Barrick Mining Corp. has formed an executive leadership team for its North American operations as the gold producer advances plans to pursue an initial public offering for the business. The new management team will oversee Barrick’s mines in Nevada and the Dominican Republic and consists of seven positions, according to a Tuesday memo seen by Bloomberg News . Barrick executives who currently oversee the North American operations have been named as part of the leadership structure, including Tim Cribb as chief operating officer and Wessel Hamman as chief financial officer. Megan Tibbals, who was previously general manager at Barrick’s Nevada Gold Mines venture, becomes chief technical officer. Richard Peattie will become Barrick’s chief technical officer, according to the memo. Barrick didn’t immediately provide comment. The world’s third-largest gold producer is pursuing an IPO as it seeks a reset following a string of operational setbacks and a management shakeup that included last September’s sudden departure of longtime chief Mark Bristow . A North American spinoff, which could be worth more than $60 billion, would follow years of declining output and separate the business from operations in more risky jurisdictions, including Mali and Pakistan . Read More: Barrick to Spin Off North American Gold Assets Through IPO The new structure marks Barrick’s latest efforts to separate its North American assets and sell a 10% to 15% stake in the entity later this year. The spinoff would include Barrick’s interest in the Nevada and Dominican Republic joint ventures with Newmont Corp. , as well as the company’s Fourmile project in Nevada. The new company “needs dedicated leadership to focus on its specific priorities,” Barrick Chief Executive Officer Mark Hill said in the memo, adding that the changes come into effect Wednesday.

The market-cap-weighted S&P 500 Index rose 17.9% in the year, while the equal-weighted S&P 500 Index gained just 11.4%. The Magnificent Seven, this market's nucleus, rose 24.9% in 2025. While performance comparisons will vary based on the time period, cap-weighted and equal-weighted indexes have produced similar returns over long periods of time. Contributors: Stock selection in consumer staples, a health care overweight and IT underweight proved beneficial. Detractors: Quarterly underperformance was driven primarily by stock selection in the communication services, IT, materials and real estate sectors. Outlook: We anticipate the AI debate will carry over in 2026 and we will continue to participate in AI in a measured and disciplined way. Yet, as other investors continue to myopically focus on AI, we expect to find additional idiosyncratic opportunities in overlooked corners of the market. We believe these seeds will bear fruit in the years to come. Performance Review The S&P 500 managed a 2.7% gain in the fourth quarter, while the Strategy captured roughly half of that. On the plus side, consumer staples holdings such as Nestle, Coca-Cola and Unilever and a health care overweight shined as concerns of a tech bubble grew. On the downside, we are underweight Alphabet and Apple, two Magnificent Seven stocks that performed well, and overweight Oracle, which gave back some of its large gains from earlier in 2025. Increasing competitive dynamics in the wireless industry also weighed on T-Mobile. 2025 marked the third consecutive year of this AI-driven cycle. Earnings Call Insights: Dawson Geophysical Company (DWSN) Q4 2025 Management View CEO Anthony Clark said the company generated $14 million in cash from operations in 2025 and “reinvesting a portion of that into new single-node channels to increase our capacity and strengthen our foundation for profitability and our future.” Clark highlighted accelerated equipment deliveries driven by customer demand: “We purchased $24.2 million of new equipment, primarily new single-node channels,” adding that the company “accelerated our delivery time line throughout the fourth quarter” and received the final delivery in January 2026; he said the equipment “has been highly utilized in our U.S. and Canadian operations.” Clark framed Dawson’s scale and job capability as a differentiator: “Currently, we have over 180,000 channels of legacy and new equipment available to service the industry,” and “we have a significant competitive advantage for larger seismic jobs due to our higher channel count and our quality of operated energy source units.” Clark emphasized cost discipline alongside growth: “We are continually monitoring our cost structure and reduced our general and administrative expenses 9% in 2025 compared to 2024,” and added, “We expect that improvement to continue into 2026.” CFO Ian Shaw reported Q4 performance: “For the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2025, the company reported fee revenues of $22.9 million,” and “net income of $0.6 million or $0.02 per common share,” while “adjusted EBITDA” was “$3.3 million.” Outlook Management stated it would not provide guidance: “The company will not provide any guidance.” Clark described early-2026 activity trends in operational terms, saying, “we are experiencing an increase in utilization and revenue in the first quarter of 2026,” and added, “We anticipate our Canadian operations to have a successful first quarter.” With no prior-quarter transcript provided beyond “not available,” the call did not include a quarter-over-quarter g...

Getty Images Introduction The first article I wrote for Seeking Alpha was on Rocket Lab ( RKLB ), so that makes the stock a special one for me as an analyst. Since I wrote that article in January, I've kept a close eye on the stock and the company. In that article, I argued that Rocket Lab's valuation had gotten too stretched. I analyzed Rocket Lab's various business segments and concluded that a $45 billion market cap couldn't be justified by current economics. If you'll indulge me in patting myself on the back for a moment, I wrote the following about the Neutron rocket, which I think proved quite prescient: Further complicating the design is the heavy reliance on carbon fiber in the ship's design. The rocket's mold is created by Rocket Lab's remarkable Automated Fiber Placement machine (AFP machine), which essentially 3D prints a large part of the rocket's body and components. If it works, carbon fiber as a material of rocketry makes a lot of sense: it has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, which means a lighter, more efficient rocket, and is cheaper than the alternatives. But it's also incredibly risky and untested - SpaceX itself moved away from carbon fiber tanks primarily because of the difficulty they present for reusability. The material is brittle and fails suddenly, unlike steel, which is malleable and bends before it breaks. I also mentioned that the market has a history of systematically underestimating the difficulty of rocket science. These concerns played out when Rocket Lab's Neutron tank catastrophically failed under hydrostatic testing. One important thing to note, though, is that this tank was created by a third-party contractor, not by Rocket Lab's AFP machine. That fact could either mitigate the failure or introduce new, unforeseen challenges. The unexpected explosion of the Neutron tank has pushed the company's estimate for the maiden launch of Neutron back to Q4 of 2026. In my view any Neutron launch this year remains unlikely. But around...
