Brandon Bell/Getty Images News A powerful winter storm sweeping across the United States is beginning to interrupt operations for major oil, gas and industrial users along Texas’ Gulf Coast, with refineries, chemical facilities and manufacturers scaling back activity as temperatures plunge, Bloomberg news reported Sunday. Roughly 10% of U.S. natural gas production is estimated to be offline as freezing conditions interfere with wells, pipelines and processing facilities, placing the brunt of the disruption on gas markets. Goodyear Bayport ( GT ) shut down its chemical plant in Pasadena, Texas, on Saturday ahead of the cold snap, according to a notice posted Sunday on the Community Awareness Emergency Response website. Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) said it had taken some units offline at its Baytown refining complex due to freezing weather, while Celanese ( CE ) reported winding down operations at its Houston-area chemical facility as conditions deteriorated. The storm has also affected manufacturers outside the Gulf Coast. Texas Instruments said its utility curtailed natural gas deliveries to its Richardson, Texas, site in the Dallas area, according to a regulatory filing. U.S. natural gas output has fallen by roughly 10 billion cubic feet in recent days as extreme cold has frozen infrastructure and restricted supply. At the same time, demand for heating fuel has jumped by about 18 billion cubic feet, according to data from BloombergNEF. For oil markets, the slowdown in industrial activity adds a layer of uncertainty. Some traders had expected weather-related production disruptions to support crude prices, but reduced fuel consumption from shuttered facilities could offset that effect. Energy Transfer ( ET ) said one of its gas plants in the Permian Basin received off-specification gas heading into the weekend, a problem that worsened as temperatures dropped. Off-spec gas does not meet standard quality requirements and can complicate processing and transport. More on State St...

Tariffs may be able to protect domestic U.S. automakers only for so long. 10 stocks we like better than Ford Motor Company › If investors rewind to the middle of 2024, it came with a very stern warning from Bank of America analyst John Murphy, who urged General Motors (NYSE: GM) and Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) to consider leaving China. The reason was a blossoming list of subsidized Chinese automakers that were advancing quickly and undercutting the globe on price while leading in technology for electric vehicles (EVs). Today, that warning seems accurate, as China's automotive market is currently enveloped in a brutal price war, and foreign automakers are struggling. Worse news yet is that some recent data out of China suggests the competition is moving closer to the highly valuable U.S. market. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » What's going on? Videos and eyewitnesses refute federal account of Minneapolis shooting toggle caption Zaydee Sanchez for NPR Minnesota officials are pushing to ensure they can help investigate the shocking fatal shooting of 37-year-old intensive care nurse Alex Pretti . After a late night court filing a federal judge granted them a temporary restraining order , ruling that no Homeland Security officer can destroy or alter evidence related to the death Saturday morning. Federal investigators have refused to allow access to the scene, despite the state obtaining a search warrant for public areas. It's the second fatal shooting in Minneapolis by immigration agents this month, and once again Trump administration officials immediately defended the action as self-defense while blaming the victim – in this case claiming he was a "domestic terrorist" intending to "massacre" officers. Sponsor Message Multiple bystander videos and witness testimony contradict that. Pretti can be seen holding only a phone in his hand before at least six officers tackle him, pinning him face down on the ground and shooting him in the back, firing what sounds like ten shots. One eyewitness said in a court document that Pretti was not even facing agents when they grabbed him. "It didn't look like he was trying to resist, just trying to help [a] woman up," they wrote. Pretti was a U.S. citizen with no known criminal record. DHS says he was armed, and the city's police chief confirmed he had a lawful permit to carry. There has been no evidence that NPR has verified of Pretti brandishing his handgun at any time during the encounter with federal agents. One video appears to show an officer take away his gun just before another shoots him. toggle caption ZAYDEE SANCHEZ Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche stood by the agents in an interview on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday. Erik S. Lesser/Getty Images News Merck ( MRK ) has ended discussions about a potential acquisition of biotech firm Revolution Medicines, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday, citing people familiar with the situation. The pharmaceutical giant had been in talks to buy the cancer drug developer in a transaction that could have valued Revolution at roughly $30 billion. Those negotiations ultimately stalled after the two sides failed to bridge differences over valuation, the people said. While talks have broken off for now, the door isn't fully closed. Negotiations could resume at a later stage, or another bidder could step forward. Investor interest in Revolution remains elevated ahead of the expected release of key clinical trial results for its pancreatic and colorectal cancer drug candidates later this year. Earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal reported that AbbVie ( ABBV ) ( ABBV:CA ) had entered advanced discussions with Revolution and that the company was attracting attention from multiple potential suitors. AbbVie later said it wasn't in talks with the biotech firm. Before reports of takeover interest surfaced in January, Revolution carried a market capitalization of about $16 billion. Its shares rallied on deal speculation, lifting the company’s valuation to more than $22 billion by the end of last week. Merck ( MRK ) Chief Executive Robert Davis said at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference earlier this month that the company’s recent dealmaking focus has largely centered on transactions valued at $15 billion or less. He added that Merck remains open to larger acquisitions but emphasized a disciplined approach to capital deployment. Revolution Medicines is developing therapies that target RAS, a molecular driver implicated in a wide range of cancers. RAS has long been considered one of the most difficult targets in oncology, frustrating researchers for decades due to technical challenges in designing effective drugs. Mission to Space with Francis Bourgeois is a tricksy little beast. Unlike, it must be made quite clear, its presenter himself. Bourgeois, for those who have not had the absolute pleasure, is a 25-year-old engineering graduate who came to prominence on social media by making TikTok videos about his great passion: trains. The unforced joy on his face when a locomotive goes by (any locomotive, though his favourite classes are the 37 and 158 and his least favourite the 170), and his ease with his geekiness, quickly made him a star. His other love, we are told, is space. The animating feature of this overgenerously apportioned documentary (two parts of 45 minutes each) is the question: can a trainspotter become an astronaut? The answer, too obviously and from the very start of the film, is no. It becomes more and more likely that the makers were labouring under the delusion that to be a passionate geek is synonymous with being a savant. I mean, I get it. I’m an arts grad, too, and anyone who can look at an engine or a sum and make any kind of sense of it seems to me like a god as well. But as Bourgeois meets experts in various aspects of space exploration and we watch him fall flat on his face, sometimes literally, time and time again while he is put through some of the physical paces required of astronauts, the optimistic vibe begins to wear off. Bourgeois begins to look not like the enthusiastic amateur he is (a quality that should be protected at all costs and celebrated for its rarity), but like a young man who has been required by television’s strictures to bite off more than he can chew. He is thrilled (please always mentally insert the word “genuinely” before any adjective describing him) to meet retired European Space Agency astronaut and Army Air Corps major Tim Peake, who went into space in 2015, at the RAF Centre of Aerospace Medicine, to see how well he withstands G-force. Bourgeois tells him he habitually loses vision if he stands up too quickly. You can see...

A plow truck clears snow on I-40 during Winter Storm Fern in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, U.S. January 24, 2026. Nick Oxford | Reuters A massive winter storm dumped sleet, freezing rain and snow across much of the U.S. on Sunday, bringing subzero temperatures and paralyzing air and road traffic. Power lines were draped in ice, and hundreds of thousands of people in the Southeast were left without electricity. The ice and snowfall were expected to continue into Monday in much of the country, followed by very low temperatures, which could cause "dangerous travel and infrastructure impacts" to linger for several days, the National Weather Service said. Heavy snow was forecast from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast, while "catastrophic ice accumulation" threatened from the Lower Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. "It is a unique storm in the sense that it is so widespread," weather service meteorologist Allison Santorelli said in a phone interview. "It was affecting areas all the way from New Mexico, Texas, all the way into New England, so we're talking like a 2,000 mile spread." President Donald Trump had approved emergency declarations for at least a dozen states by Saturday, with more expected to come. The Federal Emergency Management Agency pre-positioned commodities, staff and search and rescue teams in numerous states, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said the state was bracing for the longest cold stretch and highest snow totals it has seen in years. Communities near the Canadian border have already seen record-breaking subzero temperatures, with Watertown registering minus 34 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 37 degrees Celsius) and Copenhagen minus 49 F (minus 45 C), she said. "An Arctic siege has taken over our state," Hochul said. "It is brutal, it is bone chilling and it is dangerous." Storm knocks out power and snarls flights As of Sunday morning, about 213 million people were under some sort of winter weather w...

Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) is included among Dividend Contenders List: Top 20 Stocks. Barclays Sees 2026 as a Pivotal Year for Comcast and the Broader Telecom Landscape On January 13, Barclays analyst Kannan Venkateshwar lowered the firm’s price target on Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) to $28 from $30 and maintained an Equal Weight rating. The change came as part of a broader adjustment to price targets across the cable, satellite, and telecom services group tied to Barclays’ 2026 outlook. In the note, the analyst said 2026 "could establish the longer-term operating road map for convergence, which may also require a different capital allocation template across the industry." Even after the reset, Barclays said Comcast "could be an interesting value opportunity." On the business front, Comcast has been leaning into new distribution channels. Earlier in December, the company and Amazon announced the rollout of Amazon Luna across millions of Xfinity TV and streaming devices in the US. Xfinity customers with eligible X1 or Xfinity Xumo Stream Box devices can now access Amazon Luna’s game library directly through their existing entertainment setup. Amazon Luna itself has also been refreshed. The service has been redesigned to appeal to players with a wide range of interests and experience levels. Prime members now get access to more than 50 games at no extra cost. The offering includes GameNight experiences designed for living-room play, with no controller required. Players can scan a QR code on their TV and join using their mobile phones. Key Points Shares of this industrial sector powerhouse experienced a steep decline in 2025's first quarter. Eaton has since rebounded from its April 2025 low and now trades near its all-time high. Investors should look carefully at the valuations Eaton trades at today. 10 stocks we like better than Eaton Plc › I own Eaton (NYSE: ETN) stock, and I have no intention of selling it. I'm going to follow Warren Buffett's advice and hold for the long term to benefit from the company's growth over time. But would I buy it now? The answer is likely no. Here's why. What does Eaton do? Eaton is a more than 100-year-old industrial giant. With a market cap of more than $140 billion, it is one of the 10 largest publicly traded industrial companies on the planet. When it started out, it focused on the auto sector, making truck axles. Today, however, after decades of shifting its business with the world around it, Eaton's primary focus is on products that manage electricity. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » Its last big change came in 2012, when Eaton acquired Cooper Industries. Today, its electrical business sales in the Americas provide 47% of total revenue, and the segment's sales in the rest of the world account for another 25% of the top line. The company still makes auto products, and it also has a sizable aerospace business, but the clear driver of its results is its electricity-focused business. The industrial giant looks like it has positioned itself well to take advantage of the ongoing global trend toward electrification, which is why I'm not going to sell my shares, despite a material increase in their value. In fact, over the past five years alone, Eaton's stock price is up more than 250%, handily outdistancing the more than 90% gain of the S&P 500. The opportunity has passed That said, I'm not interested in buying any more shares of Eaton at current price levels. Earl...

Her body was wrapped in a sheet and dumped in a rubbish container in the Sisli district, where it was discovered on Saturday evening by a paper collector looking for items to recycle, the DHA news agency said. Investigators identified the victim as a 37-year-old Uzbek national. Advertisement They were not immediately able to find the victim’s head or her legs, but while reviewing security camera footage, they spotted two men dumping a suitcase at a different bin. It was not immediately clear what it contained. Hours later, police detained two suspects, also Uzbek nationals, at Istanbul Airport as they were trying to leave the country, DHA said. They later arrested a third suspect. Advertisement Women’s rights groups expressed outrage, calling for demonstrators to join two protest marches in Istanbul and Ankara. Large crowds met at Osmanbey metro station in Sisli, carrying banners and placards reading “Stop male violence!”, “We demand justice for women who are murdered” and “Migrant women are not alone”, NGO footage showed.

Palo Alto found success by introducing several disruptive innovations while building a comprehensive cybersecurity platform covering network security, endpoint security, and cloud security. The stock returned 394% in the last five years, capturing a wave of strong growth and accelerating profitability. In the last reported fiscal fourth quarter (for the period ended June 30), Palo Alto Networks reported a 12% year-over-year revenue growth while earnings per share (EPS) increased by 5%. More impressive was the momentum in annualized recurring revenue (ARR) from next-generation security products, which grew by 43% year over year, suggesting a runway into 2025 and beyond. The company believes its ARR for next-generation security including zero-trust solutions can triple in size by fiscal 2030. Transtifa 'Kyle' Instructs Comrades In Minneapolis: "Get Your F**king Guns, Stop These F**king People" About one year ago, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Counterterrorism Division conducted an unclassified briefing warning of an emerging domestic threat vector described as " nihilistic accelerationism ." The briefing was around the time of a series of attacks in which left-wing militants firebombed Tesla vehicles at showrooms. These attacks were largely in response to President Donald Trump and Elon Musk's crusade against the federal bureaucracy through DOGE-related initiatives. By late summer, less than two weeks before Charlie Kirk was assassinated by a left-wing activist, we published an assessment titled "America Has a 'Transtifa' Problem." The report probably stunned most people, and they couldn't believe their eyes as the accelerating convergence of militant ideology and left-wing activism was beginning to unleash chaos. Weeks later, we penned another note, titled "Planning War Against Fascists" - Socialist Rifle Association Boasts 10,000 Members ... In our opinion, the profiling of these left-wing activists, from the Tesla Takedown fueled by dark-money funded NGOs ( permanent protest industrial complex ) and the militant left to anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles , to the political assassination of Kirk, only suggested to us that left-wing chaos would accelerate into the new year. The nation has entered a dangerous period , as the turmoil in Minneapolis could be replicated in other sanctuary cities when warmer weather arrives. Left-Wing NGOs Plan "Economic Blackout" Across Minnesota As State Becomes Testbed For Revolution Left-wing activists are reported to be operating shadow police-style networks on Signal to target federal immigration agents, possibly in coordination with local police and with individuals linked to Gov. Walz, in efforts to impede federal deportation operations. The clashes between activists and federal agents have already resulted in multi...
