Wealth management and tax planning companies fell on Tuesday after privately held financial software provider Altruist Corp. launched an AI tool that creates tax strategies for clients, generating concerns for other companies. Among the top decliners were LPL Financial Holdings ( LPLA ) -9.6%, The Charles Schwab Corp. ( SCHW ) -8.7%, Raymond James Financial ( RJF ) -8.6%, Stifel Financial ( SF ) -4.9%, and Piper Sandler Companies ( PIPR ) -4.1%. “The selloff appears tied to broader concerns about AI disrupting the financial advice and wealth management model,” said Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Neil Sipes. These declines are “likely centering on concerns around efficiencies being competed away, fee compression long-term, and potential market share shifts,” he added. is a senior reporter who’s been covering and reviewing the latest gadgets and tech since 2006, but has loved all things electronic since he was a kid. Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. The earliest backers of Sharge’s latest Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign can preorder the power bank for $149, while its full price is expected to be closer to $199 once delivery starts as early as May 2026. Inside the Shargeek 300 is a 24,000 mAh battery that can be fully recharged in 75 minutes using a 140W charger. The power bank is roughly the size of a soda can, but a bit taller at 6.25 inches long. Image: Sharge As the name implies, the Shargeek 300’s total output is 300W which is shared across two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, and a barrel-style DC port. Both USB-C ports can output up to 140W letting you simultaneously charge two power-hungry laptops while a third device pulls 20W from the USB-A port. The output of the DC port can be adjusted from as little as 25W up to 140W. The Shargeek 300 features a lightweight aluminum alloy frame wrapped in an aluminum shell that helps to dissipate heat. There’s also two cutaway sections, protected by transparent plastic windows, revealing some of the power bank’s electronics and a 1.9-inch screen on one side, and the batteries on the other. You can use the screen to monitor the battery’s charge level, power output, temperature, and adjust the DC output voltage. The exposed interior is also illuminated with RGB LEDs whose color, brightness, and function can be customized using the display.

Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie released the first surveillance images on Tuesday showing a masked person on her porch the night she went missing, as law enforcement and her family intensified calls for public help more than a week into the search. Law enforcement searching for the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie has not identified any suspects or persons of interest, and it is unclear if she is still alive. FBI Director Kash Patel posted the images on social media. Advertisement “The video was recovered from residual data located in back end systems,” Patel wrote, saying the images show “an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance”. Video released by the FBI shows the person wearing a backpack, long sleeves and pants walk up to the door and try to conceal a camera with a glove before turning around, grabbing some plants and then putting them in front of the camera. The FBI is seeking information on the identity of this individual seen at Nancy Guthrie’s front door. Photo: FBI via TNS Investigators had been hopeful that cameras at the home would turn up some evidence about how she went missing, but the doorbell camera was disconnected early on Sunday.

Malinowski concedes to Mejia in Democratic House special primary in New Jersey toggle caption Alex Wong/Getty Images Former congressman Tom Malinowski conceded Tuesday to challenger Analilia Mejia in the closely watched Democratic special election U.S. House primary to fill New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill's vacated congressional seat. "I congratulate Analilia Mejia on her hard won victory in the NJ-11 special primary. I look forward to supporting her in the April general election," Malinowski said in a statement. The Associated Press has not yet made a call in the race. Last Thursday, Mejia led by a narrow margin as polls closed in the district. Some mail-in ballots remain to be counted. The Democratic nominee will face Randolph Township Mayor Joe Hathaway, the only Republican to run, in April's special general election to replace now-Gov. Mikie Sherrill. Sherrill resigned from her seat shortly after winning the gubernatorial race last November. Sponsor Message The special primary contest is one of the first elections in the 2026 midterm cycle where Democrats hope to capitalize on voter dissatisfaction with President Trump's second-term agenda. After losing the White House and the Senate in 2024, the party earned numerous victories in special elections and saw a surge of support in the 2025 November general election, including Sherrill's landslide victory. Malinowski's comeback bid was supported by New Jersey Sen. Andy Kim, who touted the two-term congressman's experience. "Tom Malinowski knows the House of Representatives. He knows Congress. He knows New Jersey," Kim said in a video. "He knows how to be able to stand up to Donald Trump, and that's what I need right now is someone there as a partner with me in the Capitol." Malinowski represented a neighboring congressional seat from 2018-2022, but lost to Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr. after redistricting added more Republicans into his district. Malinowski's prior experience in Congress was an important factor in the...

ISerg/iStock via Getty Images The last time I spoke about Krystal Biotech ( KRYS ), it was with respect to a Seeking Alpha article entitled " Krystal Biotech: A Strong Buy Despite KB707 Melanoma Tumor Targeting Update ." With respect to this article, I noted that the company had put a pause on work on advancing its phase 1/2 OPAL study, which was using KB707 for the treatment of patients with advanced melanoma. The company has since shifted its focus towards developing inhaled gene therapy KB707 for the treatment of patients with advanced [2nd-line] non-small cell lung cancer [NSCLC]. Today I'm going to go over this program again, but I also want to highlight that there was a major update since I last spoke about this company. Just the other day the FDA granted KB707 as an inhaled gene therapy Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy [RMAT] designation for the treatment of these patients with advanced or metastatic NSCLC. The reason why this designation was given was on the basis of clinical data from the phase 1/2 KYANITE-1 study, which evaluated the use of this inhaled IL-12/IL-2 cytokine therapy to treat these patients. More about the latest RMAT designation below, but just know that the company obtains the benefits of both FDA Fast Track Designation [FTD] and Breakthrough Therapy Designation [BTD]. Besides this, another update is that the company spoke with the FDA in an end-of-phase 2 [EOP2] meeting, and the outcome was highly positive. The reason why is because it was noted that a single registrational trial using inhaled KB707 in combination with chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone to treat patients with advanced NSCLC would be enough to allow for a regulatory filing. The company is expected to provide an interim analysis in the 2nd half of 2026 from the registrational cohort added to the phase 1/2 KYANITE-1 study. In addition, that is when it is expected to also provide an update on its registrational plans. As far as VYJUVEK goes in terms of sales, it is g...

Ravitaliy/iStock via Getty Images Brief Overview Metals have shone bright not only over the past year but also on a year-to-date basis, in spite of the flash crash or sharp pullback seen in the past couple of days. The returns of the metals pack are as follows over the last year and YTD: Metal (ETF) Price (Feb. 5 '26) NAV (Feb. 5 '26) 1-yr return YTD return Gold ( PHYS ) $37.31 $38.56 +71.46% +11.61% Silver ( PSLV ) $24.92 $26.64 +136.21% +0.56% Copper ( CPER ) $36.24 $36.17 +29.01% +3.66% Platinum ( PLTM ) $20.23 $19.74 +110.51% +2.53% Palladium ( PALL ) $154.89 $153.68 +72.48% +6.54% Click to enlarge The bull market over the last couple of years has been driven by several factors—higher demand for metals because of their use in high-growth industries such as AI or green energy and strong central bank demand, as is the case for gold, combined with supply-side constraints for metals such as copper and silver. Another major reason for the rise in metal prices is the ‘debasement trade’—essentially a bet that governments and central banks will go to any length to avoid recessions and spur growth and continue to pursue expansionary economic policies even in non-recessionary periods. There are said to be several factors that contributed to the flash crash—deleveraging of participants playing metals via leveraged instruments such as futures and the rebalancing of the leveraged ETFs forcing selling in metals, especially in silver ( AGQ ). The trigger was said to be the nomination of Kevin Warsh to the post of Federal Reserve Chairman, who is said to be a monetary policy ‘ hawk’ in favor of smaller balance sheets and higher interest rates. Let’s discuss all these things in detail, and allow me to explain to you why the market has severely overreacted and why this would be a great buying opportunity for new investors into precious metals or for long-time investors to add here. In this article, the focus will be on gold and silver, while I will try to cover industrial metals ...

Alexey_Fedoren/iStock via Getty Images Last week, I had the privilege of attending the 2026 Harvard Presidents’ Seminar alongside some of the nation’s top executives and thought leaders. One of the most compelling speakers was Ambassador Kevin Rudd, former prime minister of Australia. Rudd spoke with clarity and, yes, concern about the shape of the world we’re heading into. The post-World War II, rules-based order—the one that gave us globalization, multilateralism, NATO, the World Trade Organization ( WTO ), etc.—is likely over. What comes next appears to be a return to 19th-century-style governance, characterized by “might makes right” and spheres of influence. I wouldn’t call Rudd a doomsayer. He’s more of a realist who believes, as I do, that a strong U.S. is good for the world. Conversely, a weak U.S. creates dangerous power vacuums that China and Russia are all too eager to fill. U.S. Global Investors A New World (Dis)order? During the 80-year period following World War II, the U.S. took a dominant role in shaping global norms, from open markets and free trade to the expansion of democracy and the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency. We enjoyed relative peace. That era, Rudd suggests, may be coming to an end. Democracy appears to be in decline across the globe, while the number of armed conflicts is at its highest level since World War II . UCDP/PRIO Armed Conflict Database China and Russia aren’t hiding their ambitions. Just last week, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin affirmed their deepening ties, pledging mutual support on economic, military, and ideological fronts. And with the expiration of the New START treaty this month, the last vestige of nuclear arms control between the U.S. and Russia is gone. Rewriting the Rules Rudd, author of two major books on Xi, warned us that the current Chinese leader is no pragmatist in the vein of Deng Xiaoping, the former leader who jumpstarted the country’s ascendancy in the 1970s through meaningful market reform. I...

A daughter reexamines her own family story in 'The Mixed Marriage Project' toggle caption Cris Crisman/Simon & Schuster; Courtesy of Dorothy Roberts Almost a decade after her father's death, legal scholar Dorothy Roberts still had 25 boxes of his research that she had yet to sort through. When she moved from Chicago to Philadelphia, she brought the boxes — and finally opened them. Roberts' father, Robert Roberts, was a white anthropologist who spent his career at Roosevelt University in Chicago. The boxes contained transcripts of nearly 500 interviews he had conducted with interracial couples across the city, including interviews with couples who were married in the late 1800s, all the way to couples who are married in 1960s. "They were absolutely fascinating," Roberts says of the transcripts. "I learned so much about the racial caste system in Chicago, the Color Line, the Black Belt." Sponsor Message Initially, Roberts saw the project as a chance to finish her father's work, but as she examined the documents, she learned more about her own family — including the fact that her mother Iris, a Black Jamaican immigrant, had assisted in her husband's research. "When I got to the 1950s interviews, I discovered that my mother was conducting all the interviews of the wives, while my father conducted the interviews for the husbands," Roberts says. "Finding out that my mother was involved ... created curiosity I had about my family, about their marriage, and then I began to think about how it related to me and my identity as a Black girl with a white father." In her new book, The Mixed Marriage Project: A Memoir of Love, Race, and Family, Roberts dives into her parents' research, and her surprise at learning that she was included as participant number 224 in the files. She also shares her own thoughts on interracial relationships. "My father thought that interracial intimacy was the instrument to end racism, and I think it's really flipped the other way," she says. "We end r...

(Bloomberg) — Walt Disney Co. (DIS) is selling $4 billion of investment-grade notes, its first deal since 2020, joining a record rush of activity as companies lock in lower borrowing premiums. Tuesday’s offering is in four parts, according to a person familiar with the matter. Pricing on the longest part of the deal — a bond maturing in 2036 — tightened to 0.58 percentage point above Treasuries, down from initial talk of around 0.85 percentage point. Proceeds will go toward general corporate purposes, and the deal is expected to price today. Disney is likely to use the cash mainly to repay debt and aid “liquidity for increased shareholder returns and strategic investments,” according to Bloomberg Intelligence. The company has $2.6 billion of bonds and loans due the rest of this year, data compiled by Bloomberg shows. The firm in 2023 unveiled a $60 billion, 10-year investment effort that includes nearly doubling its ship fleet and opening its first theme park in the Middle East. Disney announced last week that the head of its theme parks, cruise ships and consumer-products division will replace Bob Iger as chief executive officer next month. The change comes at a critical time for the company, as the parent of ABC and ESPN deals with the media industry’s shift to the streaming era. The bond sale is among eight in the US investment-grade market Tuesday marketing a total of $11.3 billion, coming a day after Alphabet Inc. raised $20 billion from a debt offering that generated more than $100 billion of demand. BNP Paribas SA, Citigroup Inc, Deutsche Bank AG, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. and U.S. Bancorp are bookrunners for the Disney deal, the person said. The notes will be rated A by S&P Global Ratings and are expected to be graded A2 by Moody’s Ratings. Elon Musk ’s Starlink satellite constellation violates international law while blurring the line between commercial and military technologies, Iranian and Russian diplomats said at a United Nations meeting. The “illegal operation” of Starlink in Iran violates the nation’s sovereignty and amounts to “unauthorized military use of a commercial satellite mega-constellation,” read a statement delivered by the Islamic Republic late Monday at a UN scientific meeting in Vienna . The Kremlin’s delegation suggested SpaceX’s network could be in violation of a provision of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty , ratified by the US and more than 100 other countries, requiring satellite operators to take into account the interests of other space actors. Having large networks run by private companies “is hardly in line with the interest of the long-term sustainability of outer space activities and use of outer space,” the Russian statement added. The criticism at the meeting of the UN’s Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space shows how Starlink is upending geopolitics as usual. Read More: How Musk’s Starlink Pierces Iran’s Internet Blackout SpaceX, which operates the network of some 9,600 satellites, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. The Starlink service has become a key communication link for Ukrainians fighting against Russia’s invasion, as well as Iranian opposition forces that took to the streets last month. Even though Starlink is technically illegal in Iran, an estimated 50,000 terminals have been smuggled into the country in recent years. Those connections allowed protesters to coordinate activities even as authorities blacked out other forms of communication. The Vienna meeting isn’t the only UN forum where Iran has taken its fight against SpaceX. Tehran has also argued at the Geneva-based International Telecommunication Union , the UN’s agency for digital technologies, that the network violates rules prohibiting use of telecom services not authorized by nat...
