His successor may face a tougher challenge, as Wall Street forecasters raise their expectations of recession, brought on in part by the Iran war and potential for higher prices. In recent days, economists have pulled up their risk assessments of a U.S. contraction amid heightened uncertainty over geopolitical risk and a labor market that for the past year has shown strains over the past year. Moody's Analytics' model has raised its recession outlook for the next 12 months to 48.6%. Goldman Sachs boosted its estimate to 30%. Wilmington Trust has the odds at 45%, while EY Parthenon has it at 40%, with the caveat that "those odds could rapidly rise in the event of a more prolonged or severe Middle East conflict." In normal times, the risk for a recession in any given 12-months span is around 20%. So while the current predictions are hardly certainties, they signify elevated risk. watch now VIDEO 3:29 03:29 Why Moody's Mark Zandi thinks the risks of a recession are rising Squawk on the Street The situation poses a tough challenge for policymakers who are being asked to balance threats to the labor market against sticky inflation . "I'm concerned recession risks are uncomfortably high and on the rise," said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics. "Recession is a real threat here." War drives the fears Talk of an economic contraction has accelerated as the war with Iran has dragged on. An oil shock has preceded virtually every recession the U.S. has seen since the Great Depression, save for the Covid pandemic. Prices at the pump have risen by $1.02 a gallon over the past month, an increase of 35%, according to AAA . While economists still debate the pass-through impact from higher energy, the trend has held. "The negative consequences...

BlackJack3D AI-linked laggards in 2026 are concentrated in software and IT services, where expectations around monetization and margin expansion have yet to keep pace with the broader enthusiasm for artificial intelligence. Several high-growth application and platform companies have seen sharp drawdowns year to date. Atlassian ( TEAM ) leads the decline, down nearly 58% YTD, followed by steep losses in names such as Figma ( FIG ), HubSpot ( HUBS ), and MongoDB ( MDB ). Cybersecurity and cloud-focused firms, including Zscaler ( ZS ) and Snowflake ( SNOW ), have also come under pressure, alongside enterprise software leaders like Adobe ( ADBE ) and Salesforce ( CRM ). The weakness extends to IT services providers such as Accenture ( ACN ), Cognizant ( CTSH ), Infosys ( INFY ), and Wipro ( WIT ), where AI-driven efficiency gains are increasingly viewed as a longer-term opportunity rather than an immediate earnings catalyst. Overall, the pullback reflects a shift in investor focus toward near-term execution, profitability, and measurable AI-driven growth, particularly as capital continues to flow more decisively toward infrastructure and hardware-linked segments. Against this backdrop, let’s take a look at the worst AI-linked performers year to date: Atlassian ( TEAM ): -57.96% Figma ( FIG ): -41.48% HubSpot ( HUBS ): -40.71% MongoDB ( MDB ): -39.54% Zscaler ( ZS ): -38.02% AppLovin ( APP ): -35.31% Adobe ( ADBE ): -31.75% Salesforce ( CRM ): -30.91% Credo ( CRDO ): -30.29% Accenture ( ACN ): -27.86% Cognizant ( CTSH ): -27.42% IonQ ( IONQ ): -27.12% Astera Labs ( ALAB ): -26.81% Infosys ( INFY ): -26.60% Snowflake ( SNOW ): -26.45% Wipro ( WIT ): -26.06% Super Micro ( SMCI ): -24.05% Nutanix ( NTNX ): -23.95% Madrigal Pharmaceuticals ( MDGL ): -23.6% Veeva Systems ( VEEV ): -19.7% Semiconductors, technology, and robotics-related ETFs: ( SMH ), ( SHOC ), ( USD ), ( NVDL ), ( SMHX ), ( IXN ), ( USXF ), ( WUGI ), ( FTEC ), ( GXPT ), ( BOTZ ), ( ROBO ), ( UBOT ), ( AIQ ), ...
