Key Points SoundHound AI is looking to be a leader in voice-powered artificial intelligence (AI) agents. Salesforce has made smart moves to help become the master record for organizational data. 10 stocks we like better than SoundHound AI › The next big evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to be agentic AI, where AI agents will go out and perform tasks on their own with little to no human supervision. The technology carries the promise of an AI agent workforce that works alongside everyday employees. Not surprisingly, there are a multitude of companies chasing this opportunity. Two of the most intriguing ones are SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN) and Salesforce (NYSE: CRM). Both are coming at the technology differently, and both have something unique that helps them stand out. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now, when you join Stock Advisor. See the stocks » Let's delve into the prospects of the two stocks to see which is the better buy. SoundHound AI: A leader in voice-first AI agents Over the past few years, SoundHound has established itself as a leader in AI voice technology. The company created a platform that can interact more naturally with people through its use of "speech-to-meaning" and "deep meaning understanding" technology, where it can recognize someone's intent even before they are finished speaking, much like how humans process speech. This technology by itself has found strong footholds in the auto and restaurant industries. However, SoundHound saw where the puck was moving with AI and smartly went out and acquired Amelia, which brought with it virtual agents that were being used in several industries, including highly regulated ones like healthcare and financial services. It then combined the two companies' technologies to launch a voice-first AI agent platform, and later acquired a company for workflow automation. Today, SoundHound is looking to offer c...

Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. Federal agents in Minneapolis repeatedly punched a man, forced him to the ground, and then shot him multiple times. The man was later pronounced dead. This is just the latest incident of deadly violence involving ICE, which has grown increasingly frequent, especially on the streets of Minneapolis. It’s been less than three weeks since an agent murdered Renée Good on January 7th. Just as in the case of the shooting of Good, video of the killing quickly started circulating online. Though I strongly urge readers to use their judgment before clicking through and pressing play. The video is upsetting and includes the graphic death of a human being. The Minnesota Star Tribune reports that ICE immediately tried to seize control of the situation by whisking witnesses off to the Whipple building, which has served as a base of operations and detention center during immigration raids in Minneapolis. ICE also attempted to order local police to leave the scene, but Chief Brian O’Hara refused to comply. The Star Tribune is updating regularly as information comes in.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariffs over its new trade deal with China toggle caption Jacques Boissinot/The Canadian Press via AP WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened to impose a 100% tariff on goods imported from Canada if America's northern neighbor went ahead with its China trade deal. Trump said in a social media post that if Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney "thinks he is going to make Canada a 'Drop Off Port' for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken." While Trump has waged a trade war over the past year, Canada this month negotiated a deal to lower tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in return for lower import taxes on Canadian farm products. Trump initially had said that agreement was what Carney "should be doing and it's a good thing for him to sign a trade deal." Sponsor Message Carney's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Trump's threat came amid an escalating war of words with Carney as the Republican president's push to acquire Greenland strained the NATO alliance. Trump had commented while in Davos, Switzerland, this week that "Canada lives because of the United States." Carney shot back that his nation can be an example that the world does not have to bend toward autocratic tendencies. Trump later revoked his invitation to Carney to join the president's "Board of Peace" that he is forming to try to resolve global conflicts. Trump's push to acquire Greenland has come after he has repeatedly needled Canada over its sovereignty and suggested it also be absorbed the United States as a 51st state. He resumed that this week, posting an altered image on social media showing a map of the United States that included Canada, Venezuela, Greenland and Cuba as part of its territory. In his message Saturday, Trump continued his provocations by calling Canada's leader "Governor Carney." Trump had used the same nickname for Carney's predecessor, Justin Trudeau, and his use...

BrianAJackson/iStock via Getty Images When I first wrote about Bristol Myers Squibb ( BMY ) in October 2025, the stock was near 5-year lows. My focus was on the Eliquis patent cliff, legacy erosion and execution risks. I saw valuations and dividend offering a decent margin of safety for patient capital. Since then, within 3 months, BMY has delivered a strong ~27% total return including dividends, implying that the easiest rerating part of the thesis has arrived ahead of time and should be largely done. What has changed since, is higher confidence in the company's forward earnings. The Q3 2025 earnings call and the Analyst Day call highlight growth portfolio momentum and plans to actively replace legacy revenues through CELMoDs, CAR-T expansion and platform reuse. However, much of this translation rests on execution and regulatory milestones. With the valuation reset I expected to capture largely complete and with key proof of execution still ahead, the investment case shifts from a high conviction rerating to a balanced Hold stance. Take some disciplined profits off the table - a ~25% price return is almost 5 years of dividends in a very short term, for context. Revisiting the Portfolio On the topline front, Q3 delivered decent growth after a couple of quarters of insipid and negative growth trends. The numbers were encouraging for revenue durability, with the growth portfolio delivering ~16% YTD growth YoY and multiple assets delivering at scale (4 products annualizing at over $1b in the growth portfolio). Eliquis sales grew by ~23% supported by Medicare Part D redesign and improved access. This helped turnaround US growth from negative territory in Q2 to mildly positive Guidance for the full year was revised upward by $750m. Revenue Growth YoY - BMY (Seeking Alpha) However, legacy erosion is expected to continue at pace, with management guiding a full year decline of 15-17%. Also, it is hard to digest strong Eliquis numbers because it helps the near term cause, wh...

Walz, a Democrat, said in a social media post that he had been in contact with the White House after the shooting. He called on US President Donald Trump to end the crackdown in his state. The details surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear. Advertisement “Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now,” Walz said in a post on social media. Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said the person had a firearm with two magazines and that the situation was “evolving”. Sweetgreen stock is down big, but investors may ponder whether it's a buying opportunity or a sign to avoid the stock. Sweetgreen (SG +1.70%) has attempted to stand out in the fast-casual restaurant space by emphasizing healthy food. Even though other restaurants, such as Chipotle and Cava Group, emphasize natural ingredients, Sweetgreen more explicitly focuses on health and sustainability and has introduced automation in an attempt to cut costs. Nonetheless, Sweetgreen stock sells at a fraction of its $28 per share initial public offering (IPO) price from 2021. Knowing that, can Sweetgreen find a way to generate shareholder returns, or is this a stock investors need to avoid? The state of Sweetgreen On the surface, Sweetgreen looks like an intriguing concept. Amid the push for health, customers have turned to meals like salads and protein bowls. Moreover, the company invested in a robotics-based system to make food preparation more efficient. Unfortunately, this has not translated into gains for the company or its stock. The company planned to open 37 new restaurants in 2025 and had 266 restaurants as of the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2025 (ended Sept. 28). However, despite that increase, revenue in the first nine months of fiscal 2025 grew by 2% to $524 million. That included a 7% drop in same-store sales over the same period. Additionally, total operating expenses increased over that time frame, calling into question how well its moves to cut costs have worked. As a result, the $84 million net loss in the first three quarters of 2025 increased from $61 million in the same year-ago period. The company has responded to its struggles by slowing new restaurant growth to 20 restaurants in 2026. It also holds $130 million in cash and will gain an additional $100 million when it sells its automation unit, Spyce (it still retains licensing to that technology). That buys it time to orchestrate a turnaround. Unfortunately, the stock has experienced a near-80% price...

Meta Platforms (META), the parent of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, has ruled a digital empire built on advertising dollars flowing through its vast social universe. Threads, once a side conversation born within that ecosystem, is now stepping into the spotlight as Meta rolls out ads on Threads globally and officially flips the monetization switch. For the tech giant, it's more than a routine product update. It marks the point of a fast-scaling microblogging platform beginning to carry real economic weight. With more than 400 million monthly users and daily engagement now rivaling Elon Musk’s X, Threads is quickly growing out of its experimental phase into a revenue engine. Meta is rolling out the same ad tools that have powered Facebook and Instagram for years – carousel ads, rich visuals, Advantage+ features, and easy campaign management across platforms – while adding brand-safety checks to keep advertisers at ease. For investors, though, Meta has always been a thrilling yet temperamental companion. After a strong run into Q3 2025, the stock gave back gains as Wall Street fixates on Meta’s massive spending plans. A looming CapEx surge, persistent rate worries, and frothy AI valuations have kept sentiment on edge. With Threads emerging as a potential growth catalyst, should investors stay the course with META, trim exposure, or lean in and add the stock to their portfolios? About Meta Stock Meta Platforms hardly needs an introduction. Born as Facebook in 2004, the company has evolved far beyond its dorm-room origins into a global digital ecosystem spanning Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and now Threads. What began as a simple newsfeed has steadily transformed into a platform shaping how billions communicate, create, and connect. Today, Meta is leaning hard into artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality, and its long-term metaverse ambitions, positioning itself as infrastructure for the next wave of digital interaction. The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming. Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID—this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement. About 200 rioters arrived at the scene and began to obstruct and assault law enforcement on the scene, crowd control measures were deployed for the safety of the public and law enforcement. As noted by DHS, protesters have come out in force, resulting in the deployment of tear gas. 🚨BREAKING: Total CHAOS unfolding right now at the Minneapolis Border Patrol shooting scene, leftist mobs swarming, clashing with agents, blocking streets, and turning it into a war zone. The Dutch chipmaking equipment giant could indeed achieve such solid growth thanks to increased capex by key semiconductor manufacturers. 10 stocks we like better than ASML › ASML Holding (NASDAQ: ASML) stock has been on a red-hot run on the market over the past year, rising an impressive 75% as compared to the 47% gains clocked by the PHLX Semiconductor Sector index during this period. The good news is that ASML is likely to sustain its momentum going forward as well. Importantly, that demand is here to stay, according to investment bank Morgan Stanley, potentially paving the way for more upside in ASML stock. Let's see why Morgan Stanley believes that ASML's stock market rally is likely to continue. Strong chip demand should boost ASML's equipment orders Morgan Stanley points out that the increase in semiconductor manufacturing capacity by chipmakers and foundries to meet the booming demand for AI chips could send ASML stock up by 70%. Trump Says Canada Will Face 100% Tariffs if It "Makes A Deal With China" Authored by Omid Ghoreishi via The Epoch Times, U.S. President Donald Trump says Canadian goods exported to the United States would be hit with 100 percent tariffs if Canada makes a deal with China. “ If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken. China will eat Canada alive, completely devour it, including the destruction of their businesses, social fabric, and general way of life,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on the morning of Jan. 24. “If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” The U.S. president wrote the remarks while posting a Jan. 23 article by Just the News titled, “Deal with the Devil: How Canada’s New Partnership With China Could Backfire.” Trump’s reference to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as “Governor” marks a return to the relations the U.S. president had with Carney’s predecessor, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, using the title to reflect his view that Canada should be part of the United States. Trump had not previously used the title for Carney, saying on several occasions that he likes him, but relations soured after Carney delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, last week in which he levied heavy criticism at the United States. Prior to arriving in Davos, Carney met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing, where he signed a series of agreements that included slashing tariffs on Chinese EV imports from 100 percent to 6.1 percent for the first 49,000 units, in exchange for China cutting tariffs on Canadian canola from 85 percent to 15 percent until at least the end of the year. While in Beijing, Carney said Canada–China relations are entering a “new era,” and that Ottawa’...

Kenishirotie/iStock via Getty Images Introduction Granite Point Mortgage Trust ( GPMT ) focuses on originating and investing in floating rate commercial mortgage loans. The company has gone through a difficult past few years, and in my recent articles on Granite Point, I focused on its preferred shares, as those, of course, rank senior to the common securities. As it has already been a while since my previous article was published, I thought this is a good moment to have another look at Granite Point, before it publishes its FY 2025 earnings. Data by YCharts The results: the situation should be improving Although the company uses the ‘distributable earnings’ (hereinafter ‘DE’) as its main performance metric, the calculation of the DE uses the reported net income as its starting point. We are still waiting for Granite Point to report its full-year result, I wanted to have a look back at the 9M 2025 results to get a better idea of where the company may be going from here. In the third quarter of 2025, Granite Point reported a total interest income of $33.7M , which is almost a quarter lower compared to the Q3 2024 interest income. That’s not necessarily bad news, as the total amount of interest expenses decreased by about a third. And that means the net interest income increased by just over a third on a YoY basis. An excellent performance on a YoY basis, but it’s also a substantial improvement from the weaker performance in the first semester. GPMT Investor Relations The income statement above also shows the increased revenue from real estate owned operations. Unfortunately, this still doesn’t cover the total real estate related expenses, and it explains once again why Granite Point prefers to have its loans in good standing over repossessing assets. In any case, the company reported a profit of $3M (as it was also able to benefit from a reversal of loan loss provisions). And while that sounds positive, keep in mind the quarterly preferred dividend payments are costi...

New York, January 24, 2026, 10:46 (EST) — Market closed. Palantir shares ended Friday roughly 2.2% higher, closing at $169.60. A UK defence ministry notice revealed a £240.6 million contract with Palantir’s UK branch, covering April 2026 through March 2029. Investors are watching the Fed meeting set for Jan. 27-28 and Palantir’s earnings release on Feb. 2. Palantir Technologies Inc (PLTR.O) closed Friday up at $169.60, marking a volatile start to the year for the stock as U.S. markets head into the weekend shutdown. (Yahoo Finance) This move is significant since Palantir has turned into a popular bet on both government tech budgets and the potential for “AI” software to generate steady revenue. With a packed earnings slate coming up on Wall Street, traders are quick to sell off anything that smells like hype without solid numbers to back it up. Britain’s Ministry of Defence posted a contract notice revealing a £240.6 million agreement with Palantir Technologies UK, Ltd. The contract runs from April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2029. Described as a “direct award,” the deal bypassed a full competitive tender. A redacted version of the contract will be available upon request 90 days after the award date. (Find a Tender) Palantir sells data-analysis and decision-support software to governments and corporations, while aggressively promoting its artificial intelligence products. Any hint of new defense contracts, even if the revenue is delayed, usually boosts confidence in its government pipeline. Friday saw the Dow drop 0.58%, with the S&P 500 holding steady and the Nasdaq gaining 0.28%, wrapping up what Reuters called a volatile week for risk appetite. (Reuters) Next week’s schedule will be the real test. “It’s been a short but intense roller-coaster,” said Yung-Yu Ma, chief investment strategist at PNC Financial Services Group, as focus shifts from geopolitical news back to earnings and interest rates. Tim Evans | Reuters Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Saturday called on President Donald Trump to end sweeping Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the state after what officials and witnesses described as a second shooting this month by federal agents in Minneapolis. "I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning," Walz wrote in a post on X. "Minnesota has had it. This is sickening. The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now." The governor's comments came after The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that a man was shot multiple times by federal agents in south Minneapolis on Saturday morning, citing sources. A video circulating online, captured outside Glam Doll Donuts, shows agents wrestling a man to the ground before gunshots ring out, investigators told the Tribune. Minneapolis officials urged the public to avoid the area and remain calm as local law enforcement and state patrol units arrived to separate protesters from the ICE personnel, the Tribune reported. SoundHound and Salesforce are betting big on agentic AI. The next big evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to be agentic AI, where AI agents will go out and perform tasks on their own with little to no human supervision. The technology carries the promise of an AI agent workforce that works alongside everyday employees. Not surprisingly, there are a multitude of companies chasing this opportunity. Two of the most intriguing ones are SoundHound AI (SOUN 5.18%) and Salesforce (CRM 0.03%). Both are coming at the technology differently, and both have something unique that helps them stand out. Let's delve into the prospects of the two stocks to see which is the better buy. It then combined the two companies' technologies to launch a voice-first AI agent platform, and later acquired a company for workflow automation. Today, SoundHound is looking to offer customers an end-to-end AI customer service solution that can interact with people naturally. It's just at the beginning of pursui...

Minneapolis officials on Saturday morning said they are aware of reports of another shooting involving federal law enforcement officers in the city. The shooting comes less than three weeks after Renee Good, an American citizen, was shot and killed by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis while she tried driving away from a confrontation, sparking protests nationwide. City officials said in their statement that the “shooting involving federal law enforcement” occurred in the area of West 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue South – and that they are “working to confirm additional details”. “We ask the public to remain calm and avoid the immediate area,” the statement added. A law enforcement source directly briefed on the situation provided the Guardian with a photo of a handgun next to a loaded magazine. “Suspect had a firearm with two magazines,” the source said. “Situation evolving. Will get … more information ASAP.” Minnesota’s governor, Tim Walz, added in a statement shortly afterward that he has spoken with the White House “after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning”. “Minnesota has had it,” said Walz, who was Kamala Harris’s running mate in the 2024 presidential election that she lost to Donald Trump. “This is sickening.” “The president must end this operation,” Walz also said, referring to the Trump administration’s ongoing immigration enforcement operation in the state. “Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota,” he added. “Now.” The Minneapolis police department and the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Guardian on Saturday morning. A video circulating online on Saturday morning, which matches the reported location of the shooting mentioned by the officials, shows a man being wrestled to the ground by several law enforcement officers, before being shot, what appears to be several times. At least two officers can be seen with their weapons drawn. Bill ...
