peshkov A Broadcom ( AVGO ) executive said its manufacturing partner Taiwan Semiconductor ( TSM ) is reaching capacity limits and the industry is facing broader supply chain constraints amid surging demand for AI chips, Reuters reported. "We are seeing that TSMC is hitting (production capacity) limits," Natarajan Ramachandran, director of product marketing in Broadcom's ( AVGO ) Physical Layer Products division, told reporters on Tuesday. "They will be increasing the capacity to 2027, but that has become a bottleneck, or that has kind of choked the supply chain in 2026," he added. Ramachandran noted that there is a supply constraint in the laser space even though there are multiple suppliers, and printed circuit boards also emerged as an "unexpected" bottleneck, resulting in longer lead times. Many customers are entering long-term agreements with suppliers to secure capacity commitments for as long as 3-4 years, he said . TSMC ( TSM ) in January said the engagement lead time with customers was at least 2-3 years in advance. Its CEO C.C. Wei said capacity was "very tight" and the company was speeding up capacity expansion in Taiwan and Arizona to meet AI demand. "We work very hard to narrow the gap so far," he added . "Probably this year, next year, we have to work extremely hard to narrow the gap." TSMC ( TSM ) is the largest contract chipmaker, producing about 90% of the world's most advanced chips. Its major customers include Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Apple ( AAPL ). Samsung's ( SSNLF ) Co-CEO Jun Young-hyun recently said it was working with major customers to shift to contracts of 3-5 years from the current quarterly or annual pacts, as this would even out the peaks and troughs of the volatile industry. Practices must publish price lists, cap prescription fees and reveal if they are part of a large group, watchdog says Business live – latest updates The UK’s competition watchdog has ordered vets to cap prescription fees at £21 and proposed a price comparison website, after finding consumers had faced huge price rises and been “left in the dark” over bills. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said public satisfaction with the cost of services was “low” after an investigation into the £6.3bn market found “there is not strong competition between veterinary businesses”, with large chains dominant. France ’s largest business lobby, Medef, doesn’t see inflation surging because of the Iran war, the organization’s chief said on Tuesday. “Our expectation is that there won’t be an explosion of inflation, but there will be less growth and inflation that could be increased by a few tenths of a point, depending on the circumstances,” Patrick Martin said on BFM Business. Policymakers are watching carefully for signs of price pressures taking hold in Europe as energy costs soar. With fast-changing risks of escalation of the Iran conflict, trader bets on interest-rate increases from central banks to counter inflation have also swung sharply. In France, Martin said Medef is more concerned about interest rates as the business group considers public finances to be in a “grave” state. Still, he welcomed government plans to ease cash-flow pressures for companies in sectors such as transport by delaying tax bills. “There is no money left in the cash register,” he said. “We need to help these sectors, farmers hit by fuel costs, but it needs to be cash-flow measures, we can’t go further than that.” ECB Must Be Vigilant in Face of Stagflation Risks, Vujcic Says French Govt Announces Support Measures for Transport Sector ECB’s Radev Sees Some Indications of Second-Round Effects: CNBC

Photo: IC photo Ten days after Iran established a de facto “safe” shipping corridor through its territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz, the first Chinese-owned cargo vessel has successfully navigated the newly forged passage, Caixin has learned. In the early hours of March 23, the Panama-flagged container ship Newvoyager took the route between Iran’s Larak and Qeshm islands for a transit, bypassing traditional shipping lanes through the strait. The vessel, owned by a shipping company based in China’s Anhui province, broadcasted its status as “China Owner” through its automatic identification system during the transit.

SK Hynix Inc. plans to spend 11.9 trillion won ($7.9 billion) on cutting-edge extreme ultraviolet lithography chipmaking tools from ASML Holding NV , deepening a push into next-generation memory to sate quickening AI demand. The order — valid through 2027 — marks one of the largest of its kind, underscoring how chipmakers are racing to secure the EUV gear essential to mass-producing the world’s most sophisticated semiconductors. SK Hynix’s decision reflects the intensifying competition with Samsung Electronics Co. to supply the most advanced memory required for Nvidia Corp . AI accelerators. EUV machines can cost hundreds of millions of dollars apiece and are critical for advanced DRAM and high-bandwidth memory. Other major buyers of ASML’s gear include Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. For ASML, the deal reinforces its central role in the global chip industry. The company is the sole supplier of EUV systems, making its order book a key indicator of where advanced semiconductor production is headed. The Dutch company declined to comment. The purchase highlights a broader trend: as AI reshapes computing, capital spending is shifting sharply toward the most advanced manufacturing tools, with leading players locking up supply years in advance.
