Chinese electric vehicle (EV) king BYD aims for a 24 per cent increase in its overseas deliveries in 2026, buoyed by an expanded sales network and new model launches, as it pursues growth abroad to counteract a slowing domestic market. The Shenzhen-based company, the world’s largest builder of pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, expected to sell 1.3 million cars this year outside mainland China, up 24.3 per cent from 2025, said Li Yunfei, general manager of branding and public relations, in a media briefing on Saturday. “We will launch more new models in some lucrative markets, which will include our Denza-branded vehicles,” he said. “Our network of dealers will be further expanded.” Advertisement Admitting that BYD faced challenges in driving up its sales both at home and abroad this year, Li said increasing brand awareness across the globe would provide a catalyst for international expansion. Last year, BYD’s sales outside the mainland accounted for about 23 per cent of its total deliveries, which rose 7.7 per cent to 4.6 million units. Its proportion of overseas sales more than doubled from just 10 per cent in 2024. Advertisement BYD builds vehicles under five brands: mass-market brands Dynasty and Ocean, premium brand Denza, off-road-capable SUV brand Fang Cheng Bao and luxury brand Yangwang Its overseas distribution network now numbers 2,000 dealers.

The reason ordinary Hongkongers acted so swiftly and generously to help the victims of the Tai Po fire is that they understood instinctively just what a traumatic effect the tragedy must have had on their fellow citizens. The loss of the family home would arouse the deepest emotions at any time. In circumstances where the loss was sudden, not the fault of the individuals themselves and accompanied by the deaths of scores of neighbours, the feelings would be particularly intense. There is a fundamental difference between a mere “house” and a “home”. As we enter an era when literally hundreds of residential tower blocks every year will need to be extensively refurbished, it is vital that our policymakers and legislators fully understand the difference. Advertisement A flat is basically a void in a concrete block. It has certain dimensions. It may be fitted out simply or lavishly, there may or may not be a view, the complex may contain facilities such as a clubhouse or swimming pool, and provision of parking spaces will vary. All these factors will have a bearing on the value of the property and a whole industry of bankers and agents exists to help any individual assess what constitutes a fair price. A home is a flat with special qualities. It is where a family lives, where parents raise children, where a student does homework, where a weary breadwinner rests at the end of the day. Whatever the trials and tribulations the world has thrown at the family members during the day, once they are inside and have closed the front door, they are safe and can relax. They are at home. These qualities are not so easy to put a price on. Advertisement It is clear to me that what the Tai Po victims require most urgently (now that short-term needs have largely been met) is a new permanent home to replace the one they have lost.

Retirees with tax-deferred accounts need to know when to take required minimum distributions (RMDs) and how to calculate the withdrawal amount. Tax-deferred accounts like traditional individual retirement accounts (IRAs) and 401(k) plans let workers delay tax payments on qualified contributions in the present, allowing them to save pre-tax dollars in exchange for paying income tax on the contributions and any gains in the future. However, you cannot delay the tax bill indefinitely. At a certain age, individuals with a tax-deferred account must begin taking required minimum distributions (RMDs) each year. RMDs are calculated as a percentage of the money held in the accounts at the end of the previous calendar year. Here's what you need to know about RMDs, including how to calculate the RMD amount on $250,000. What account types are subject to required minimum distributions (RMDs)? A required minimum distribution (RMD) is the smallest amount of money that must be withdrawn from certain types of retirement accounts each year. The RMD rules apply to the original account holders and beneficiaries with the following plans: Importantly, Roth accounts are not subject to RMDs while the original account holder is alive, but beneficiaries of Roth accounts must abide by RMD rules. RMDs must typically be completed by Dec. 31. The only exception is the first RMD, which can be postponed until April 1 of the following year. At what age do required minimum distributions (RMDs) begin? The Secure Acts of 2019 and 2022 gradually raised the age at which RMDs begin. This year, tax-deferred account holders aged 73 and older must take RMDs. The chart below provides more detail. Account Holder's Birth Date Age When RMDs Begin Before July 1, 1949 70 1/2 July 1, 1949, to Dec. 31, 1950 72 Jan. 1, 1951, to Dec. 31, 1959 73 After Dec. 31, 1959 75 The penalty for not completing the RMD on time is an additional 25% excise tax -- that is, you would owe the IRS 25% of the amount not withdrawn (and y...

The company's expansive artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor and data center business is narrowing the gap with the industry leader, according to Wall Street. Despite its accelerating growth, Broadcom stock is reasonably priced, particularly given the opportunity. 10 stocks we like better than Broadcom › The dawn of artificial intelligence (AI) saw Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) take the pole position, as its graphics processing units (GPUs) provided the computational horsepower necessary to handle the rigors of AI. The stock has risen 1,160% since early 2023, fueled by unprecedented demand for its AI-centric chips. However, 2025 saw a changing of the guard. Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) stock outpaced Nvidia, rising 49% compared to 39% gains for Nvidia. Let's take a look at what's driving Broadcom higher and why I predict we could see a repeat performance in 2026. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now, when you join Stock Advisor. See the stocks » The next big winner The speed and flexibility offered by GPUs made them the go-to for AI training and inference in the early days of the AI boom, but priorities have begun to shift. While Nvidia's chips are still best in class and demand remains high, the sheer magnitude of energy consumption has become a consideration. That's where Broadcom's application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) come in. These specialized AI chips can be customized, making them more energy-efficient for specific, repetitive tasks. As a result, data center and cloud operators are shifting the mix of their AI-capable chips, substituting Broadcom's ASICs for a portion of their GPUs to save energy and, ultimately, money. The trade-off is that these ASICs don't offer the same level of flexibility as GPUs, which can be deployed for a wide variety of high-performance computin...

He’s one of tennis’s unorthodox entertainers. A bit of a Nick Kyrgios, but with a new-found will to win. Bublik pulls off a drop shot/lob combo for 0-15 on De Minaur’s serve, but De Minaur moves to 30-15 and then 40-30, and he secures the game with an ace. Share 8m ago 08.23 GMT First set: De Minaur* 1-1 Bublik (*next server) De Minaur is playing in the fourth round for the fifth consecutive year - a feat that not even Hewitt, Mark Philippoussis and Pat Rafter achieved at their home slam – but he’s never been past the quarter-finals. Which largely sums up his career: he’s so consistent in beating the players he’s expected to, but is underpowered against the very best. De Minaur does send a bullet of a backhand winner down the line to get to deuce on Bublik’s serve, though. But two errors then give the Kazakhstani the game. Bublik claims the first victory as he wins the coin toss and elects to receive – but De Minaur opens confidently with an ace on the first point and a hold to 15.
