This pipeline operator has a high dividend yield and has scored some big deals with major technology companies over the last year. If your goal is to generate income from your investment portfolio, Energy Transfer (ET 0.66%) is a top stock to consider. With a 7.5% dividend yield, the gas pipeline operator provides income and has upside potential amid strong demand from hyperscalers for natural gas needed to fuel on-site generators that help provide consistent power to their data centers. With positive momentum heading into 2026, here's why Energy Transfer is my favorite dividend stock in the energy sector today. How Energy Transfer fuels artificial intelligence The build-out of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers is underway, and it directly benefits Energy Transfer as it integrates its natural gas network directly with major hyperscalers. Midway through last year, Energy Transfer scored multiple agreements with Oracle to supply natural gas to three of the hyperscaler's data centers, two of which are located in Texas. As part of the deal, the company would deliver about 900,000 one thousand cubic feet (Mcf) per day through a lateral pipeline connecting to its Hugh Brinson and North Texas pipelines. It also entered into a 20-year binding agreement with Entergy Louisiana, and will provide 250,000 metric million British thermal units (MMBtu) per day of firm transportation service starting in December 2028. The capacity will supply fuel for Entergy's power generation facilities in North Louisiana, supporting Meta Platforms' new data center in Richland Parish. Both businesses are struggling, making it hard for investors to be optimistic. Sirius XM (SIRI 0.77%) might be receiving a lot of attention simply because it's a top holding in Berkshire Hathaway's massive public equities portfolio. The satellite radio operator has some favorable qualities, but there are reasons to be bearish. Nike (NKE 0.64%) owns one of the world's most recognizable brands. It's a leader in the sportswear market. However, the management team there is in the middle of a difficult turnaround. Between these two consumer stocks, which presents the better buying opportunity today? That's because the stock is cheap, trading at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 6.7. That low valuation isn't surprising when you consider the stock price has tanked 66% in the past five years (as of Jan. 21). The market isn't pleased with Sirius XM's lack of growth. The company reported a year-over-year decline in revenue in the third quarter 2025, propelled by a paid subscriber base that keeps shrinking. It doesn't help that consumers flock to popular streaming services offered by major technology firms. There are reasons to be optimistic. Sirius XM's business model leans heavily toward recurring subscription sales, as opposed to ad revenue that can be cyclical. Its free cash flow is projected to grow by 22% between 2025 and 2027. Shockwaves In Beijing: Xi Targets His Own Top General, Longtime Confidant, In Elite Purge Another significant military purge appears underway in China, as Saturday morning the West woke up to news that China's most senior military officer, who is second only to Xi Jinping, has been put under investigation over alleged "grave violations of discipline and the law." Gen. Zhang Youxia is a vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, the Communist Party body that controls China's armed forces, and this comes as somewhat of a major shock given he is widely regarded as President Xi's closest ally within the military - or at least prior to this. Another member of the commission, Gen. Liu Zhenli, has also been placed under investigation, according to the Defense Ministry on the same day. He's in charge of the PLA military's Joint Staff Department. AFP: Zhang Youxia, left, and He Weidong, the previous second ranked Vice Chairman who was purged in 2025. No further details have been given regarding the accusations against General Zhang Youxia, but such language is often presented in such crackdowns as a euphemism for corruption . Xi has described corruption as " the biggest threat" to the Communist Party, having previously several times warned that the struggle against it "remains grave and complex." But critics as well as Western observers say this has served as a convenient and public PR mechanism for sidelining political rivals, and strengthening Xi's power and hold on the levers of power. The Wall Street Journal's Jonathan Cheng says that General Zhang's downfall is surprising as not only has he known Xi for decades, but is the "most senior member of military hierarchy to face dismissal since fallout of 1989 Tiananmen protests." And a former Central Intelligence Agency analyst who follows Chinese elite politics, Christopher K. Johnson, tells the NY Times on Saturday, "This move is unprecedented in the history of the Chinese military and represents the total annihilati...

Earlier in January 2026, Riot Platforms announced a 10-year, 25MW data center lease and services agreement with AMD at its Rockdale, Texas site, with options that could significantly expand AMD’s access to AI and high-performance computing capacity. This deal marks a meaningful broadening of Riot’s business model as it seeks to pair its large power footprint with long-term AI infrastructure tenants, reducing reliance on Bitcoin mining alone. Next, we’ll examine how this AMD agreement reshapes Riot Platforms’ investment narrative, especially its push into AI-focused data center leasing. AI is about to change healthcare. These 109 stocks are working on everything from early diagnostics to drug discovery. The best part - they are all under $10b in market cap - there's still time to get in early. What Is Riot Platforms' Investment Narrative? To own Riot today, you have to believe it can evolve from a pure-play Bitcoin miner into a credible power-and-data infrastructure platform, without losing financial discipline along the way. The AMD deal is a clear step in that direction: a 10-year, 25MW lease that begins to validate Riot’s Rockdale build-out and introduces a second, contracted revenue stream tied to AI and high-performance computing. In the near term, key catalysts still centre on Bitcoin pricing, mining economics and how quickly additional data center capacity is pre-leased, but this agreement shifts some investor focus toward tenancy quality and utilization of Riot’s 700MW interconnection. At the same time, it slightly reframes the risk set, adding execution and capital allocation questions on large-scale data center development to existing concerns around earnings volatility, dilution from the recent US$600.53 million equity raise and a rich earnings multiple. Yet behind the AI story, heavy share issuance and earnings swings remain issues investors should not ignore. Key Points Despite an aggressive expansion, declining same-store sales slowed overall revenue growth. Automation efforts have not stemmed its rising operating expenses. 10 stocks we like better than Sweetgreen › Sweetgreen (NYSE: SG) has attempted to stand out in the fast-casual restaurant space by emphasizing healthy food. Even though other restaurants, such as Chipotle and Cava Group, emphasize natural ingredients, Sweetgreen more explicitly focuses on health and sustainability and has introduced automation in an attempt to cut costs. Nonetheless, Sweetgreen stock sells at a fraction of its $28 per share initial public offering (IPO) price from 2021. Knowing that, can Sweetgreen find a way to generate shareholder returns, or is this a stock investors need to avoid? Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » The state of Sweetgreen On the surface, Sweetgreen looks like an intriguing concept. Amid the push for health, customers have turned to meals like salads and protein bowls. Moreover, the company invested in a robotics-based system to make food preparation more efficient. Unfortunately, this has not translated into gains for the company or its stock. The company planned to open 37 new restaurants in 2025 and had 266 restaurants as of the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2025 (ended Sept. 28). However, despite that increase, revenue in the first nine months of fiscal 2025 grew by 2% to $524 million. That included a 7% drop in same-store sales over the same period. Additionally, total operating expenses increased over that time frame, calling into question how well its moves to cut costs have worked. As a result, the $84 million net loss in the first three quarters of 2025 increased from $61 million in the same year-ago period. The company has responded to its struggles by slowing new restaurant growth to 20 restaurants in 2026. It also holds $130 million in cash and will...

Thomas Frank was brought to Tottenham as the pragmatic choice so will know that when his own supporters are demanding his sacking, he is in trouble. An underserved draw here, thanks to a last-minute Cristian Romero goal, leaves Spurs with two victories in 14 Premier League matches and chants from the away end of “We want Frank out”. If the loss to West Ham resulted in crisis talks last Sunday, Frank must have feared what the next stage after that is, especially with the fans turning. Micky van de Ven gave them hope of a much-needed win, but Spurs did not capitalise on the opener, allowing Burnley back into the match, with Axel Tuanzebe and Lyle Foster making the pressure almost unbearable for Frank until Romero offered respite. Tottenham could have been in the lead within 15 seconds, but Djed Spence could not find a teammate in the area to tap home after a miss from Kyle Walker. It was a moment to set pulses racing for both sets of supporters and offered hope of an entertaining episode between two out of form sides, but things quickly settled into a scrappy affair. It stayed this way until the half-hour mark when Tottenham enjoyed a brief spell of domination. Pedro Porro had gone close twice with free-kicks but there was very little to excite in open play. They spent plenty of time on the edge of the Burnley area, forcing Martin Dubravka into smart saves three times in quick succession; twice from former Claret Wilson Odobert and at point blank range from Conor Gallagher. View image in fullscreen Axel Tuanzebe equalises for Burnley late in the first half. Photograph: Lee Smith/Action Images/Reuters The resulting corner was not cleared and an unmarked Van de Ven swept home with a striker’s conviction. “We are staying up” was the droll line from the away end, but the jokes soon subsided. Burnley had enjoyed positive moments, but no one in their side had the confidence or conviction when it mattered. Apart from Lucas Pires heading home when five yards offside, there wa...

Why depend on one or two sources of income when you can have more? Here are three easy-to-access ideas. If you receive, or plan to receive, Social Security benefits, you know they will cover only a portion of your living expenses. For the rest, you need more than one source of retirement income. Part of that may come from savings, and part from passive income. The more dependable sources of money you have coming your way, the more likely you are to live comfortably in retirement. If you're looking for passive income ideas, here are a few you can add to your list. 1. Dividend stocks With a current S&P 500 dividend yield of about 1.13%, dividend stocks are unlikely to make you wealthy. However, they tend to be a reliable source of passive income. You can boost your returns by focusing on stocks that have long track records of rising dividend payouts. Several well-known companies have been making annual increases to their dividends for 25 years or more. They include companies like Target, Stanley Black & Decker, and PepsiCo. You can find dividend ETFs that concentrate on these and similar dividend-paying stocks to provide the passive income you want. 2. Real estate investment trusts (REITs) If you've read that owning real estate should be part of your retirement plan, the advice was not wrong. However, if you don't want to mess with managing real estate, another way to get in on the action is by investing in REITs. A REIT is a publicly traded company that owns (and better yet, manages) real estate. And because you don't have to knock on doors asking for rent payments or make emergency repairs in the middle of the night, they're a popular way to bring in passive income. While REITs offer the benefit of being a landlord without the heavy lifting, they can be volatile. In fact, when the overall stock market swings, REITs can swing even more dramatically. If you're looking for an investment that provides a strong return when the market is healthy and that can weather downt...

Andy Burnham has formally put himself forward to stand for parliament in the Manchester constituency of Gorton and Denton in what could be the first move in a campaign to replace Keir Starmer. The Greater Manchester mayor has announced that he has applied to be a candidate in the upcoming byelection, having submitted an application before the deadline of 5pm on Saturday. His application will have to be accepted by Labour’s national executive committee (NEC) but some of its members have predicted that the party’s ruling body, which is dominated by Starmer allies, will try to prevent Burnham’s return to parliament. The byelection was called this week after the resignation of the former minister Andrew Gwynne, who announced he was standing down because of ill health. Gwynne was formally appointed the crown steward and bailiff of the Manor of Northstead on Friday, which allows him to give up his seat in the House of Commons. The possibility of Burnham, 56, replacing Gwynne, 51, has long been rumoured, because he is considered one of the favourites to replace the prime minister were he to be toppled. Speculation rose to a fever pitch at the party’s conference in Liverpool last year, when Burnham told the Telegraph that Labour MPs had contacted him over the summer to stand after becoming concerned at Starmer’s unpopularity. London mayor Sir Sadiq Khan and Labour’s deputy leader, Lucy Powell, both told the Fabian Society’s conference on Saturday that Burnham should be allowed to stand. Khan told the event in central London: “I’m a firm believer in the best team having all the talent playing for them, and if Andy wants to return to parliament, I will try and make some time between now and the byelection to knock on some doors for him.” Meanwhile Powell, who represents the Manchester Central constituency, said the NEC should be wary of blocking Burnham from standing. She said it should be up to Burnham and party members in the constituency whether he is allowed to be the Lab...

The stock has finally surpassed its peak from a quarter-century ago, but some question whether the rise is sustainable. Memory chips play a vital role in the semiconductor space, ensuring that data gets stored reliably and accurately. Given the voracious appetite that artificial intelligence applications have for data, it's crucial that memory chips be able to transmit and share their information as quickly as possible. The technology behind making that happen has been what Rambus (RMBS 7.58%) has focused its efforts on in recent years, and the semiconductor technology specialist has done a good job of turning its innovation into rising sales and profits. In this second article of a three-part series on Rambus, you'll learn more about the company's financial performance and what has investors excited enough about its prospects that they've sent its shares to new record heights. Rambus has made products for data centers and AI a top priority Plenty of companies have targeted AI and AI-related themes like data center construction as pivot points on which to focus their business efforts. But few have been as effective in executing on those plans as Rambus has. The company now gets 75% of its revenue from chips and silicon intellectual property associated with AI and data centers. That played in instrumental role in pushing product revenue up at a 28% average annual pace between 2019 and 2024. In particular, demand for memory interface chips from Rambus has been voracious . Memory chip revenue has climbed 42% per year over the past five years as Rambus has expanded its portfolio of products in the area. Those results have come largely because of the importance of Rambus' dynamic random access memory (RDRAM) in the hierarchy of memory solutions. Data centers rely on hard disk drives and solid state drives for large volumes of data, but they're much slower to access than the RDRAM and other novel memory solutions that Rambus has embraced. Yet it's also important to recogn...

Google’s search feature AI Overviews cites YouTube more than any medical website when answering queries about health conditions, according to research that raises fresh questions about a tool seen by 2 billion people each month. The company has said its AI summaries, which appear at the top of search results and use generative AI to answer questions from users, are “reliable” and cite reputable medical sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Mayo Clinic. However, a study that analysed responses to more than 50,000 health queries, captured using Google searches from Berlin, found the top cited source was YouTube. The video-sharing platform is the world’s second most visited website, after Google itself, and is owned by Google. Researchers at SE Ranking, a search engine optimisation platform, found YouTube made up 4.43% of all AI Overview citations. No hospital network, government health portal, medical association or academic institution came close to that number, they said. “This matters because YouTube is not a medical publisher,” the researchers wrote. “It is a general-purpose video platform. Anyone can upload content there (eg board-certified physicians, hospital channels, but also wellness influencers, life coaches, and creators with no medical training at all).” Google told the Guardian that AI Overviews was designed to surface high-quality content from reputable sources, regardless of format, and a variety of credible health authorities and licensed medical professionals created content on YouTube. The study’s findings could not be extrapolated to other regions as it was conducted using German-language queries in Germany, it said. The research comes after a Guardian investigation found people were being put at risk of harm by false and misleading health information in Google AI Overviews responses. In one case that experts said was “dangerous” and “alarming”, Google provided bogus information about crucial liver function tests th...

We’re in a unique moment for AI companies building their own foundation model. First, there is a whole generation of industry veterans who made their name at major tech companies and are now going solo. You also have legendary researchers with immense experience but ambiguous commercial aspirations. There’s a clear chance that at least some of these new labs will become OpenAI-sized behemoths, but there’s also room for them to putter around doing interesting research without worrying too much about commercialization. The end result? It’s getting hard to tell who is actually trying to make money. To make things simpler, I’m proposing a kind of sliding scale for any company making a foundation model. It’s a five-level scale where it doesn’t matter if you’re actually making money – only if you’re trying to. The idea here is to measure ambition, not success. Think of it in these terms: Level 5 : We are already making millions of dollars every day, thank you very much. : We are already making millions of dollars every day, thank you very much. Level 4: We have a detailed multi-stage plan to become the richest human beings on Earth. We have a detailed multi-stage plan to become the richest human beings on Earth. Level 3: We have many promising product ideas, which will be revealed in the fullness of time. We have many promising product ideas, which will be revealed in the fullness of time. Level 2: We have the outlines of a concept of a plan . We have the outlines of a concept of a plan Level 1: True wealth is when you love yourself. The big names are all at Level 5: OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, and so on. The scale gets more interesting with the new generation of labs launching now, with big dreams but ambitions that can be harder to read. Crucially, the people involved in these labs can generally choose whatever level they want. There’s so much money in AI right now that no one is going to interrogate them for a business plan. Even if the lab is just a research project, i...

Key Points SoundHound AI is looking to be a leader in voice-powered artificial intelligence (AI) agents. Salesforce has made smart moves to help become the master record for organizational data. 10 stocks we like better than SoundHound AI › The next big evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to be agentic AI, where AI agents will go out and perform tasks on their own with little to no human supervision. The technology carries the promise of an AI agent workforce that works alongside everyday employees. Not surprisingly, there are a multitude of companies chasing this opportunity. Two of the most intriguing ones are SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN) and Salesforce (NYSE: CRM). Both are coming at the technology differently, and both have something unique that helps them stand out. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now, when you join Stock Advisor. See the stocks » Let's delve into the prospects of the two stocks to see which is the better buy. SoundHound AI: A leader in voice-first AI agents Over the past few years, SoundHound has established itself as a leader in AI voice technology. The company created a platform that can interact more naturally with people through its use of "speech-to-meaning" and "deep meaning understanding" technology, where it can recognize someone's intent even before they are finished speaking, much like how humans process speech. This technology by itself has found strong footholds in the auto and restaurant industries. However, SoundHound saw where the puck was moving with AI and smartly went out and acquired Amelia, which brought with it virtual agents that were being used in several industries, including highly regulated ones like healthcare and financial services. It then combined the two companies' technologies to launch a voice-first AI agent platform, and later acquired a company for workflow automation. Today, SoundHound is looking to offer c...

Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. Federal agents in Minneapolis repeatedly punched a man, forced him to the ground, and then shot him multiple times. The man was later pronounced dead. This is just the latest incident of deadly violence involving ICE, which has grown increasingly frequent, especially on the streets of Minneapolis. It’s been less than three weeks since an agent murdered Renée Good on January 7th. Just as in the case of the shooting of Good, video of the killing quickly started circulating online. Though I strongly urge readers to use their judgment before clicking through and pressing play. The video is upsetting and includes the graphic death of a human being. The Minnesota Star Tribune reports that ICE immediately tried to seize control of the situation by whisking witnesses off to the Whipple building, which has served as a base of operations and detention center during immigration raids in Minneapolis. ICE also attempted to order local police to leave the scene, but Chief Brian O’Hara refused to comply. The Star Tribune is updating regularly as information comes in.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariffs over its new trade deal with China toggle caption Jacques Boissinot/The Canadian Press via AP WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened to impose a 100% tariff on goods imported from Canada if America's northern neighbor went ahead with its China trade deal. Trump said in a social media post that if Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney "thinks he is going to make Canada a 'Drop Off Port' for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken." While Trump has waged a trade war over the past year, Canada this month negotiated a deal to lower tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in return for lower import taxes on Canadian farm products. Trump initially had said that agreement was what Carney "should be doing and it's a good thing for him to sign a trade deal." Sponsor Message Carney's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Trump's threat came amid an escalating war of words with Carney as the Republican president's push to acquire Greenland strained the NATO alliance. Trump had commented while in Davos, Switzerland, this week that "Canada lives because of the United States." Carney shot back that his nation can be an example that the world does not have to bend toward autocratic tendencies. Trump later revoked his invitation to Carney to join the president's "Board of Peace" that he is forming to try to resolve global conflicts. Trump's push to acquire Greenland has come after he has repeatedly needled Canada over its sovereignty and suggested it also be absorbed the United States as a 51st state. He resumed that this week, posting an altered image on social media showing a map of the United States that included Canada, Venezuela, Greenland and Cuba as part of its territory. In his message Saturday, Trump continued his provocations by calling Canada's leader "Governor Carney." Trump had used the same nickname for Carney's predecessor, Justin Trudeau, and his use...

BrianAJackson/iStock via Getty Images When I first wrote about Bristol Myers Squibb ( BMY ) in October 2025, the stock was near 5-year lows. My focus was on the Eliquis patent cliff, legacy erosion and execution risks. I saw valuations and dividend offering a decent margin of safety for patient capital. Since then, within 3 months, BMY has delivered a strong ~27% total return including dividends, implying that the easiest rerating part of the thesis has arrived ahead of time and should be largely done. What has changed since, is higher confidence in the company's forward earnings. The Q3 2025 earnings call and the Analyst Day call highlight growth portfolio momentum and plans to actively replace legacy revenues through CELMoDs, CAR-T expansion and platform reuse. However, much of this translation rests on execution and regulatory milestones. With the valuation reset I expected to capture largely complete and with key proof of execution still ahead, the investment case shifts from a high conviction rerating to a balanced Hold stance. Take some disciplined profits off the table - a ~25% price return is almost 5 years of dividends in a very short term, for context. Revisiting the Portfolio On the topline front, Q3 delivered decent growth after a couple of quarters of insipid and negative growth trends. The numbers were encouraging for revenue durability, with the growth portfolio delivering ~16% YTD growth YoY and multiple assets delivering at scale (4 products annualizing at over $1b in the growth portfolio). Eliquis sales grew by ~23% supported by Medicare Part D redesign and improved access. This helped turnaround US growth from negative territory in Q2 to mildly positive Guidance for the full year was revised upward by $750m. Revenue Growth YoY - BMY (Seeking Alpha) However, legacy erosion is expected to continue at pace, with management guiding a full year decline of 15-17%. Also, it is hard to digest strong Eliquis numbers because it helps the near term cause, wh...

Federal officers have shot another person in Minneapolis amid the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, Governor Tim Walz said on Saturday. Walz, a Democrat, said in a social media post that he had been in contact with the White House after the shooting. He called on US President Donald Trump to end the crackdown in his state. The details surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear. Advertisement “Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now,” Walz said in a post on social media. Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said the person had a firearm with two magazines and that the situation was “evolving”. Advertisement After the shooting, bystanders gathered and screamed profanities at federal officers, calling them “cowards” and telling them to go home.
