Inanity Of Identity Politics Exposed At Canadian NDP Convention Authored by Jonathan Turley, The recent convention of the Canadian New Democratic Party (NDP) became a microcosm of the inanity of identity politics found in forums ranging from politics to higher education. Participants were given familiar “equity cards” as literal card-carrying members of groups demanding preferred treatment. The problem is when one identity group demands preference over another. The result, as seen in Winnipeg, was calamity and quickly became comedy. Many in education have long pushed equity cards and “identity markers” to get students to define themselves by their race, disability, gender, or other criteria. Even computer science teachers are told to tailor their lessons to identity markers. Such markers are treated as essential to creating “Identity safe classrooms.” There are even DEI games where children are encouraged to “match” their identity groups. At the NDP convention, people were given equity cards to give preference to certain identities over groups such as males or whites. The problem is that the cards create an entitlement that can clash with others’ claims to speak first. The cards were based on identity categories, including gender, race and ethnicity, LGBTQ+ status, and Indigenous status. You were supposed to be able to jump ahead of others because of your priority identity. One video shows a person holding up their green gender equity card to claim the right to speak first as another woman waves her pink race equity card to speak. What followed were objections to people not yielding to those with greater priority or right to speak with one noting that cards for people who identify as Black women “ have no value outside of this space .” Then there was the speaker who called out another delegate for the sin of misgendering the speaking who identified as “non-binary.” The collapse of the equity house of cards is due to the inherent myth that identity politics produces ...

Almost 7 years ago, I made a small profit with LUMN, but since then, the going has been difficult. I was bearish on Lumen when I should have been bullish and vice versa. Last October, after a couple of years sitting on the sidelines, I turned bullish on the prospects for Lumen as I thought the company was on the right track to grow adjusted EBITDA in 2026. Since then, the stock has lost just over 1% of its value. Last January, I made a case for why Lumen deserves to trade at premium valuation multiples compared to legacy telcos. My argument was that Lumen was no longer a legacy telco business but a tech business. LUMN has lost ~15% since then. Now that Lumen has reported Q4 2025 earnings and set a baseline for 2026 expectations, I wanted to revisit my thesis. Rather than looking at all aspects of my thesis, I thought it best to look at the timeline for PCF contract revenue conversion cycles to get a better understanding of when Lumen will finally get a revenue boost from the secured PCF contracts. Understanding When PCF Contracts Hit Revenue Lumen is solving real-world connectivity problems for hyperscalers who are aggressively investing billions of dollars in AI infrastructure. This is where PCF contracts are used. Internet bandwidth through traditional networks has been proven insufficient to handle the data loads required to train LLM models. A PCF contract allows a customer to get access to a private, custom fiber network with a very high capacity and low latency. Some of Lumen's major PCF customers include tech giants such as Microsoft Corporation ( MSFT ), Meta Platforms, Inc. ( META ), Amazon.com, Inc. ( AMZN ), Alphabet Inc. Nevertheless, Europe and Asia remain attractive markets for Novo Nordisk to capitalize on. Business Overview Novo Nordisk is a Danish pharmaceutical company and with a market cap of ~150 billion USD amongst the biggest companies in all of Europe. Their products c an be divided into four segments . The most important segment, measured by revenue, is diabetes, accounting for 67% of total revenue. Key products are Ozempic and Rybelsus, accounting for 61% and 11% of Diabetes revenue respectively. The second largest segment is obesity at 26.5% of Total revenue, which mainly consists of Wegovy. Ozempic, Rybelsus and Wegovy all consist of semaglutide, a peptide that imitates glucagon. For diabetics, glucagon is the hormone which transfers sugar from the liver into the blood. Obese people make use of semaglutide since glucagon helps lower the appetite and therefore stops cravings. Side effects of this peptide are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea . Ozempic is administered via injection, while Rybelsus has the same function, just as a oral medication. Wegovy can be accessed via injection or orally. Together, these three medications combined account for 73.7% of total revenue and therefore form the core of Novo Nordisk's business. Earlier this year, Wegovy as a 7.2 mg dose was approved, improving weight loss results to 20.7% in 72 weeks, compared to 16.6% achieved by the original 2.4 mg dose.
