped out of Osan Air Base, may be redeployed to U.S. bases in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, South Korean media reported. But authorities have not confirmed these reports. Foreign Minister Cho Hyun last week said the U.S. was in talks with Seoul over possibly redeploying Patriot systems based in South Korea for use in the Iran war.
