Welcome to India Edition, Bloomberg’s daily dive into what’s moving the worlds of business, markets and politics in this dynamic, fast-paced economy. I’m Menaka Doshi . If you didn’t receive this directly in your inbox, you can subscribe here , and share feedback with us here . Today, I look at India’s role in peace-making in the Gulf (it has none yet!) and my colleague Mihir Mishra speaks to a sailor on one of the Indian LPG vessels that navigated the Strait of Hormuz. Ceasefire or Head Fake? Is this truly the start of a ceasefire or the calm before a final brutal assault in the war on Iran? That question has had global markets on edge all day even as oil and the dollar edged back up and stocks tread water . The talk of a deal “could be a head fake,” Fred Fleitz, a former White House National Security Council official now at the America First Policy Institute, said to Bloomberg , though he was hopeful it could lead to an end to major military operations. Right now it looks as if all sides are playing both offense and defense. Israel has continued to strike Iran , which has kept up its attacks on Gulf countries, who are now reportedly considering joining the war , even though it was they who advised the US to back off from its 48-hour ultimatum to Iran. And as more US marines head to the region, President Trump claimed peace negotiations are on with an unnamed interlocutor in Iran. Many countries are pushing to mediate, led by Pakistan . On Monday, Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir spoke with Trump and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. That leaves India out in the cold, raising questions about the country’s foreign policy outcomes. It’s fine if India wanted to sit this one out but then why visit Israel hours before the war broke? India sees all the actors in this conflict as important partners, and the Gulf as a critical part of its extended neighborhood, making this an inherently delicate balancing act, said Chetna Kuma...

hapabapa JFrog ( FROG ) shares rose 3% in premarket trading on Tuesday after UBS upgraded the enterprise software company, stating that the sell-off due to worries about artificial intelligence is “overdone.” “After speaking with ~15 checks, we upgrade JFrog to a Buy (from Neutral) following a ~30% drop in the stock since early December as we think the risk/reward now looks attractive with AI disruption risk now priced into the stock,” analyst Radi Sultan wrote in a note to clients. “The overall growth outlook for JFrog sounded better than a few months ago, with no signs of a slowdown and virtually every check we spoke with pointing to healthy/accelerating growth this year. Our work supports our FY26-28 revs growth estimates of 24%/21%/19%, respectively above the Street’s 18%/17%/17%, and at 23x our CY27e FCF and sentiment now leaning negative, we like the setup from here. While we think bending the AI disruption narrative will take time, JFrog looks set to benefit from multiple AI tailwinds in the near term and we think upward estimate revisions will be key to flipping the narrative. We see 1Q26 earnings in May as the next catalyst for the stock.” In addition to the upgrade, Sultan put a $60 price target on JFrog shares. peterschreiber.media/iStock via Getty Images ASP Isotopes ( ASPI ) said Tuesday it has begun a strategic collaboration with the University of Bristol for the design of a state-of-the-art lithium laser research facility in the U.K . Under the terms of the agreement, the University of Bristol will lead the design and feasibility study for a site-agnostic laser enrichment research facility over an estimated four-month initial phase, the company said. Subject to a positive feasibility assessment, the groups would proceed with construction of the facility at a University of Bristol site off-campus to enable cutting-edge research commissioned and funded by ASP Isotopes' ( ASPI ) subsidiary Quantum Leap Energy. ASP Isotopes ( ASPI ) shares surged 14.6% on Monday after announcing it had completed the drilling of the wells required for Phase 1 of the Renergen Helium Project approximately four months ahead of schedule. "Drilling results from the Phase 1C exploration campaign indicate that the reservoir system is capable of delivering gas flow rates that meet or exceed previously estimated type curves—directly addressing the flow constraints that have historically limited plant utilization and helium production," ASP Isotopes ( ASPI ) Executive Chairman and CEO Paul Mann said. Robert Way/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Ralph Lauren’s ( RL ) strategy to elevate the brand is working, says Citi Research analyst Paul Lejuez, who upgraded the stock to Buy from Neutral on his conviction in the company’s turnaround plan and ability to navigate current macroeconomic volatility. “Ralph Lauren has been an impressive turnaround story over the past several years. They have achieved consistent average unit retail gains at a greater magnitude and for longer than we have previously expected, which we believe serves as a major proof point that their strategy to elevate the brand is working,” Lejuez writes in his note to clients. According to Lejuez, by the end of this year, Ralph Lauren ( RL ) will have achieved a 6.5% compounded annual growth rate and over 350 basis points of EBIT margin expansion since FY22, with more to come. Thanks to the company’s effective marketing and sponsorships (i.e. Olympics), the momentum of the brand is expected to continue, evidenced by the consistent addition of new customers. For each quarter over the past two years, Ralph Lauren ( RL ) has added 1.5M to 2M new customers each quarter. And in the most recent holiday quarter, management indicated they added 2.1M new customers compared to 1.9M in the same period of 2024, with a “significant” portion of their new customers Gen Z and Millennials. “Ralph Lauren’s ability to attract a younger customer (something all brands have been trying to do) has been a major accomplishment and also part of the reason to be bullish on future results (and the stock). These younger customers are transacting at a higher price point, and retention has been stronger than prior cohorts,” Lejuez says, adding that this combination sets the company up for a strong FY27. Accordingly, Lejuez raises his estimates for FY26/27/28 EPS to $16.54/$19.47/$22.84 from prior estimates of $16.38/$18.62/$21.37 and above the consensus estimates. Deutsche Lufthansa AG is seeing a significant increase in bookings for March departures as the war in the Middle East disrupts operations for Gulf-based carriers, Chief Financial Officer Till Streichert said. As many as 700 aircraft are sidelined or flying at reduced capacity because of the conflict, redirecting demand to carriers still running near-normal operations, he said. In the first two weeks after the Feb. 28 attack on Iran, Lufthansa bookings increased about 20% for this month, with an even higher jump on Asia-Pacific routes. “We saw a substantial net increase in bookings in March for flights departing in March,” Streichert said in an interview in Frankfurt. “We were able to meet the additional demand as best we could.” The German company is adding more than 60 extra flights to destinations including Bangkok, Singapore, New Delhi and Shanghai. Streichert “absolutely” sees the possibility of shifting capacity to Asia on a more lasting basis. Meanwhile, the carrier is extending its service suspensions to the Middle East for several more months. Flights to Dubai and Tel Aviv are halted until May 31, while those to other cities — including Abu Dhabi, Beirut and Tehran — are suspended until Oct. 24, Lufthansa said Monday. The benefit of stronger bookings is counteracted somewhat by a higher fuel bill, despite Lufthansa’s hedging strategy. Lufthansa hedged about 80% of its fuel exposure for 2026 and about 40% for 2027 at pre-crisis levels. “I expect that even at current prices, we will see a higher bill than we had predicted three or four weeks ago for 2026,” Streichert said. The flag carrier already raised ticket prices in response, and Streichert said fare increases may continue if oil stays elevated. Brent climbed above $100 a barrel Tuesday. “It is not possible to predict at this time how the net situation will develop,” he said. Lufthansa has long-term contracts with fuel suppliers, and deliveries are solid for the next few months. “Things can also change,” ...

sankai/E+ via Getty Images Geopolitical headlines rarely arrive quietly. The recent escalation in the Middle East is a reminder of how quickly tensions can feel destabilizing. Markets have long navigated geopolitical shocks. What differentiates today’s environment is not simply the number of conflicts, but an emerging and sustained friction. The world appears to be shifting away from a period of integration toward one characterized by strategic competition , industrial policy, and rising defense spending. History shows that most geopolitical shocks do not leave a lasting imprint on markets. Investors who stayed invested - and selectively added exposure during weakness - have generally been rewarded. The objective is not to react to every headline, but to distinguish between short-term volatility and structural change. Persistent geopolitical friction can raise risk premia and alter the diversification characteristics of assets - both of which can be critical considerations for investors. Putting today’s risk in perspective At the 2026 Munich Security Conference, policymakers focused on whether the post-war global order is over. 1 Meanwhile, recent conflicts across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America have pushed today’s current geopolitical risk environment ranking into the 90 th percentile of history (red dot, chart). For investors, the key question is how a future that is potentially characterized by more frequent conflicts could impact asset prices. The chart below shows the response of equities and sovereign yields to some of the largest geopolitical events since World War II. Three observations stand out: Extreme geopolitical events can disrupt financial markets. The most notable example is the 1973 Yom Kippur War, which led to an oil embargo, a doubling of WTI prices, energy rationing, and a severe adverse supply shock that knocked the global economy into recession. Most geopolitical events, however, do not leave a lasting imprint. The median pea...

Senators Close To Deal To End Airport TSA Crisis As Americans' Fury Mounts With no-shows by unpaid TSA agents imposing hours-long security-line waits and missed flights on flyers at major airports across the country, senators on Monday night signaled that a deal to end the TSA crisis is finally within sight. The leap toward a deal followed a White House meeting of a group of Republican senators hosted by President Trump. “It went really well,” said Alabama Sen. Katie Britt, who was among the attendees. Asked if the group had a solution in hand, she replied "We do." Optimistic signals came from the other side of the aisle as well. “Both sides are talking in a serious way," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told the Wall Street Journal on his way out of the Capitol on Monday night. Chaos at PHL International airport right now😳😳several TSA checkpoints are closed @FOX29philly pic.twitter.com/1n3zq9gYwz — Morgan Parrish (@MorganParrishTV) March 19, 2026 The crisis sprang from Democrats' refusal to fund the Department of Homeland Security unless reforms are made to how Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers carry out their duties . Those demands came after ICE agents shot two aggressive anti-ICE activists to death in two separate incidents in Minnesota. Some of the leftists' demands may actually be considered reasonable by those right-wingers and libertarians who are wary of police overreach -- such measures include refraining from forcible entry into private homes without a warrant, a ban on agents wearing masks, and the implementation of body cameras. Democrats have also demanded an end to roving patrols and additional training on use of force and de-escalation. With Republicans only holding a 53-47 margin , the Democrats have the numbers to block funding, since it takes 60 votes to get by a filibuster. 🚨 #BREAKING : ABSOLUTE PANDAMONIUM at the New Orleans airport this morning where the TSA security line stretched... ...ALL THE WAY OUT INTO THE PARKING G...

Welcome to our guide to the commodities driving the global economy. Today, reporter Alex Longley looks at the limits of recent messaging that has helped calm oil markets. Whether you’re an optimist that President Donald Trump is in talks to end the Iran war or not, one thing is clear: US officials are making oil trading ever harder. Trump’s Truth Social post yesterday was the latest — and most forceful — in a string of official comments that had the effect of pushing oil prices lower. His retreat from threats to strike Iran’s energy infrastructure followed warnings from allies that the conflict was fast becoming a disaster. Trump already said over two weeks ago that the conflict would end soon, but the bombing has continued and very few ships are escaping the Persian Gulf. His administration has tried to ease the impact on oil markets by adding barrels to the market through emergency reserves, unsanctioning Russian oil stranded at sea and removing restrictions on Iranian supplies. Last week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US could even consider a further release from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve, just days after the International Energy Agency announced record stockpile withdrawals to combat oil prices above $100. But Trump’s proclamation that “productive conversations” with Iran had taken place was the first suggestion that something tangible is happening to end the war, even if Tehran denied them. Brent futures fell about $17 in minutes to as low as $96. Speculators had held the most net-bullish wagers since 2020 in the days prior to the post. Still, even if recent messaging has helped ease prices, the war has also shown just how much control Iran can exert over the Strait of Hormuz, which handles about a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas. “The part we need to focus on is not only a ceasefire and a peace, but who would control the Strait of Hormuz?” said Nadia Martin Wiggen, a director at Svelland Capital, in a Bloomberg TV interview...
