EU, Spain and Germany, as well as rights groups, condemn law to execute Palestinian convicted terrorists A vote in the Israeli Knesset approving a bill sanctioning the execution of Palestinians convicted on terror charges for deadly attacks, but not Jewish extremists accused of similar crimes, has been greeted with widespread international condemnation. “The death penalty bill in Israel is very concerning to us in the EU,” the EU spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said in Brussels. “This is a clear step backwards – the introduction of the death penalty, together with the discriminatory nature of the law. The company, which was rescued from administration in 2009 by the restructuring experts Hilco and also owns the Burleigh brand, based in Stoke-on-Trent, is understood to have struggled with the surging cost of gas, higher labour costs, tighter financial markets and softening consumer demand for its premium homeware. MF3d/iStock via Getty Images Bitdeer Technologies Group ( BTDR ) is in the process of a major operational transformation from one of the largest bitcoin mining operators towards AI/HPC colocation hosting with multiple large-scale data center developments in progress. As power remains a major constraint for greenfield data center projects, Bitdeer’s secured power capacity may become a more critical asset to leverage in the market, potentially driving demand for filling up capacity at its sites. With bitcoin’s 2026 decline pushing down BTDR shares, I believe investors may capitalize on the price discount when considering BTDR shares’ historical trading range; I am recommending BTDR shares with a Buy rating, with a price target of $21.37/share at 3.66x eFY27 price/sales. Bitdeer Technologies Group Operations The price of Bitcoin has faced mounting pressure since peaking in October 2025, declining by -46% at the current price level. With the market turning to a risk-off investment approach, I believe bitcoin may face continued pressure in the near term, potentially furthering its decline over the coming months. TradingView Paired with higher electricity prices, Bitdeer has faced incremental pressure on the margin, with gross margin compressing to 5% in Q4’25, down from 24% in the previous quarter. One of the biggest contributing factors to rising electricity prices is the growing large-scale data center footprint, as the backlog for new capacity for industrial gas turbines deepens. With bitcoin becoming harder to mine, resulting from the halving event in 2024, rising prices for infrastructure and power, and the challenging bitcoin pricing market environment, Bitdeer is taking aim at breaking into the AI/HPC data center market to diversify its portfolio and potentially transition into a more sustainable business model. As of January 2026, Bitdeer had 1.66 GW of capacity online and has a global power pipeline of 3 GW, presenting an appealing foundation for developing its ...

Meta claims social media addiction isn’t real. Juries disagree Hello, and welcome to TechScape. I’m your host, Blake Montgomery, US tech editor for the Guardian. I’m hoping futilely for warm spring weather in New York City, but while it’s still cold, I’m sitting inside and reading The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains by Nicholas Carr. Published in 2010 and a finalist for the Pulitzer prize, the book is a fascinating record of our anxieties about technology at a time when the iPhone was just three years old and Facebook was just six. Google Chrome had debuted two years prior, and I think I was using Mozilla Firefox as my main browser. Stay tuned for a fuller analysis once I finish, but my early impression is that Carr’s observations have stood the test of time. This week in tech, we’re discussing one major topic: two landmark cases against Meta and YouTube over social media addiction. Whether social media is clinically addictive or not, the liability for it has been determined. ‘Accountability has arrived’: dual US court losses show shifting tide against Meta and co The Guardian view on social media in the dock: tech bros move fast – society is trying to catch up How Meta’s victim-blaming failed to sway jurors in landmark social media addiction trial | Technology I was paid to write fake Google reviews – then my ‘bosses’ tried to scam me Keep under-fives’ screen time to no more than an hour a day, UK advice says Wikipedia bans AI-generated content in its online encyclopedia Federal judge sides with Anthropic in first round of standoff with Pentagon Bernie Sanders and AOC introduce bill to pause building of new datacenters Continue reading...
