Shares of PPG ( PPG ) fell 2.4% in extended trading after the report. The maker of paints and coatings said adjusted earnings were $1.51 a share, below the consensus estimate of $1.58. Revenue rose to $3.9 billion, topping analysts’ expectations of $3.77 billion. Net income rose to $302 million, or $1.34 a share, from $2 million, or $0.01 a share, a year earlier. Organic sales increased 3% year over year, driven by higher selling prices and sales volume growth across all regions. Reported earnings per diluted share were $1.34. Chairman and Chief Executive Tim Knavish said the company delivered its strongest organic growth of the year in the quarter. “We accelerated our growth momentum by delivering 3% growth in organic sales, with contributions from both sales volume and selling prices,” Knavish said in the earnings release. During the quarter, PPG ( PPG ) repurchased about $100 million of its shares. Segment performance In the global architectural coatings segment, sales rose 8% to $951 million as higher selling prices and favorable currency effects offset the impact of divestitures. Segment earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization increased 14% to $164 million. Segment ebitda margin expanded to 17.2%. Performance coatings revenue increased 5% to $1.32 billion, supported by strong demand for aerospace coatings and protective and marine coatings. Segment ebitda declined 4% as lower automotive refinish volumes and higher investment spending weighed on results. Industrial coatings sales rose 3% to $1.64 billion, helped by share gains and higher volumes. Segment ebitda increased 6% and margins improved modestly from a year earlier. LPETTET Amazon ( AMZN ) is in the spotlight of the grocery sector after it announced its plans to close its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go storefronts to prioritize investment in growth areas. The e-commerce intends to focus on expanding its Whole Foods Market brand, with plans to open more than 100 new stores over the next few years, in addition to expanding its same-day delivery service to new cities and towns in 2026. Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives said the Whole Foods Market announcement is an important step forward in Amazon's ( AMZN ) broader strategy. He thinks the initiative should help the company capture incremental share in perishable categories where they have struggled historically. "The reason this announcement is so significant is that Amazon has yet to displace incumbents in the grocery category, at least for perishables," he highlighted. The grocery mix at large general merchandisers such as Walmart, Target, and Costco has made the category of critical importance to Amazon. Mizuho analyst David Bellinger said developing a larger fulfillment network could help Amazon ( AMZN ) increase grocery market share. During Amazon's ( AMZN ) third-quarter earnings conference call, CEO Andy Jassy said Amazon ( AMZN ) could grow to be a top-three grocery in the U.S. Amazon ( AMZN ) acquired Whole Foods Market in 2017 for about $13.7B in a breakthrough deal that instantly gave it hundreds of high-end stores and a credible entry into brick-and-mortar grocery. Censorship & The Ratchet Effect: Threats To Free Speech Outlast Supposed Crises Authored by Julian Adorney via TheDailyEconomy.org, Late last year, YouTube announced plans to reinstate accounts that had been banned at the behest of the Biden Administration for posting alleged COVID-19 misinformation. The announcement likely came as a relief to groups like the Children’s Health Defense Fund, a group associated with Robert Kennedy Jr.; and to Senator Ron Johnson; both of whom were punished by the social media giant for posting videos that ran contrary to the Biden administration’s official policy on the COVID-19 vaccine and on COVID-19 treatments. This is a good move. But we should remember, it wasn’t just YouTube that decided to punish speech disapproved by the prior administration. A report by the United States House of Representatives’ Committee on the Judiciary and Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government contains damning evidence that the Biden Administration leaned on social media companies to censor anti-vaccine content during the COVID-19 pandemic. The report details how Facebook, Amazon, and YouTube all shadowbanned or removed content that was critical of the administration’s official stance on the vaccines, the origin of the virus, and more. The administration’s actions were reckless, and endangered more than just our societal freedom of speech. For one thing, while it might be tempting to think that the Biden Administration only censored crackpots and conspiracy theorists, the truth is far worse. The report details how the Biden administration leaned on Facebook to censor the “lab leak” theory of COVID-19’s origins, a theory that’s now seen as highly plausible . For the period ending Dec. 31, TI said it earned $1.27 per share as revenue rose 10% year-over-year to $4.42B. Analog revenue rebounded, up 14% year-over-year to $3.62B, while embedded processing revenue rose 8% over the same time frame to $662M. Other revenue tumbled 34% year-over-year to $146M. In addition, earnings per share included a $0.06 reduction that was not in the company's original guidance, TI added. Analysts had expected the company to earn $1.28 per share on $4.43B in revenue. “Revenue decreased 7% sequentially and increased 10% from the same quarter a year ago,” Haviv Ilan, TI's chairman, president, and CEO, said in a statement . “Our cash flow from operations of $7.2 billion for the trailing 12 months again underscored the strength of our business model, the quality of our product portfolio and the benefit of 300mm production. Free cash flow for the same period was $2.9 billion. Over the past 12 months we invested $3.9 billion in R&D and SG&A, invested $4.6 billion in capital expenditures and returned $6.5 billion to owners.” Seeking Alpha analyst Grassroots Trading said the results were encouraging. “Investors appear to be focused on cash flow and capital discipline,” the analyst said via email. “Strong returns for shareholders and clearer visibility into cash flows are more than offsetting ongoing worries about how quickly demand will return to normal levels in industrial and automotive end markets.” Looking to the first-quarter of fiscal 2026, Texas Instruments said it expects to earn between $1.22 and $1.48 per share, with the midpoint above the analyst estimate of $1.26 per share. 尼帕病毒｜印度衛生部澄清去年12月至今僅兩人確診 196人檢測呈陰性 To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 【有線新聞】印度衛生部門澄清至今確診兩宗尼帕病毒感染個案，接受追蹤的196人檢測陰性。泰國及尼泊爾在機場和陸路口岸加強檢查旅客。 印度南部在2018年及2023年都曾爆發尼帕病毒感染，分別有17人及兩人死亡。去年底西孟加拉邦又爆發感染群組，印度衛生部門發聲明澄清不實數據和揣測，稱去年12月至今西孟加拉邦只確診兩宗尼帕病毒感染個案，196人要接受追蹤監測，所有人都沒有出現病徵，對尼帕病毒檢測呈陰性。據報感染者及追蹤人士都是醫護及家屬。 中央及地方衛生部門實地調查，加強監測和實驗室檢驗，防範病毒蔓延，沒再發現新個案。衛生部稱會繼續監察情況，落實所有必要衛生措施。 尼帕病毒可以由豬、果蝠等動物傳染給人，亦會人傳人，死亡率高達40%至70%以上，沒疫苗或藥物可治療。部分亞洲國家相繼加強防疫，尼泊爾在加德滿都機場及接壤印度的陸路邊境口岸加強對入境旅客篩查。泰國亦在曼谷和布吉三個有西孟加拉邦客機抵埗的機場加強旅客檢查和要求提交健康申報。
