From 35m ago 13.19 GMT Federal agents arrest former CNN anchor Don Lemon Don Lemon, a former CNN anchor, was arrested by federal agents in Los Angeles, his lawyer said on Friday, days after a magistrate judge refused to approve charges against him for documenting a protest at a church in Minnesota. “Don Lemon was taken into custody by federal agents last night in Los Angeles, where he was covering the Grammy awards. Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than what he has always done,” his attorney Abbe Lowell said in a statement. He continued: Instead of investigating the federal agents who killed two peaceful Minnesota protesters, the Trump Justice Department is devoting its time, attention and resources to this arrest, and that is the real indictment of wrongdoing in this case. This unprecedented attack on the First Amendment and transparent attempt to distract attention from the many crises facing this administration will not stand. Don will fight these charges vigorously and thoroughly in court. (RTTNews) - Canadian stock may open on a negative note Friday morning with falling precious metals and oil prices set to trigger a sell-off in resources stocks. Investors will also be reacting to U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement that he is nominating Kevin Warsh as the next Federal Reserve chair. Warsh is seen as a bit hawkish on inflation with historical opposition to quantitative easing, suggesting a stronger dollar environment ahead. Reports about Trump and Senate Democrats striking a tentative agreement to avert a U.S. government shutdown may aid sentiment. Data from Statistics Canada showed the Canadian GDP expanded by 0.1% from the previous month in December of 2025, according to an advance estimate. The Canadian market ended weak on Thursday as technology stocks tumbled, tracking the fall in U.S. tech stocks after Microsoft reported slowing cloud computing growth in its fiscal second quarter and provided disappointing third quarter operating margin guidance. The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index ended the session with a loss of 159.94 points or 0.48% at 33,016.13. Asian stocks ended mostly lower on Friday as Apple warned of rising memory chip prices and China's state-owned Securities Times warned against speculative trading. Tariff worries resurfaced after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Canada with a 50% tariff on all aircraft sold in the United States and also signed an executive order that would impose a tariff on any goods from countries that sell or provide oil to Cuba, a step that raises fresh pressure on Mexico. The major European markets are up in positive territory today with investors digesting a slew of economic data from the region, and continuing to follow the developments on teh geopolitical front, and news from the U.S., including Trump appointing Kevin Warsh as the next Fed Chair. Gold futures are down $255.30 or 4.76% at $5,099.50 an ounce, and Silver futures are down $13.904 or 12.2% at $1005.25 an ounce, while Copper future...

Queen guitarist Brian May has ruled out touring in the US for the foreseeable future, because of the potential danger it would pose. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 78-year-old said: “America is a dangerous place at the moment, so you have to take that into account. “It’s very sad because I feel like Queen grew up in America and we love it, but it’s not what it was. Everyone is thinking twice about going there at the moment.” May did not specify the particular dangers they might face, but his comments come at a time when many American citizens and foreign visitors fear violence from ICE agents or examination of their political beliefs, and the threat of mass shootings – 425 such incidents in 2025, killing 420 people and wounding 1,898 – remains ever present. The British dance music star Piri cited “what’s going on in the US right now” as a factor when she cancelled a US tour earlier this week. In 2025, the Hungarian classical pianist András Schiff cancelled US concerts, saying: “Due to the recent and unprecedented political changes in the United States, I feel morally obligated to withdraw from all engagements in the US.” Also in 2025, Puerto Rican megastar Bad Bunny was asked by i-D magazine if the reason he didn’t schedule any US concerts last year was due to fears about deportation of Latino audience members. “Man, honestly, yes,” he replied. “There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the US, and none of them were out of hate … But there was the issue of – like, fucking ICE could be outside [a concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.” Numerous events celebrating Latin heritage and culture have been cancelled since ICE ramped up activity during Donald Trump’s second term, due to fears they will be targeted by anti-immigration agents. There are concerns beyond arts and cultural events, particularly around this year’s World Cup being hosted mostly in the US, and the implications for thousands of fans travelling from abr...

krblokhin/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Introduction The U.S.-focused tobacco company Altria Group, Inc. ( MO ) reported its results for the fourth quarter and full-year 2025 yesterday. MO stock declined by roughly 6% in reaction to the results, similar to when the company announced its results for the third quarter back in October 2025. Altria is one of the largest individual stock positions in my portfolio, so I follow it rather closely. My last article on the premium cigarettes market leader and owner of the Marlboro brand in the U.S., was published back in October and discussed the results for the third quarter of 2025. In this update, I'll take a fresh look at the company's "bread-and-butter" – or should I say "money-printing" – segment against the backdrop of the current trends underlying the domestic cigarettes industry. Importantly, of course, I'll also share my take on Altria's performance in alternative nicotine products. In particular, I'll give an update on the performance of the company's flagship nicotine pouch franchise on! and point out one aspect that has distorted the year-over-year comparison (to a modest extent). Altria Q4 And Full-Year 2025 Earnings Review: Spectacular Profitability Overshadowed By Continued Weakness In Smoke-Free Alternatives For the fourth quarter of 2025, Altria Group delivered adjusted earnings per share ( EPS ) of $1.30, slightly below consensus . For the full year, EPS came in at $5.42, up 4.4% year-over-year, despite a 1.5% year-over-year decline in net revenues. This puts the current valuation of Altria stock at a price-to-earnings ratio of just under 11. For the recently completed year, Altria reported a cigarette shipment volume of 61.8 billion sticks, representing a decline 10% (!) compared to the previous year. Cigar shipment volume rose 1.8% year-over-year, but due to the small contribution of this segment, the overall segment volume decline was only offset by 30 basis points. Comparing Altria's performance with...

Don Lemon, the former CNN anchor, was arrested late Thursday on charges that he violated federal law during a protest at a church in Minnesota earlier this month, according to his lawyer. Abbe Lowell, a lawyer for Lemon, said that Lemon was “taken into custody by federal agents last night in Los Angeles, where he was covering the Grammy awards”. “Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than what he has always done,” Lowell said. “The first amendment exists to protect journalists whose role it is to shine light on the truth and hold those in power accountable.” “Instead of investigating the federal agents who killed two peaceful Minnesota protesters, the Trump justice department is devoting its time, attention and resources to this arrest, and that is the real indictment of wrongdoing in this case,” Lowell added. “This unprecedented attack on the first amendment and transparent attempt to distract attention from the many crises facing this administration will not stand. Don will fight these charges vigorously and thoroughly in court.” The New York Times and CBS News also both reported the arrest on Friday morning. It is understood that Lemon remains in custody as of Friday. The Guardian has contacted the Department of Justice for comment, and it’s not clear yet what charges Lemon is facing. Lemon is expected to make a court appearance on Friday, CNN reported. “This is outrageous and cannot stand.
