People’s Daily, a mouthpiece of China’s ruling Communist Party, has warned Japan that higher military spending and what the newspaper called a looming “defence bubble” will not save an economy weakened by the falling yen and Iran war energy crisis, amid a protracted diplomatic row between Beijing and Tokyo. In this article FDX Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT A worker unloads packages from a FedEx truck on Cyber Monday in New York, US, on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025. Bess Adler | Bloomberg | Getty Images FedEx is launching a same-day shipping program with last-mile delivery company OneRail, just after Amazon announced it will start offering quicker shipping times, CNBC has learned exclusively. The new partnership means customers now have a definite "by end-of-day offering," according to Jason Brenner, FedEx's senior vice president of digital. "Our value prop is about speed, reliability and visibility, and we're always trying to push the envelope on that value prop," Brenner told CNBC. FedEx is the latest company to join retailers' race to offer the quickest delivery and highest convenience for consumers. Amazon announced last week that it is rolling out delivery windows of just one-to-three hours, and retailers like Walmart and Target have begun offering express delivery options as well — in part to keep up with the dominance of Amazon's Prime service in recent years. OneRail, a last-mile delivery software company, uses artificial intelligence to optimize delivery, routing and tracking for retailers' deliveries. The company said it covers nearly 99% of the U.S. and has a network of more than 1,000 delivery drivers, providing 80,000 30-minute or less deliveries per day. With the new partnership, FedEx will be able to use OneRail's technology to allow retailers to offer same-day shipping, in part by utilizing the retailer's store network. Customers will be able to choose more precise delivery windows, including two-hour and end-of-day service, in addition to near real-time tracking. "We're excited to partner with FedEx," OneRail CEO Bill Catania told CNBC. "It unlocks even more capabilities for the retailer, which really lets them own their customer and their data. Now, they have another option, and on the piggyback of the announcement from Amazon earlier this we...

Welcome to Tech In Depth, our daily newsletter about the business of tech from Bloomberg’s journalists around the world. Today, Luz Ding reports on Chinese AI companies’ many global admirers. Tech Across the Globe OnlyFans owner dies: Leonid Radvinsky, the reclusive billionaire owner of adult content platform OnlyFans, has died of cancer. He was 43. Rocket funding: German rocket startup Isar Aerospace is in talks to raise €250 million ($289 million) in funding ahead of a key launch attempt planned for this week, according to a person familiar with the matter. Wheely comes to NYC: London-based ride-hailing app Wheely is making its debut in the US, targeting business executives and high-net-worth individuals. Apple software: Apple is preparing to introduce advertising in its Maps app, according to people familiar with the matter. Separately, the iPhone maker announced that its annual developer conference will kick off on June 8. Revalued Grab agreed to buy Delivery Hero’s Foodpanda operations in Taiwan for $600 million, a deal that marks its first foray outside of its Southeast Asian base. The cash acquisition will allow Grab to expand into 21 cities across Taiwan, the company said. Admirers from across the Pacific After spending a year in Hong Kong reporting on China’s hottest AI startups, one question puzzled me: Why do they always release their new models in the middle of the night? The answer, I later learned, is that companies from Hangzhou-headquartered Alibaba to Beijing-based Z.ai and Shanghai’s MiniMax are hoping to impress developers across the Pacific. (Midnight in China is 9 a.m. in California.) But given long-standing tensions between Beijing and Washington — and lingering concerns over Chinese data security — I initially doubted that they would find a receptive audience. Turns out, they have. I recently spent time at two of America’s top universities, where I found that Chinese AI models were discussed in nearly every seminar and AI course. Later, when I...

Pavel Kot/iStock via Getty Images Performance Recap For the quarter, the PGIM Short Duration Muni Fund Class Z returned 0.80% net of fees and outperformed its benchmark, the Bloomberg 1-8 Year Municipal Index, gross of fees. Key Contributors The Fund's yield curve positioning. Security selection in Public Power. Key Detractors An overweight to Pre-Pay Gas bonds. Market Review In Q4, total return performance for tax-exempt municipal bonds was positive, as issuance remained heavy and the Fed resumed its rate-cutting policy with a 25-bp cut in both October and December. While bonds on the long end of the muni curve outperformed short and intermediate bonds during the quarter, longer maturities underperformed short maturities as the muni curve steepened over the full year. The tax-exempt market, as represented by the Bloomberg Municipal Bond Index, returned 1.56% in Q4 (on a total return basis), while the Bloomberg Taxable Municipal Index posted total returns of 1.37%. Municipal/Treasury yield ratios on 5-year, 10-year, and 30-year maturities ended the period at 65% (+3 pp), 66% (-4 pp), and 88% (-2 pp), respectively. Gross issuance in December totaled $41 billion and net issuance totaled $10 billion, bringing gross and net issuance for 2025 to $582 billion and $237 billion, respectively. Taxable issuance was $2 billion, representing 6% of December's total gross supply. On the demand side, tax-exempt mutual bond funds posted around $4 billion in inflows in December, driven primarily by inflows from national funds, ETFs, and intermediate funds. For 2025, inflows totaled around $49 billion ($14 billion for mutual funds and $35 billion for ETFs). Redemptions in December totaled $31 billion, lower than the historical average for the month. Quarter The Fund's curve flattener position contributed to performance as the 2s10s portion of the muni curve flattened. The Fund's duration positioning had a negligible impact on performance. Barrons: PGIM Investments ranked 4 out of 48,...

In December 2020, some $3.5 billion worth of Bitcoin was taken from its owner in what’s been called the biggest crypto hack ever. Almost five years later, the new holder of the hoard — by then worth over four times more — revealed itself. It was the US government . What was left unsaid is how US prosecutors came by the tokens, which they allege are the proceeds from a vast criminal empire run by Chinese tycoon Chen Zhi. “It is the largest financial takedown in US law enforcement history,” said Bradley Simon, a former federal prosecutor who is now a partner at Schlam Stone & Dolan LLP in New York. “There is a complete whodunit mystery as to how the government came into possession of the Bitcoin.” Now, a case underway in Brooklyn federal court may finally force the government to provide some answers. Dozens of parties are asserting rights to the over 127,000 seized Bitcoin, including people who say they or their family members were victims of terrorist attacks and claim that the tokens were mined in Iran. Even Chen, the man prosecutors accuse of the crimes that generated the Bitcoin in the first place, is claiming the coins and arguing that the US must come clean on how it got them. The fight over the crypto, which is playing out in publicly in hundreds of court filings, will eventually be settled by a federal judge. Just like the criminal case against Chen, whom US prosecutors have charged with wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering (he denies all charges), the showdown over the seized Bitcoin is global in scope. How it gets resolved could have a lasting impact on crypto-crime fighting. Read more: The Tycoon Who Had a Secret Life as an Alleged Scam Kingpin The Bitcoin forfeiture is the biggest in American history. The coins were originally held by an entity which, according to the US, had operations in China and Iran. They represent the proceeds from a criminal group that trafficked workers from across Asia, housed them in compounds in Cambodia and forced them to...
