Jordan Siemens/DigitalVision via Getty Images Introduction I 'm about to turn 31 this month, which means I 'm many decades away from the legal retirement age in my country. And, to be honest, I don 't have any goals to retire. While I could retire early, I have to say that even on days when I'm technically not very busy, I still find ways to work on my business and related things. That 's why I often joke that if someone were to wire me $50 million, I would do exactly what I'm doing right now, except from a different location and with a fancy car. I would keep my Casio, though. As much as I love luxury watches, mine is back in the drawer, as I recently bought a new cheap Casio, the best watch I've ever owned. It 's more accurate than a $500,000 Patek, has more functionalities than a Jacob & Co., and never runs out of juice (solar). But I digress. I still think a lot about retirement. Especially since AI became a thing, I knew that my industry was about to change in a very meaningful way. That's one of the reasons I often tell young people to invest every penny they can spare. Job security is a thing of the past, even if the disruption is slow. I don 't think anyone under the age of 60 has ever experienced this kind of change in the labor market. Here's the University of Michigan "expected change in employment" component of the consumer sentiment report: University of Michigan Although I feel that I 'm in a good spot now due to my business, relationships, and general way of dealing with the stock market and disruption, I'm always working on a plan B to build a portfolio that protects my family and me in case it 's ever required. The other reason is that many of my readers and subscribers are retired. They have very different goals than I do, which I obviously address, often with a Big Picture approach, as I don 't analyze a stock before I know exactly where I should look for value (that 's the top-down approach). In this article, I 'm going to tell you how I 'm prepa...

Eight-five percent of covering analysts say to buy the stock right now, and the lowest price target from any Wall Street analyst suggests a 9% upside over the next year. One analyst, Hector Maya from Scotiabank, sees it heading to $2,800, a 72% increase from today's price. Is he right? MercadoLibre hasn't taken a break from high growth for years. It's an e-commerce and financial technology (fintech) company in Latin America, a region that's underpenetrated in both sectors, and it's benefiting as the countries it serves continue to embrace new technology. The company is clearly trying to make an example of the author who wrote about her time at the company. Her free speech should be protected This year’s Hay festival concluded with a strange spectacle. I was on a panel about the dangers of excessive tech power, alongside former Meta employee Sarah Wynn-Williams – who sat without saying anything on the advice of her lawyer. She had been silenced by Meta’s legal threats to bankrupt her if she spoke. Wynn-Williams has written a book, Careless People , about her time at Meta (then Facebook), where she was an early director of global public policy. In the tradition of such books (usually written by former government officials), it is in parts flattering, more often critical and, above all, insightful. Prof Tim Wu is professor at Columbia University Law School and the author of The Age of Extraction: How Tech Platforms Conquered the Economy and Threaten Our Future Prosperity Continue reading...

Florian Wiegand | Getty Images News | Getty Images Global stock markets edged higher on Tuesday, marking a tentative recovery from a bout of volatility led by an aggressive sell-off in global technology names. Friday saw U.S. equities come under pressure, led by a sharp downward turn in chip stocks. The negative momentum bled into Asian trade, while European tech stocks also took a beating. It came after a downbeat earnings report from Broadcom sparked a rotation out of AI-linked stocks. By Tuesday, global shares appeared to be recovering from the sell-off. U.S. stock futures were last seen trading broadly higher, with futures tied to the tech-dominated Nasdaq 100 adding 0.7%. European tech stocks were on track for their second consecutive day of gains, with the regional Stoxx 600 Technology index clawing back a fraction of the losses incurred on Friday, while South Korea's tech-heavy Kospi index jumped more than 8% on Tuesday following two days of losses. 'Volatility is the price of admission' Although many investors remain bullish on equities, there are expectations of more turbulence on the ride to greater returns. Robert Edwards, Chief Investment Officer at Florida-based Edwards Asset Management, said in a note that the tech stock pullback was "a gift for investors." "We remain buyers on the dips," he said, describing market movements as a "sawtooth pattern." "Sharp pullbacks have been met with aggressive buying because investors, despite the noise, know that strong fundamentals, including strong revenue and earnings growth, remain in place," he said. "This is what bull markets in their prime look like, featuring violent moves higher and lower, which can be uncomfortable, but the overall trend is upward." Edwards Asset Management, which manages assets worth ...

Erik Isakson/DigitalVision via Getty Images Thesis Sound operations and increasing service demand make WESCO International ( WCC ) an appealing equity. The price has moved over the past year, but it is firmly in the hold category for investors who have yet to take a profit. For buyers, there is a chance to squeeze out additional value. That will demand a longer timeline and evidence that the project pipeline in two of its growing business sectors continues while margins are maintained. Equity returns of over 100 percent in the last year have put it near analyst price targets. The annual $2 dividend currently yields 0.55% at the time of writing. Other multiples show it as a fairly valued company trading at almost 25x earnings (LTM), 3.5 book value, and 0.7 times sales. Halving each of those multiples is where it was at YE2024, and at that time, there was a significant amount of upside potential. The best indicator of its fair value is insider selling totaling over $16 million in May of 2026. The move is to wait and take profits or risk an investment with only a small potential return over the next 18 months. Business summary The business segments Wesco International operates in are many. It breaks down into three parts. The first is Electrical and Electronic Solutions (EES), where they supply hardware like lighting, wiring, and electrical parts to commercial and industrial customers. The second is the Communications and Security Solutions (CSS) business, which provides services to companies that need network hardware or public service buildings needing a range of security systems. The final is the Utility and Broadband Solutions (UBS) segment, focused on supplying electrical utility companies with grid equipment and wireless network hardware to wireless carriers. On paper, it can look complex, although it is a company that is a one-stop shop for major industries looking to supply electrical and digital infrastructure projects. From the brief description, the (UBS) se...

tadamichi Vertical Aerospace ( EVTL ) announced on Tuesday that its latest and final full-scale prototype of its hybrid-electric Valo aircraft has completed its first piloted flight at the company's UK Flight Test Centre. Test pilot Paul Stone conducted the maiden flight on June 5 following recent milestones, including thrustborne and two-way transition flights completed with earlier prototypes under civil aviation authority oversight. The new aircraft is identical to Vertical Aerospace's ( EVTL ) existing full-scale prototype and will be used to accelerate flight testing across all phases, including thrustborne, wingborne, and transition flight, while also supporting future public demonstrations. Notably, the prototype is the last to be built before the company's "Critical Design Review," which will freeze the certifiable aircraft configuration and pave the way for the assembly of its first pre-production aircraft. Vertical Aerospace ( EVTL ) sees the achievement as a key step toward certification and eventual commercial deployment of its Valo hybrid-electric regional air mobility platform, which is designed to offer lower emissions, reduced noise, and improved economics compared with conventional aircraft. "Getting our latest prototype into flight testing is an important milestone because it allows us to learn faster in real-world conditions and keep building momentum towards certification. Expanding the flight test fleet will help us validate the aircraft more quickly, reduce risk, and move more efficiently towards bringing Valo into service," highlighted CEO Stuart Simpson. Shares of Vertical Aerospace ( EVTL ) were up 1.4% in premarket trading. More on Vertical Aerospace Vertical Aerospace Ltd. Jelly and coffee maker JM Smucker Co. posted fourth-quarter profits that beat Wall Street expectations as higher prices helped boost the packaged food company. Smucker reported adjusted earnings per share of $2.77, topping the average of analyst estimates. Fourth-quarter revenue also outpaced expectations. The company said its net sales for the quarter benefited from an increase in coffee and sweet baked goods prices. Smucker, like other packaged food companies, is contending with financially-strapped consumers spending carefully as both the cost of food and gas have risen. The company previously raised its prices on coffee several times after tariffs caused the cost of coffee beans to surge. Chief Executive Officer Mark Smucker has said the company is working on cutting costs and stabilizing the Hostess brand, which it acquired in 2023. The company set its 2027 full-year profit outlook above expectations, forecasting adjusted earnings in a range between $9.75 and $10.25. Smucker said it expected to reduce prices next year, as the company passes through lower costs on green coffee to consumers. In late February, the company said two new directors were joining its board as part of an agreement reached with activist investor Elliott Investment Management . Shares of Smucker rose as much as 5.2% in premarket trading. The stock had increased roughly 4% this year through Monday’s close, compared with an 8.2% increase in the S&P 500 Index.
