Babcock International Group Plc Chief Executive Officer David Lockwood will retire by the end of 2026, the defense company said as it reported solid growth across its key divisions. Lockwood, who has been at the helm since 2020, will be replaced by Harry Holt, head of the nuclear unit. “The world is changing beyond recognition both in terms of alliances and in terms of how people think the increase in defense spending will be spent,” Lockwood, 64, said in an interview on Friday. The company’s shares dropped about 1% in morning trade. Babcock expects to meet targets in the financial year ending March 31, and said it could exceed expectations if it delivers frigate licenses for Indonesia’s navy and fishing fleets within the year. In November, Babcock was selected as the prime industrial partner for Indonesia’s £4 billion ($5.41 billion) program to boost its maritime capabilities. Strong growth in nuclear over the first half of the year continued into the fiscal third quarter, driven by submarine and clean energy projects, with solid performance in its aviation and marine divisions, the company said in a statement Friday. This offset weaker momentum in the rail segment. “I’m comfortable that I’ve got a year or two left in the tank but I felt the next phase needed someone who’s got four to eight years in the tank to see through all of these big choices,” Lockwood said.
