The move comes as companies increasingly shift manufacturing and critical supply chains to the United States to reduce geopolitical risks and strengthen domestic production. The expansion builds on Apple's $600 billion, four-year commitment to invest in U.S. manufacturing announced last year.

Welcome to our guide to the commodities driving the global economy. Today, power reporter Naureen Malik reports from CERAWeek on the impact of the Middle East war on the data-center industry and its plans for expansion. US tech giants have flocked to the Persian Gulf in recent years to take advantage of the region’s ample cheap energy and real estate. But drone strikes on data centers in countries including Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are starting to force a rethink on where they locate their critical infrastructure. Executives at the CERAWeek by S&P Global conference in Houston broached the issue this week, and suggested that persistent volatility in the Middle East may drive new data-hub projects elsewhere, including to the US. “If your plan was to put all your data centers in the Gulf states, recent events might suggest that that’s not a great long-term secure strategy,” said Larry Coben , the outgoing boss of Texas-based power producer NRG Energy Inc . On the face of it, the prospective shift sounds like good news for power companies in America. In sharp contrast to much of the world, US natural gas prices remain stable, potentially aiding efforts to attract new energy-hungry data hubs. Indeed, more gas-fired generation is already under construction to meet surging demand. But while data centers offer the biggest opportunity for the US power industry in decades, they also pose the biggest threat. The country’s grids are already under severe stress from age and extreme weather. Now, network operators are scrambling to line up extra capacity to meet soaring consumption from tech hubs, all while facing government demands to keep energy affordable . As far as the Gulf investment case is concerned, much may depend on the duration of the current war, its outcomes and the continued efforts of governments there to lure big projects. The industry there may still flourish, but computing capacity has clearly become a legitimate wartime target. Server farms a...

As the Artemis II crew prepare for the first moon mission since 1972, we select the best songs about our lunar neighbour, from Ella Fitzgerald’s romance to Gil Scott-Heron’s social commentary This tribute to comedian Andy Kaufman came at the height of REM’s superstardom, but it’s a typically elliptical song that defies easy analysis, the chorus seeming to compare the moon landing conspiracy theories with claims Kaufman faked his own death. Its bassline recalls another lunar classic, The Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen. Continue reading...

The country’s light, crisp, fruity wines are giving its more famous styles a run for their money Portuguese wines have been making steady advances on British drinkers in recent years, and for good reason. The country is home to many delightful indigenous grapes ( bom dia baga, encantado encruzado), as well as the sort of varied maritime, mountainous terrain that encourages personality. Its winemakers tend to be forward-thinking and climate-conscious, too, and there are lots of bottles of interest at the “midweek” price point – that is, £8-£13. Case in point: the “yellow tram wine”, AKA Porta 6 Lisboa , is now a ubiquitous presence on our high streets. While Portugal is often associated with sturdy reds and Christmassy digestifs, it also excels at light, crisp, appetite-whetting whites. As we all know, there is no finer moment in the day than aperitivo , that elusive hour when deadlines and bedtimes recede mid the pssscht of bottles and the crack and tinkle of ice (the fact that this almost never actually happens only heightens the pleasure when it does). And Portuguese whites are tailor-made for such moments; if you also have some pretty tins of Nuri sardinhas on the go, so much the better. Continue reading...

EschCollection/DigitalVision via Getty Images Investment Thesis Credo Technology (NASDAQ: CRDO ) stock is down over 50% from its all-time high, primarily due to investors’ concerns about the company’s revenue concentration. Credo needs to prove that it can expand its product portfolio in order for investors to value the company with higher multiples. Based on the company’s management statements and considering its leading position in Active Electrical Cables (AEC), the risk-reward profile appears moderately attractive at current price levels. However, I suggest that investors remain patient and wait until the Q1 2027 results – meaning two additional quarters – before opening a position. Credo: A Growth Company with Impressive Financial CRDO reported impressive revenue and profitability results. Despite that the company is in a growth phase, it has zero bank debt and achieved over 200% YoY revenue growth in Q3 2026, along with a 68.6% gross margin, up 480 bps from 63.8% in Q3 2025 and up 90 bps from 67.7% in Q2 2026. Q3’26 News Release CRDO’s operating margin stood at 49.6% in Q3 2026, which is a significant improvement compared to 31.4% in Q3 2025, while net income margin increased from 21.7% in Q3 2025 to 38.6% in Q3 2026. CRDO recognizes $31.8M in remaining performance obligation (RPO) and expects to recognize them over the next 12 months, while it holds about $1.3B in cash, which reflects a strong liquidity position to meet its short lease liabilities of $1.3M. Q3’26 News Release Overall, I see that CRDO has a healthy financial position, zero bank debt, and strong revenue and profitability growth. Notably, the fact that CRDO’s net income margin is at similar levels to its well-established main peers of Broadcom ( AVGO ) and Marvell ( MRVL ), along with superior profit margins compared to Astera Labs ( ALAB ), while the company continues to improve its FCF position, ending with $139.7M in Q3 2026, up more than $100M from the previous quarter. Sonos Inc. is back doing what it does best: putting out high-quality Wi-Fi speakers that look nice, sound good and work best together as a system. The company, which took a long break from consumer hardware announcements after a botched software update upended its business, recently unveiled its first major new products in over a year: the $299 Sonos Play portable speaker and the $189 Era 100 SL, which hits a lower price by forgoing built-in microphones. Sonos played it safe with both devices, but a return to its roots was exactly the point after such a turbulent couple of years. The two products reflect the direction that Chief Executive Officer Tom Conrad , who assumed the top job last summer after an interim trial run, wants to take. As he sees it, the company’s bread and butter is its whole-home platform, where all of the interconnected audio products are greater than the sum of their parts. The goal, he has said, is to get existing Sonos customers to add even more speakers and soundbars to their collection. I’ve been testing the Play and Era 100 SL for several weeks, and while both are solid performers in their own right — the former is Sonos’ best portable speaker yet — they are even better when combined with the company’s other gear. Read More: How Sonos CEO Tom Conrad Is Reshaping the Audio Brand After App Disaster Sonos Play Across its different product lines, Sonos often takes a “good, better, best” approach. Among the company’s portable Bluetooth speakers, the Play occupies that middle lane, with a price and feature set that puts it between the smaller Roam 2 ($179) and the larger Move 2 ($499). For most people, it’s going to be the best pick of the three. At 2.87 pounds, the Play is certainly easier to throw into a backpack or suitcase than the 6.61-pound Move 2. The latter only qualifies as “portable” in the sense that you can lug it to a different room of the house or out to the back patio, but it’s simply too hefty and big to routinely carry anywhere ...
