Moreover, the grid is an Achilles heel for the United States. Five significant risks currently face the grid. The rapid retirement of “firm” baseload power (coal and gas) is outpacing the development of new, reliable energy supplies. Growing demand from AI data centers, electric vehicles, and domestic manufacturing is driving a surge in grid demand. Approximately 70% of transmission lines and transformers are over 25 years old. Bouts of severe weather, including heat waves, winter storms, and wildfires, have damaged the grid, and security threats during the current geopolitical turmoil have heightened the risk of cyberwarfare or direct physical attacks. The bottom line is that the U.S. electric grid faces a challenge in 2026. The Tema Electrification ETF ( VOLT ) owns a portfolio of companies working to modernize, improve, and advance the U.S. and global electric grids. Electricity Demand From AI Is Rising Electricity generation increases with demand, and the trend is bullish. Electricity Demand Forecasted Trend (eneroutlook.enerdata.net) While population growth and electric vehicles are increasing electricity demand, AI data centers are turbocharging that growth. According to a February 2025 Goldman Sachs report , AI will drive a 165% increase in data center power demand by 2030. Cash-Rich Technology Companies Increase The Odds Of M&A Activity In Power Generation The leading companies with the most substantial market caps in AI infrastructure and hardware are Nvidia ( NVDA ), Amazon ( AMZN ), and Microsoft ( MSFT ). In the same market-cap category, the companies developing the world’s most advanced generative AI models are Alphabet ( GOOG ) and Meta ( META ). While many other technology companies are working toward AI solutions, the five mentioned are market-cap leaders. Comp...

JHVEPhoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images CVS Health ( CVS ) has reached a deal with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to settle allegations that its drug benefit manager (PBM), Caremark, artificially inflated the price of insulin through an illegal drug rebate system. The managed care giant said it expects the settlement process to be completed in the coming weeks and added that the final terms of the deal are still pending and will be confirmed after the settlement is finalized. The deal is part of a lawsuit that the FTC filed in September 2024, accusing leading U.S. PBMs CVS’s ( CVS ) Caremark, Cigna’s ( CI ) Express Scripts, and UnitedHealth’s ( UNH ) OptumRx of engaging in anticompetitive and unfair rebating practices related to insulin prices. In early February, Cigna ( CI ) settled with the FTC after agreeing to change the business practices of Express Scripts, which the regulator said would lower out-of-pocket costs for drugs such as insulin by up to $7B over 10 years. peshkov/iStock via Getty Images Yung-Yu Ma, chief investment strategist at PNC Asset Management, believes that investors seeking growth should maintain broad exposure to technology stocks ( VGT ), ( XLK ), ( IYW ) despite recent volatility in the sector. In an interview with CNBC, Ma argued that tech remains the most attractive area for investors, particularly as economic uncertainty stemming from geopolitical tensions and energy market disruptions threatens growth in other sectors. “Where you’re looking for growth, especially if growth becomes scarce, the tech is the area broadly speaking,” Ma said. While acknowledging that software stocks ( IGV ), ( IGPT ), ( XSW ) have faced pressure from AI-related disruptions, including reactions to new product releases from companies like Anthropic ( ANTHRO ), Ma maintained that these setbacks represent temporary “bumps in the road” rather than fundamental problems with the sector. Ma emphasized that investors should think broadly when considering tech exposure, including hardware names, AI-related plays, and communications-related stocks. He noted that even software companies experiencing “bottoming action” shouldn’t be completely avoided, particularly the stronger players. This diversified approach, he suggested, serves as a hedge against inflation potentially lasting longer than markets currently anticipate. For investors seeking a simpler route to tech exposure, Ma pointed out that the S&P 500 ( SP500 ) now comprises approximately 50% of technology or tech-adjacent companies. “That’s certainly a way to go,” he acknowledged, though he noted that more targeted exposure could benefit investors who recognize that economic shocks often leave the market landscape looking different than before. In contrast to tech’s relative stability, Ma expressed caution about other sectors. Energy market ( XLE ), ( AMLP ), ( VDE ) disruptions are putting pressure on profit margins and straining consumer budgets, while financials ( XLF ), ( VFH...

Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich and WSL derby will shape the rest of United’s season It is no exaggeration to describe the next seven days as the most significant week of fixtures in the history of the Manchester United women’s team, as they contest their first European quarter-final with a crucial derby in between. Debutants in the Champions League main draw, Marc Skinner’s side now have three box-office matches in huge arenas, starting with the first leg of their quarter‑final against Bayern Munich on Wednesday at Old Trafford, as the runaway Frauen‑Bundesliga leaders arrive in England hoping to illustrate their own European title credentials. The stage is set for a thriller. Continue reading...

cmart7327 Wells Fargo highlighted key news reports on semiconductors and IT hardware, including a strong performance of Apple's ( AAPL ) C1X modem, since last week. Analysts led by Aaron Rakers said that on Monday, the U.S. Census Bureau released construction data for January, in which we would see U.S. data center construction spending at $47B (seasonally adjusted), which is an increase of 31% year-over-year. Rolling three-month data center construction spend totals $138.2B, growing 30% year-over-year, accelerating from +27% in December. The analysts said SK hynix ( HXSCL ) is reportedly pulling forward its M15X DRAM Fab (Cheongju), with its second cleanroom equipment move in about two months ahead of schedule. Hynix has also moved its Yongin fab cleanroom opening from May to February 2027. In addition, the analysts highlighted SK hynix's €6.9B (about $8B) order of EUV tools from ASML planned over a two-year period ending December 2027. According to a report by TrendForce, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, or KAIST, has developed a new technology to address limitations of 3D NAND bandwidth limitations. The new technology is referred to as the smart gate concept in semiconductors — enabling simultaneous improvements in data processing speeds and data storage stability, the analysts added. In addition, Rakers and his team highlighted a recent third party test from Ookla showing strong performance in Apple's C1X modem, noting that "data from Q4 2025 unequivocally demonstrates that Apple’s in-house C1X modem represents a generational leap over the previous C1 model. The analysts pointed out that the report noted that the C1X reached parity in download and latency performance versus Qualcomm ( QCOM ) X80. The analysts noted that they remain interested in any upcoming performance data on Qualcomm's X85 modem (released in early 2025), with Android launches expected in the first half of 2026, as well as Samsung's recent S26 launch. The analysts also p...
