In an interview on Thursday, US Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg said he expects a lot of “momentum and excitement” toward “agreeing on a pricing mechanism that we can all coordinate together on in order to ensure price stability for people in the mineral refining and extraction business.” The move follows a late-Wednesday selloff in rare earth stocks after Reuters reported that the Trump administration had stepped back from plans to guarantee minimum prices for U.S. critical minerals projects. Donald Trump has warned the UK against doing business with China, just hours after Keir Starmer lauded the economic relationship during a landmark visit to Beijing. The US president said it was “very dangerous” for the UK to pursue closer ties with the rival superpower as the prime minister’s three-hour talks with leader Xi Jinping underlined a thaw in previously strained relations. Starmer, the first British prime minister to travel to Beijing in eight years, promised a “more sophisticated” relationship with China, as he secured improved market access, lower tariffs and investment deals. But in Washington, replying to questions about Starmer’s attempts at an economic reset, Trump said: “Well, it’s very dangerous for them to do that.” His remarks could create nerves inside Downing Street given the US president’s unpredictability and long-held hostility towards China. One official said the US had been aware of the trip and the UK’s objectives in advance. After his talks with Xi at the Great Hall of the People on Thursday, Starmer said the UK’s relationship with China was in a “good, strong place”, and that his meetings had provided “just the level of engagement that we hoped for”. “We warmly engaged and made some real progress, actually, because the UK has got a huge amount to offer,” he told a meeting of the UK-China Business Forum at the Bank of China in Beijing. Tesla Ends Model S, Model X Production During Tesla's Q4 earnings call on Wednesday, Musk relayed the news to investors and analysts that the automaker would be scrapping its two premium offerings. "It’s time to bring the Model S and X programs to an end with an honorable discharge," Musk said, adding that Tesla intends to "basically stop production" of the vehicles next quarter. U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Canada with a 50 percent tariff on any aircraft sold in the U.S., the latest salvo in his trade war with America's northern neighbor. Also, Trump signed an executive order aimed at imposing trade tariffs on countries that provide oil to Cuba, a move that puts pressure on Mexico. The benchmark BSE Sensex was down 358 points, or 0.4 percent, at 82,207 while the broader NSE Nifty index slipped 115 points, or half a percent, to 25,304. Ambuja Cements, Bajaj Auto, Power Grid Corporation of India and NTPC were moving lower ahead of their earnings results due today. ITC gained about 1 percent despite posting flat Q3 profit. REC tumbled 2.6 percent after Q3 profit declined sequentially. Paytm lost 4 percent and Swiggy plunged 6 percent after reporting their quarterly results.
