First Test: England 140; New Zealand 61-6 Paceman’s stunning return gives England the edge It took two years for Ollie Robinson to force his way back into the England set-up and then about five minutes to win over their supporters. Steaming in from the Nursery End, Robinson produced a devastating three-wicket first over – and four overall – to cap an absurd opening day against New Zealand. Some 16 wickets fell across only 60 overs of rain-affected play and, if this Test was being played in Australia, the groundsman might be feeling twitchy about having to give a press conference on Saturday. The pitch may ease up before then, even if the quicks on both sides will be hoping it stays just as fruity. Continue reading...

Since 2015, destructive fires have undone years of effort to reduce ozone levels, underscoring a growing public health crisis The highly destructive wildfires that have battered the US and North America in recent years have significantly increased emissions and been linked to tens of thousands of premature deaths, but their impact on air quality is greater than previously known, according to new research. A study published in Science on Thursday found that, since 2015, wildfires have reversed US progress toward ozone air quality standards, as the worsening pollution caused by wildfire smoke has undone years of efforts to reduce emissions. Ground-level ozone (O3) is created when pollutants from cars, refineries and industrial sources reacts with sunlight, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Continue reading...

Walter Cicchetti According to Goldman Sachs ( GS ), SpaceX ( SPCX ) revenue related to artificial intelligence is forecast to jump 100 times between now and 2030, the Financial Times reported on Thursday. The investment bank expects AI-related revenue to surge to $322B by 2030, up from around $3.2B in 2025, according to a forecast that was discussed with a potential investor, the news outlet explained . SpaceX's total revenue is expected to hit $474B by 2030, including $144B from Starlink. The investment bank also expects SpaceX to generate $72B in free cash flow by 2031, the news outlet added. In 2025, SpaceX's revenue was $18.7B, with the vast majority coming from Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet service. SpaceX's AI-related revenue primarily comes from its Grok chatbot and related services. It also recently signed a deal with Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) that will see the former pay the latter $1.25B a month for computing access to SpaceXAI's Colossus 1 data center. Anthropic and OpenAI ( OPENAI ) compete with xAI, now known as SpaceXAI, in the generative artificial intelligence space. For comparison purposes, it was reported that Anthropic hit a revenue run rate of $50B last month, while OpenAI said recently it was generating $2B in revenue per month. Anthropic recently confirmed it has confidentially filed to go public, while OpenAI is believed to be discussing its own public offering. SpaceX acquired the company then known as xAI in February 2026. Before the merger, both companies were run by Elon Musk. Musk is also the CEO of Tesla ( TSLA ). Separately on Thursday, it was reported that Goldman Sachs analysts expect SpaceX to go through $350B in cash by 2030. Goldman Sachs is the lead investment bank on SpaceX's upcoming initial public offering. SpaceX has said it will sell 555.5M shares at $135 apiece, an unusual move for an initial public offering. Many shares are expected to go towards retail investors , including clients of brokerages like Fidelity . SpaceX a...

DNY59/E+ via Getty Images You retire on a Tuesday. The market drops 18% on Wednesday. Same portfolio, same dividend stocks you held last week, and every red number now feels personal. That gap between feeling and reality is the difference between the accumulation phase and the decumulation phase. When you are 40, a market drop is a sale. When you are 65, it can feel like the end of your retirement plan. The portfolio did not change. Your relationship to it did. This article walks through what volatility means at each stage, why your age matters less than your conviction, and the practical steps that let you sit through any market drop without flinching. Short answer: Volatility tolerance has nothing to do with your birthday. It is a function of conviction, cash position, and a written plan. Get those three right, and you can hold equities at 75 without losing sleep. Get them wrong and you will panic at 40. Risk, Hazard, and Volatility Are Not the Same Thing Most investors mix three concepts together. Untangling them is the foundation of everything else in this article. Risk is the chance your return differs from what you expected. Every equity investment carries some. Hazard is any condition that raises the odds of a loss. A penny stock is a hazard. A blue chip with a clean dividend triangle is not. You reduce hazard by avoiding concentration, weak balance sheets, and speculative plays. You cannot eliminate risk. Volatility tolerance is how much price movement you can stomach before you sell at the wrong time. Investor questionnaires call it risk tolerance. What they measure is volatility tolerance. The Canadian banks in 2008 are the textbook case. Their fundamentals were fine. The subprime mess was a US problem. But their share prices dropped 30% to 50% as global markets sold off. Investors who held through the noise recovered their money by the end of 2009, dividends included. The risk was perceived. The volatility was real. Knowing the difference between price ac...

Those who have held shares of Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) over the past five years are sitting pretty. The stock has skyrocketed by more than 1,000% over this period, establishing itself as the quintessential growth stock and becoming the world's largest company in the process. However, Nvidia may not be done rewarding investors. The company's CEO, Jensen Huang, recently made a commitment to shareholders that warrants close attention. Here's what investors need to know. Nvidia initiated a dividend in 2012, but its dividend per share and forward yield were not particularly impressive for a long time compared to those of its similarly sized tech peers . Nvidia recently changed that when it announced a 2,400% increase in its quarterly dividend, now $0.25 -- up from $0.01. That means the semiconductor specialist 's forward yield is about 0.5% right now. Image source: The Motley Fool. Continue reading

SCM Jeans/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Qantas ( QUBSF ) ( QABSY ) is evaluating a potential purchase of roughly 20 additional long-haul aircraft and has opened discussions with both Airbus ( EADSF )( EADSY ) and Boeing ( BA ) as it continues a sweeping fleet modernization effort, Reuters reported Thursday, citing industry sources familiar with the matter. The Australian carrier is considering either more Boeing 787 Dreamliners or Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The talks remain preliminary and confidential. Neither Airbus nor Boeing commented to Reuters on the reported discussions. A Qantas spokesperson said the airline routinely engages with aircraft manufacturers as part of its long-term fleet planning process and would disclose any future orders when appropriate. The company said it has no new aircraft purchases to announce at this time. The potential order comes as airlines worldwide continue expanding wide-body fleets to address aircraft shortages and position themselves for long-term international travel growth. The discussions also follow reports that Singapore Airlines has begun exploring a major order for at least 50 large passenger jets to support expansion plans over the next decade. Qantas currently operates approximately 128 aircraft and is in the midst of a fleet renewal program that encompasses about 200 jets. The carrier already has outstanding commitments for 12 Boeing 787s and 24 Airbus A350-1000s. Those A350 orders include a dozen specially modified ultra-long-range aircraft intended for the airline's Project Sunrise initiative, which aims to offer nonstop flights from Australia's east coast to destinations including London and New York. The airline also holds purchase options for additional aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing. Industry sources said some of those options could be exercised as part of the current evaluation. Competition between Airbus and Boeing has long shaped Qantas' fleet strategy. Two decades ago, the airline's decision to back...

Airbnb Inc. Chief Executive Officer Brian Chesky is starting a new artificial intelligence lab, according to several people familiar with the matter, marking his first foray into the global AI race. Chesky plans to create an AI venture to develop artificial intelligence models and is considering a focus on user interaction and design, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity as the information is not public. He is in the early stages of funding the lab, one person said, and the details could change. Chesky will remain CEO of Airbnb, several people said. He will not serve as chief executive of the new lab, one person said. Chesky co-founded Airbnb nearly 20 years ago after studying design in college. In recent years, he has often said AI applications for travel and e-commerce require a rich user interface, rather than the kind of text-based chatbots popularized by OpenAI and Anthropic PBC. Unlike online travel rivals Expedia Group Inc. and Booking Holdings Inc. , Airbnb has not partnered with OpenAI to create a plug-in within ChatGPT, as Chesky has said the AI startup’s tools aren’t robust enough. Representatives for Chesky and Airbnb declined to comment. Chesky is in the midst of transforming Airbnb into a “do-it-all” travel app, including new add-on services that he hopes could eventually bring in $1 billion or more in revenue a year. Airbnb employees have embraced AI coding tools to help accelerate the expansion, with new business pilots spun up in weeks rather than years, Chesky said in an interview last month. As a rare founder-CEO of a Fortune 500 company, Chesky has been deeply involved in setting the product and business vision of Airbnb. His hands-on approach inspired entrepreneur and investor Paul Graham to coin the term “founder mode” in 2024.

Ashi Sae Yang/iStock via Getty Images Every stock in your portfolio plays a role. Most investors do not separate the workhorses from the bets they are still figuring out, and that confusion costs them the moment markets turn rough. At Dividend Stocks Rock, we sort every name into one of three buckets: core holdings, educated guesses, and falling knives. The label captures the role the stock plays for me and how I expect to manage it. Get the role wrong, and a 30% drop will scare you out of a great business. Get it right, and the same drop becomes a buying opportunity. Here is how the three buckets work, with two current examples in each. What is a core holding? A core holding is a stock you can own for ten years without checking the screen (but you still should!). Strong dividend triangle, sustainable payout ratio, durable moat, and capital allocation you trust. These names should make up 70% to 80% of a retirement portfolio. I want the dividend triangle (revenue growth, earnings growth, dividend growth) clean. I want the payout ratio comfortable. I want a balance sheet that gives management room to keep paying through a recession. And I want a business model I can explain to a 12-year-old in two sentences. The Dividend Triangle is the Pareto Principle for Investors. Mastercard ( MA )( MA:CA ): A Real Tollbooth Mastercard sits at the top of its category. PRO rating 5 of 5, Dividend Safety 5 of 5. The dividend triangle is one of the cleanest in the market. Payout ratio sits under 20%. Cash payout ratio is 17%. The business model is a tollbooth. Every swipe puts a few cents in Mastercard’s pocket. The network effect runs decades deep. Cash, fraud, and crypto get the headlines, but the core machine keeps growing as commerce moves online and cross-border. MA’s yield is nearly non-existent, which can be unattractive to income-seeking investors. However, it exhibits a double-digit dividend growth rate over the past five years. The forward yield is currently above the 5-ye...
