Sundry Photography/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Amid an incredibly choppy stock market in 2026, March has tested investors the most, with tremendous fluctuation owing to continued fear of AI innovations, the open-ended conflict in Iran, and a shaky macroeconomy. And amid the "SaaSpocalypse," few subsectors within technology have seen as much downside as the cybersecurity space. With investors flocking to safety, it's perhaps not altogether surprising that Palo Alto Networks ( PANW ), one of the most prominent cybersecurity companies, has retained the most value. Since the start of January, Palo Alto Networks has fallen just shy of 10% (though technically the stock is still in a bear market, down more than 20% from October peaks near $220). Is Palo Alto Networks truly the best bargain available in the market today? Data by YCharts I last wrote a "Buy" rating on Palo Alto Networks in December, when the stock was trading at $187 per share. Since then, the stock has lost ~12%, which is far more benign than many stocks not just in the cybersecurity space but in the broader software/tech industry. While I believe the Claude-related, AI-driven cybersecurity "SaaSpocalypse" is far overblown, I also think that Palo Alto Networks' valuation gap relative to its peers has widened, prompting us to be more mindful of the risks that the company faces. I'm downgrading the stock to "N eutral." To me, at current share prices, Palo Alto Networks is more of a balanced bag of positives and negatives. On the bright side for the company: Palo Alto Networks is one of the broadest platforms in cybersecurity and addresses a massive $300 billion TAM. The company has evolved well beyond its original next-gen firewall products, especially through its recent acquisitions of CyberArk (identity management) and Chromosphere (infrastructure observability). Rule of 40. Palo Alto Networks has long balanced superior growth rates (clocking in the mid-teens pre-acquisition integration, on an organic...
