I first purchased shares of Plug Power (NASDAQ: PLUG) nearly four years ago, back in the spring of 2022. Plug Power seemed to have a lot of potential, and the company's $14-per-share price felt quite reasonable for a long-term investor at the time. As of market close on March 9, Plug Power is barely hovering above $2. My position in Plug Power is down an excruciating 76%. I've always had a healthy risk appetite when it comes to high-risk green energy investments. I'm a believer and optimist that one day our world will run on clean forms of energy only. Also, like many before me, some good investments leading up to my purchase of Plug Power gave me an inflated sense of confidence and hubris that led to overlooking a few red flags. Plug Power had an exciting narrative a few years ago. Government support, coupled with hype around green hydrogen , made the company look like the stock of the future. In an interview with CNBC, Sigel explained that Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) is experiencing typical four-year cycle trading range activity, with the correlation between Bitcoin and the Nasdaq ( COMP:IND ) now at a five-year high. The ongoing Iran war and potential disruptions to oil markets through the Strait of Hormuz pose direct risks to Bitcoin’s price trajectory. “Oil shocks tend to threaten global liquidity. And when global liquidity tightens, that’s been bad for Bitcoin,” Sigel said. He noted that while there has been a pickup in crypto transfers out of Iran since the war began, with some Middle Eastern participants buying Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) as part of a de-dollarization trend, the direction of the conflict will ultimately determine global liquidity conditions. Long-term Bitcoin holders, often referred to as “whales,” have recently slowed their selling activity, providing more stability to the market. There have been few better stocks to own since 2023 than Palantir (PLTR 0.15%). The stock is up by more than 2,200% since then, although it's now down by more than 25% from the all-time high it touched in October. But it has rallied in recent weeks from the 40% it was down. With that rally in focus, investors may be wondering: Is Palantir primed to soar again, or is it just following the broader market's movements? Palantir has put up incredible growth figures Palantir's software platform uses artificial intelligence (AI) to process large volumes of data quickly and give people with decision-making authority the best guidance possible in real time. Originally, this platform was used for government purposes only, such as supporting intelligence gathering and military operations. While this is still a large use case for Palantir's products, the company has also expanded into the commercial sector, where it has achieved significant adoption, particularly in the U.S. Palantir is delivering impressive growth -- its revenue rose 70% year over year during its fiscal fourth quarter to $1.4 billion. Commercial revenue grew at an 82% pace versus government revenue growth of 60%, but both numbers are so impressive that it's hard to find fault in either of them. Data by YCharts The combination of three key factors, such as (1) the explosive increase in the intensity of memory use in AI systems; (2) the structural shortage of HBM (high-bandwidth memory); and (3) the historic leap in the CapEx of hyperscalers, in my view, suggests that the current cycle may be developing quite differently from previous cycles. If these factors are confirmed in the upcoming earnings print, I see it as quite possible that Micron's earnings power is still merely in the early stages of this cycle, and not necessarily close to a peak, as many investors seem to assume today, as reflected by the market's perception of a very low earnings multiple and a very high revenue multiple. Why Memory Cycles Always Look Cheap At The Peak The main point of discussion about Micron's thesis today and its current valuation is that it is based on the existence of a kind of “market adage” in equity research: "Cyclicals look cheapest at the top and most expensive at the bottom." Stating the obvious for many, the P/E uses the profit of the last twelve months (TTM) and the forward P/E or expected profit in the short term. The problem is that in cyclical companies, the tendency is for profits to rise sharply at the top of the cycle and profits to fall sharply at the bottom of the cycle—and that's why the denominator tends to change slowly. Investing.com -- Meta on Wednesday announced four custom, in-house chips designed for artificial intelligence tasks as part of the company's data center expansion plans. The specialized silicon is part of the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator, or MTIA, family of chips, which the company first revealed publicly in 2023 before releasing a second-generation version in 2024. Meta said it is developing and deploying four new generations of MTIA chips within the next two years to support ranking and recommendations, along with generative AI workloads. The company stated this represents a much faster pace than typical chip cycles. Meta Vice President of Engineering Yee Jiun Song told CNBC that by designing custom chips, which are then manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor, the social media company can squeeze more price per performance across its data center fleet rather than relying only on vendors. "This also provides us with, with more diversity in terms of silicon supply, and insulates us from price changes to some extent," Song said. "This is a little bit more leverage." The first new chip, MTIA 300, was deployed a few weeks ago and is intended to help train smaller AI models that underpin Meta's core ranking and recommendation tasks, Song said. These tasks include showing people relevant content and online ads within the company's family of apps like Facebook and Instagram. The upcoming chips are intended for more cutting-edge generative AI-related inference tasks like creating images and videos based on people's written prompts. It is covered by only one Wall Street analyst, and it has never been the focus of an article on Seeking Alpha. With a market cap of just $159.4 million, it is easy to overlook even though the stock is included in the Russell 2000 index . The company operates in the DC Metropolitan area, which has a median household income well above the national average , according to the St. Louis Fed. The mean home listing price in the service area for MainStreet Bank is over twice the current national average, according to Zillow . In theory, this should be a place where a small community bank like MainStreet should thrive and a place where more small-cap bank investors would want to pay closer attention. MNSB Q4 2025 Earnings Presentation Unfortunately, things have not been going as smoothly for the company as its stock price is trading just 4.8% higher than it did five years ago. MNSB reported a loss in FY 2024 and has struggled to limit its exposure to commercial real estate, a problem that is not uncommon to other small community banks around the US. In spite of some improvements made by the company in FY 2025, I believe its stock is just a hold at the current time, for the reasons discussed below. Company Overview Based in Fairfax, Virginia, MainStreet Bancshares is the holding company for MainStreet Bank, which describes itself as a “ business-focused ” community bank. MNSB uses what it refers to as a “branch-lite” model, only operating a total of seven branch locations, including a location in Middleburg, VA, that just opened last month. Sundry Photography/iStock Editorial via Getty Images MedTech firm Stryker ( SYK ) is facing a worldwide system outage allegedly due to a cyberattack carried out by an Iran-linked hacking group, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Stryker's ( SYK ) staff and contractors are reporting that the company’s login pages showed the logo of the suspected Iran-linked group as part of the outage that began shortly after midnight on the East Coast. Meanwhile, remote devices such as laptops and mobile phones on Microsoft’s ( MSFT ) Windows operating system that have been configured to link with Stryker’s ( SYK ) systems have been wiped. According to an email sent by the company, SYK has advised its employees to refrain from turning on company-issued devices and to disconnect them immediately from networks. “Stryker is currently experiencing a severe, global disruption across the Windows environment impacting both client devices and servers,” the notice read. "The issue is widespread and significantly affecting users’ ability to access systems and services.” The company stated in the notice that it has yet to determine the root cause of the outage, and it is actively engaged with Microsoft ( MSFT ). Stryker ( SYK ) didn’t immediately respond to a Journal's request for comment. According to people familiar with the matter and social media posts, the logo belongs to Handala. The pro-Palestinian hacking group has allegedly conducted attacks on several Israeli and other Gulf companies in recent weeks. But oil is far from the only product for which the world economy is heavily dependent on the shallow, narrow waterway which connects Persian Gulf ports with the rest of the world. From the metals market to agriculture and autos , a de facto closure of the strait would ripple through business sectors and both the U.S. and world economy. Aluminum is a good example. It is one of the biggest non-petroleum commerce casualties of the U.S.-Iran war. In 2025, the Middle East accounted for roughly 21% of unwrought aluminum imports and 13% of wrought aluminum imports — and those percentages have been rising. Unwrought aluminum is the raw, unprocessed metal in forms like ingots and billets, while wrought aluminum has been mechanically shaped into sheets, rods, or other finished forms used directly in manufacturing. "The Iran situation is having an impact, and as the conflict continues, industry concerns may grow," said Matt Meenan, spokesman for the Aluminum Association, a trade organization representing the U.S. aluminum industry. This grocery distributor has very low margins, so even incremental improvements could have a big impact on its earnings. So, right now UNFI is optimizing its distribution network and its supply chain. It’s buying back stock and paying off its debt. It’s also providing additional high-margin services to the grocery stores. And it’s distributing less conventional food because that has lower margins than health food. Investors who don’t understand what UNFI is doing might think that the company is shrinking. UNFI reported -2.6% revenue growth in its fiscal second quarter , and it missed analysts’ revenue estimates. But this is actually a positive sign. UNFI was able to exit from less profitable business segments faster than analysts expected. It’s more important to watch UNFI’s margins. The distributor’s gross margin rose from 13.1% to 13.2%. But its GAAP operating margin and its net income margin were flat. So, at least UNFI is breaking even now. UNFI’s management also thinks the company is undervalued right now, so they’re buying back stock. This company has a P/FCF ratio of 5 right now, so it has enough cash flow to pay off its debt and buy back stock at the same time. The cyberattack reduced the company’s revenue by around 5% in Q4 2025. Since this was a one-time event, UNFI will have an easy comparison coming up in Q4 2026, and the company will be likely to report stronger revenue growth that quarter. It might seem like this comparison should be priced in already, and maybe it is.
