Robert Way/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Kraken's ( KRAKEN ) chief security officer said a criminal group threatened to release videos of the crypto exchange's internal systems with client data shown if it doesn't comply with the group's demands. " It’s important to start with the most important points," Nick Percoco said in a post on X. "Our systems were never breached; funds were never at risk; we will not pay these criminals; we will not ever negotiate with bad actors." The company identified and shut down two instances of inappropriate access to limited client support data, he added. One occurred in February 2025, and the other occurred "more recently," he said. In both cases, the company identified the individual involved and terminated their access. The first occurrence involved a member of Kraken's support team, Percoco said. Soon after access was terminated, Kraken ( KRAKEN ) started receiving extortion demands, he said, though he didn't indicate the amount the group was demanding. The company has been collaborating with industry partners and law enforcement to investigate and disrupt insider recruitment efforts targeting not only crypto companies but also gaming and telecommunications organizations, according to the post. "We will not pay these criminals," Percoco said. Furthermore, the company believes it has enough evidence to identify and arrest those responsible. Across both incidents, only about 2,000 accounts in total were viewed, or 0.02% of Kraken's ( KRAKEN ) clients. The holders of those accounts have already been notified, the company said. Now, with oil prices spiking due to the war in Iran and uncertainty in the Middle East, there's even more of an incentive for shoppers to go to their local Costco warehouses to save money. For Costco, that can potentially create a domino effect where shoppers fill up on gas and, while they're nearby, also load up on essentials. And recently, the company released its latest sales numbers, which seemed to indicate that traffic has indeed been rising. Image source: Getty Images. Continue reading

Welcome To The Theater Of The Absurd Authored by Charles Hugh Smith via OfTwoMinds blog, The real world no longer matters, what matters is the performance on stage. Welcome to the Theater of the Absurd. In the present era, all the world is a stage and everything is a performance on that stage: welcome to the Theater of the Absurd , a Hollywood set fabricated of cardboard and plaster made to look like gold leaf and marble columns, where the contraptions and ropes that do the magic are hidden behind purple velvet drapery. Every detail has been designed to create the illusion of permanence and power to rivet our attention and distract us from noticing that behind this faux fabrication, the world is on fire. Since the entire point of the theatrics is to cloak the decay of the status quo from serving shared interests to a craven scramble of self-enrichment, no expense is spared in the theatrics , for as the gulf between the reality of who's getting richer and who's losing ground and what the performers claim-- this is the best of all possible worlds because of technology and Progress --widens, it becomes necessary to pour more resources into the performances, lest the losers catch on that the performance is the con that keeps the self-serving status quo from being revealed as an extractive, exploitive arrangement favoring the few. As the audience is no longer entranced by mere performance, the theatrics must be ramped up to absurd heights. Leaders shout continually through the megaphone of social media, every pronouncement is exaggerated to self-parody, jokers prance around as Wall Street jugglers perform tricks, and faux trials run continuously in the background, exiling star performers as part of the enthralling theatrics. The audience soon habituates to the exaggerations, and so the absurdity is notched higher. Every outrage is played out on stage, and soon the audience is no longer outraged by anything, for every aspect of the performance is now accepted as "normal."...

Diana ( DSX ), which already owns 14.8% of Genco ( GNK ), said Genco's board has refused to engage with it for five months despite submitting two takeover proposals and described what it called the company's "deliberate pattern of entrenchment designed to preserve roles and executive compensation at the expense of shareholders." The company pointed to $1.43B in committed funding from six banks, maintaining there is no execution risk and that the offer gives shareholders immediate liquidity at a strong point in the cycle as dry bulk asset prices remain near 15-year highs. Genco ( GNK ) has repeatedly rejected Diana's ( DSX ) approach, saying it undervalues the business and fails to reflect its long-term upside. Diana ( DSX ) shares closed Monday's trading up 4.1%, while Genco ( GNK ) gained 2.8%. NZXT announced Flex in August 2024, saying that it would charge customers $59 to $169 a month to rent an NZXT gaming desktop (as of this writing, Flex prices are $79 to $279 per month. At the time, NZXT said that the PCs would be “new or like new.” Subscribers had the option to receive an upgraded rental PC every two years. The program was met with criticism. Renting a PC can quickly become more costly than buying one, depending on the rental, and YouTube channel Gamers Nexus claimed in November 2024 that customers received less powerful components than expected and that NZXT advertised the rental PCs with inaccurate benchmark results. There was also concern about what NZXT did with customer data left on returned computers. Read full article Comments
