Naphatthakan Trakunchansaeng/iStock via Getty Images Real GDP is not showing encouraging signs At the core of a solid economy there is a fast-growing real GDP, which is what the US delivered in Q3 2025. Back then, the real GDP was growing by a staggering 4.40% (annualized rate), as if the US were a developing country instead of the world’s largest economy. However, from that point on, something has changed. Analysts were expecting a 2.80% real GDP expansion in Q4 2025, but the first estimate by BEA came lower than expected, just 1.40%. Then, we had the second estimate by BEA, and it was even lower, 0.70%. Yesterday, the third and final estimate of the Real GDP growth rate was released and it was just 0.50%. So, we went from the early analysts‘ expectation of 2.80% to end up at 0.50%. On top of that, the previous quarter saw a massive 4.40% growth rate, therefore, the economic expansion slowed down significantly in a very short time. What happened? Real GDP contributions (BEA) Well, the government shutdown played a major role but it explains only a part of the story. While it is true that the government component was responsible for a 1% drop in the overall result, it doesn’t explain why BEA estimates were revised downward multiple times. As you can see from the chart above, there were three components that exacerbated such an underwhelming result: lower consumer spending, lower investments, and lower exports. It might happen that a quarter doesn’t match expectations, especially if the previous one was great, but my concern is that Q4 2025 won’t be an isolated case. GDPNow forecast (Atlanta Fed) According to the Atlanta Fed , in late February the annualized real GDP growth rate forecast was +3.14%, a pretty positive one. However, as you can see from the chart, once the war broke out, the forecast has followed a downward spiral. Now, the Q1 2026 real GDP forecast is just a 1.31% expansion. If an economy grows by 1.31%, we can’t state that it is in recession, but the u...

Apple is casting a new line to reel more users into its prized ecosystem, a money-printing machine with fresh hardware as the lure and services as the hook. The tech giant announced its most affordable laptop in history last month with the rollout of the MacBook Neo. With a starting price of $599, the Neo is almost half the cost of some of Apple's higher-end laptops. Apple's new MacBook Air 13-inch M5 model starts at $1,099, whereas the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max starts at $3,899. All three laptops were unveiled during a three-day hardware blitz from management in March. The Neo is Apple's most obvious attempt to challenge budget laptops like Google's Chromebook models and entry-level Windows machines, which can start around $300 or less. "[Neo] is a much more compelling offering at the price point for what you're getting compared to a similar spec PC," Chandler Willison, analyst at research firm M Science, told CNBC in an interview. "That's really the main advantage there." While a little more expensive, the Neo is an attractive option for cash-constrained consumers who need to do simple tasks such as writing, browsing the web, or using artificial intelligence chatbots. College students, for example, are the perfect market. Apple is even catering to them through a $100 education discount. This strategy is nothing new to Apple. Management has spent decades proving the same point to investors: Enter an existing category, make a better mousetrap, and the sales and stock appreciation will come. The strategy also includes getting more and more people to use Apple services, which have higher margins than devices and create recurring revenue. As of January, Apple had an installed base of more than 2.5 billion devices. Building on the momentum of the iPod and iTunes music store, Apple launched the iPhone in 2007. It had no physical keyboard. At the time, it was a high-status and niche product, entering a market dominated by the less expensive, ubiquitous BlackBerry. A...

wildpixel/iStock via Getty Images It's all about the Strait of Hormuz The US-Iran war is currently in a two-week ceasefire. The high-level representatives from each country are expected to start negotiations this weekend in Pakistan. Let's be clear, these negotiations are strictly about the Strait of Hurmuz, thus very narrow in scope, and not expected to solve the key underlying issues - the Iranian uranium enrichment and the ballistic missiles program. Leading to the ceasefire, President Trump "angrily" requested the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz via several social media posts and even made some " apocalyptic" threats against the entire Iranian civilization. President Trump's concerns are understandable - if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, the oil price shock could cause a global depression, even global famine due to a shortage of fertilizers. Thus, it is absolutely necessary that the Strait of Hormuz reopen. So, the US and Iran are set to negotiate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Before discussing the likely outcome of these negotiations and their effect on the financial markets, it's important to understand the broad picture and underlying reasons for the war. What each side wants This war has three sides: the US and Israel versus Iran. Israel Isreal primarily wants to eliminate the nuclear threat from Iran - this is an existential threat for Israel. Nobody really knows what Iran's current nuclear capabilities are, outside the intelligence community. So, we have to assume "something is going on" with Iran given the urgency to attack. Israel also understands that regime change in Iran is the only longer-term solution, so this is likely Israel's primary objective. Iran Iran's primary objective now is likely regime survival, exactly countering Israel's primary objective. For longer-term regime survival, Iran needs a nuclear weapon, based on the North Korean case, which is exactly what Israel wants to prevent from happening. For near-term survival,...

jfmdesign/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images I previously reiterated Crocs' (NASDAQ: CROX ) deep value investment thesis and swing trade potential in December 2025. In this article, I shall discuss why CROX remains a Great Buy while offering numerous metrics for readers to monitor in the upcoming FQ1'26 earnings call. CROX Faces Numerous Headwinds & Tailwinds CROX 1Y Stock Price (Trading View) 1. Momentum Reversal Overly Done For now, CROX has outperformed the wider market, thanks to the recovering market sentiments over the past week attributed to the Iran ceasefire deal. I believe that the stock's +34.5% rally from the March 2026 bottom may have been overly done, since the uncertain macroeconomic environment may present headwinds to its unit sales performance in FY2026. For reference, the management previously reported a decelerating Crocs unit sales growth at +1.5% YoY in FY2025 and HEYDUDE at -16.6% YoY, compared to the +6.2% YoY reported in FY2024 and -18.2% YoY, respectively. Particularly, the Crocs Brand has underperformed in North America by -7.1% YoY in FY2025 despite the stable Direct-to-consumer sales on a YoY basis, albeit well balanced by the decent success in international markets at +11.8% YoY. HEYDUDE's ongoing underperformance has been rather disappointing as well, since the acquisition has yet to be accretive and/or reinvigorate CROX's growth prospects, while being dilutive to its bottom-lines arising from numerous impairment charges/distribution changes. At the same time, readers may want to note that clogs are no longer unique to CROX, with numerous competitors also offering footwears of a similar silhouette/material, with it presenting an intensifying competition to the former. Combined with the mixed FY2025 performance/FY2026 guidance (to be discussed in the next segment), I am of the opinion that the stock's recent rally has been mostly sentiment driven instead of fundamentals. 2. FQ1'26 Preview With CROX expected to report their FQ1'26 perfor...
