Such was the case with Cardinal Health ( CAH ) for many years before it finally caught a bid. This came as the market realized that the cash flow-rich business could return plenty of value to shareholders with a combination of a low valuation and share buybacks. Suffice to say that ABM hasn’t been one of my best picks, as the stock price is virtually flat since my last coverage, despite steady revenue growth of nearly $1 billion over this timeframe, as shown below. March WTI crude oil (CLH26) today is up +0.45 (+0.69%), and March RBOB gasoline (RBH26) is up +0.0193 (+1.00%). Crude oil and gasoline prices are moving higher today, but remain below Thursday's highs. Geopolitical risks in the Middle East are underpinning crude prices after President Trump warned Iran to make a nuclear deal or face military strikes. However, gains in crude today are limited due to a stronger dollar, and after President Trump said he had overnight discussions with Iran and indicated he expected them to continue. Don’t Miss a Day: On Thursday, crude oil climbed to a 4.25-month high and gasoline rose to a 2-month high after President Trump said that US ships he ordered to the Middle East were ready to fulfill their mission "with speed and violence, if necessary" if Iran fails to agree to a nuclear deal. An attack on Iran, OPEC's fourth-largest producer, could disrupt the country's crude supplies and potentially close the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world's oil passes. Crude oil also has support after Russia recently threw cold water on hopes of a breakthrough in peace talks with Ukraine, after the Kremlin said the "territorial issue" remains unresolved with Ukraine, and there's "no hope of achieving a long-term settlement" to the war until Russia's demand for territory in Ukraine is accepted. But that’s what happened to Simona Di Dio last weekend, when she cooked dishes inspired by her Italian grandmother’s recipes for Madonna, who sat on the single wooden dining table in their cosy, candlelit Italian restaurant in Margate’s old town. “It was really informal and really lovely, and relaxed. It was really special and she was really nice,” said Di Dio. Investors also awaited the European Central Bank's upcoming decision, expecting a 25 bps rate cut later this week. Data showing much less than expected growth in China's exports and imports in September weighed a bit on sentiment. A much-anticipated Chinese stimulus announcement over the weekend also failed to inspire confidence among investors. The pan European Stoxx 600 climbed 0.53%. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 gained 0.47%, Germany's DAX ended up 0.69% and France's CAC 40 closed 0.32% up, while Switzerland's SMI advanced 0.86%. Among other markets in Europe, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands, Russia, Spain and Sweden ended higher. Austria, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Poland, Portugal and Turkiye closed weak, while Denmark and Norway ended flat. Shares of designer goods manufacturers fell as investors remained jittery over anemic China demand for European designer goods. In the UK market, Vistry Group climbed nearly 4.5%. Bunzl, SSE, BAE Systems and Severn Trent gained 2 to 2.5%, while United Utilities advanced nearly 2%. One of my bigger mistakes in the last few years was probably to underestimate how much companies like Meta Platforms ( META ), Amazon ( AMZN ), Alphabet ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ), or OpenAI must spend to build out the infrastructure necessary for running AI applications. Subsequently, I also underestimated how much revenue companies like NVIDIA Corporation ( NVDA ) would generate and what growth rates these companies would report. While NVIDIA is the poster child of the AI hardware and infrastructure company, it also includes Broadcom Inc. ( AVGO ), which I rated as a “Hold” several times in the last 13 months. Since my first article about Broadcom was published in December 2024, an investment would have returned about 36.5% (including dividends) and therefore clearly outperformed the S&P 500 ( SPY ), which had an impressive run itself. In my last article in October 2025, I rated Broadcom as a “Hold” once again, and this time, being cautious was obviously the right call so far. Since the article was published, the S&P 500 still increased slightly (about 1%), while Broadcom declined 14%. In the conclusion of my last article, I wrote: In my opinion, Broadcom is too expensive to be a good investment. Of course, I must admit that the stock was a great investment in the last five years, and I was clearly too pessimistic. Nevertheless, I don’t know whether Broadcom is a good long-term investment at this point or whether the company must grow into the stock’s extremely high valuation in the next few years, leading to either a stagnating stock price over a few years or a steeper decline. I don’t want to short Broadcom at this point, as valuation multiples don’t seem so discounted from reality that a “Sell” rating is justified, but at this point the stock is a “Hold” at best. The little EV maker still has a lot to prove. Rivian (RIVN 3.59%), a producer of electric vehicles, went public at $78 on Nov. 10, 2021. Today, its stock trades at $15. It initially attracted a lot of attention because it already delivered its first vehicles, and its top investors were Amazon (AMZN 0.94%) and Ford (F 1.07%). However, Rivian lost its luster after missing ambitious production targets, incurring steep losses, and failing to justify its sky-high valuations. Ford also scrapped its plans to co-develop an electric pickup with Rivian and liquidated most of its Rivian shares in 2022. But could this out-of-favor stock bounce back over the next five years? Why did Rivian’s stock collapse? Rivian produces three types of EVs: the R1T pickup truck, the R1S SUV, and custom electric delivery vans (EDVs) for Amazon and other companies. It plans to launch its third commercial vehicle, the R2 SUV, in the first half of 2026. When Rivian went public, it predicted it would produce 50,000 vehicles in 2022. Unfortunately, it produced only 24,337 cars and delivered 20,332, as it grappled with supply chain constraints. In 2023, it more than doubled its production to 57,232 and delivered 50,122 vehicles as it overcame those supply chain issues. In 2024, Rivian’s production dipped to 49,476 vehicles as inflation, high interest rates, lower EV subsidies, and competition throttled its expansion -- but its total deliveries still rose to 51,579 vehicles. For 2025, it expects to deliver only 40,000 to 46,000 cars, as macro and micro headwinds continue to impact its business. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) fell 0.7% and 0.9%, respectively, pointing to another down session for tech stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) dropped 0.9%. Markets are calculating the potential impact after Trump said he has chosen frontrunner Warsh as the US central bank's next chair. The former Fed governor has a hawkish record on interest rates but has recently voiced support for cuts — which Trump has aggressively campaigned for.
