China's DeepSeek ( DEEPSEEK ) will use chips designed by Huawei Technologies to run its new model V4, The Information reported, citing five people with direct knowledge of the purchase. Ahead of V4’s launch, Chinese tech giants including Alibaba Group, ByteDance, and Tencent Holdings have reportedly placed bulk orders for Huawei’s upcoming chips, totaling hundreds of thousands of units. The next-generation model is likely to be launched in the coming weeks. DeepSeek is also developing two additional V4 variants, each tailored for different capabilities and designed to run on Chinese-made chips, the report said. The Hangzhou-based AI startup has spent the past few months working directly with Huawei and another Chinese chip designer, Cambricon Technologies, to rewrite and test the model’s underlying code, as per the report that cited two people close to the company.
