The urgent need for oil and for tankers pushed up freight prices dramatically in the first weeks and prompted a flotilla of tankers to head to Yanbu — but as more make their way, that is now easing. The Sea Leopard, a 2011-built very large crude carrier, was fixed on Tuesday at 190 industry-standard Worldscale points to pick up an early April cargo from Yanbu to South Korea, reports from brokers show. The charterer had received nearly 10 offers for its cargo, with one shipowner bidding for WS100, before the voyage was agreed at WS190, they said. Worldscale is a pricing system allowing shipowners to calculate vessel earnings and oil companies to estimate their costs when negotiating rates.
