Robinhood (HOOD) is launching a stocks & shares individual savings account (ISA) for its UK customers, offering an initial 2% cash bonus on eligible contributions. The investment platform said on Monday that it would begin rolling out the ISA to UK customers this week, with broad availability soon after. Through the ISA, Robinhood said that UK customers will be able to access around 5,000 US-listed stocks and American depositary receipts (ADRs) with no platform fees and no commissions. Customers will pay a 0.1% foreign exchange (FX) fee per trade during US FX market hours. In addition, Robinhood (HOOD) said that customers will be able to earn 2% back on new eligible ISA contributions when they fund their account before 5 April 2026. The contributions will have to be held for a year for customers to keep the full cash bonus. Customers will be able to use Robinhood's Cortex Digest tool, which uses generative AI to provide real-time context on stock movements. At least three people have died and nearly 30,000 people have been affected by flooding after Madagascar’s first tropical storm of the season hit over the weekend. India is seeking to merge two of its biggest power utility lenders to help unlock investments worth hundreds of billions in the nation’s energy sector. The government plans to integrate Power Finance Corp. Ltd. and its unit REC Ltd. that are currently competing in the debt market, a senior official told reporters on Monday asking to remain anonymous as the information isn’t public. India’s ambition to rapidly electrify its economy will require $450 billion over the next seven years to build new power plants, transmission lines, and energy storage systems, according to Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal. The nation’s per-capita electricity consumption, currently at a third of the global average, is expected to triple by 2047, he said, aligning with the government’s goal to reach developed nation status by that time. “Combining the two lenders will give them a size and scale that will help them borrow at lower costs and meet the growing funding needs of the power sector,” said Deven Choksey , managing director at DRChoksey FinServ. Still, the plan is fraught with challenges and reforms will be needed for the combination to succeed, according to Praveen Kumar Singh, an industry expert and a former director at Power Finance. Indian banks cannot lend more than a certain percentage of their capital to a single borrower. After the merger the new company would be able to borrow half of what the two entities could have separately accessed, according to Singh. Thai police have arrested two Russians on suspicion of murdering a fellow national after the victim’s dismembered body was found in scrubland near the resort town of Pattaya, a “heinous” crime detectives believe is linked to debts to criminals. Body parts of the 30-year-old victim, Mikhail Emelianov, were found on Sunday scattered across a section of abandoned land just outside the eastern tourist city renowned for its large Russian expatriate community. Police arrested Iaroslav Demidov, 35, and Dmitrii Maskalev, 38, in a Bangkok hotel later on Sunday, accusing them of carrying out the murder and grisly disposal of the body. Both denied the allegations.
