No one has ever accused the U.S. Navy of moving too fast. No one has ever accused the U.S. Navy of moving too fast. It's been nearly 10 years since the Navy announced it would build a new fleet of 12 nuclear-powered, nuclear ballistic missile-armed Columbia-class submarines to replace its aging Ohio-class boats. It was three more years before the first steel was cut, and six years since the first keel was laid. It will be 2027 before the first boat is actually delivered, and it could be as late as 2031 before it's operationally ready -- 15 years, start to finish. That doesn't mean the money isn't already flowing, however. Continue reading
U.S. hyperscalers say they have plans to spend over $700 billion on data center build-outs in 2026 alone. Investors looking beyond AI chipmakers may find some excellent opportunities. One such opportunity is Arista Networks (NYSE: ANET) . The company produced phenomenal results in 2025 on the back of massive AI spending, and management expects 2026 to be even better. In fact, it raised its 2026 outlook alongside its fourth-quarter earnings release. But its call for 25% revenue growth this year may be too conservative. Image source: Getty Images. Continue reading

The first song I fell in love with My dad had a quite a small record collection, but it was pretty good, he had all the classics: Bob Marley, Bill Withers, Ella Fitzgerald, Tina Turner. But I vividly remember loving America by Simon and Garfunkel – there’s a sense of hope to it, like a feeling of wanting to escape. We spent a lot of time in the car, going on drives that didn’t really go anywhere, like that was our entertainment – we’d sing along in the car, me, my mum and dad. The first single I bought I remember my mum bought me a tape called Hardcore Ecstasy, which is a great compilation – I was genuinely seven. I just loved it. I think rave is so appealing to a seven-year-old, you know, it’s so noisy and vibrant. But the first song I remember buying is It’s Oh So Quiet by Björk, in Oldham’s HMV. It was weird and stuck out to me – I was nine. I think if I’m honest, I bought it based on the font and the silver metallic hyper-futuristic look – I didn’t know who she was, but I liked her DIY fringe. Continue reading...

Warner Bros-owned brand’s late arrival to British TV prompts deals for viewers as battle for subscribers heats up The launch of HBO Max into the increasingly crowded UK television market last week has prompted deals for consumers as former rivals team up amid a slowdown in subscriber growth. The Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) streaming service hopes a competitive price for direct sign-ups and deals bundling the service through Sky will make it a must-have and not an also-ran, in a British TV ecosystem upended by Netflix 14 years ago . Sending painting to artist’s namesake school in Salford is a first for gallery, and has brought huge benefits “Art feels different when it is close enough to breathe the same air,” said school principal Claire Coy, describing the thrill of being loaned a painting from a national collection. “I have visited many, many galleries and loved my experience but nothing has matched this.” Coy’s school, the Lowry Academy in Salford, has this week been the temporary home for LS Lowry’s Dwelling, Ordsall Lane, Salford , painted in 1927. It is the first time Tate has lent to a school and even though it has been for only two days, the benefits have been enormous, teachers and curators say. Continue reading...

And some of them don’t even require a tent Download 10 to 14 June, Donington, Leicestershire If you needed another reminder of the cultural capital currently wielded by the sounds and styles of the early 2000s, witness nu-metal veterans Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park headlining the UK’s biggest rock festival alongside Guns N’ Roses, who continue to fly the flag for Donington’s Monsters of Rock heritage. Further down the poster you’ll find the really adrenalised stuff: Blood Incantation’s cosmic death metal; Drain’s febrile hardcore; and Die Spitz’s peerlessly cool doom-punk hybrid. JHVEPhoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Thesis Wintrust Financial ( WTFC ) is a high-quality player in the regional banking space that has demonstrated superior loan growth, robust deposit growth, and a brilliant multi-charter structure model. However, severe macroeconomic uncertainty related to the Iran war taking interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve off the table, concerns around the private credit market, and overall credit deterioration in the economy make the upside limited. Consequently, I am issuing a hold rating on WTFC. Company Profile Wintrust is a financial services company headquartered in Rosemont, IL, with over $60 billion in assets. The firm operates through 175 community bank locations and offers traditional and commercial community banking, wealth management, mortgage origination, commercial insurance premium financing, and short-term accounts receivable financing. Wintrust operates in the Chicagoland area, southern Wisconsin, and northwest Indiana. Wintrust operates under a unique multi-charter community banking model with 16 separately chartered community banks. Wintrust had $71 billion in total assets, $53 billion in total loans, and about $57 billion in total deposits as of Q4, 2025. Fourth Quarter, 2025 Earnings Wintrust reported a strong finish to 2025 with Q4, 2025 earnings that produced an 11% increase in net income year-over-year from $525.1 million in Q4, 2024 to $583.9 million in Q4, 2025. This increase in net income was driven by growth in average earning assets and improved net interest margin. Net Interest Income (NII), the difference between the interest the bank earns on its assets, like loans and investments, versus the interest the bank pays out on its liabilities, like deposits, increased $583.9 million in the fourth quarter. This metric is up $16.9 million from the third quarter, driven by the growth in average earning assets. The company also reported strong balance sheet growth, with assets increasing $1.5 billion in t...
