Wigmore Hall, London The quartet communicated intimately and naturally in a programme of music by Shostakovich, Ravel and Stravinsky A hushed chord sustained by the second violin, viola and cello. Fragments of a melody played as a distant memory by the first violin, which reached slowly upwards to a final crystalline harmonic. Pizzicato, diminuendo, silence. In this captivating performance by the Danish String Quartet , stillness settled over the closing portion of Shostakovich ’s String Quartet No 3 in F Op 73 like heavy snow. Bow changes became impossibly seamless. The quartet’s silken tone appeared to exude eerily, disconnected from the basic friction of hair on string. Such quiet control was all the more striking in the wake of jagged, impassioned solo interjections, deeply incised octave unisons and phrases pursued as if the musicians’ survival depended on it. There was articulation so spiky it was percussive – all contact, no resonance – and passages that sounded symphonic in their velveteen richness. Yet there were also moments of polite levity and luminous classicism. The atmospheric gearshifts were sometimes imperceptibly gradual, sometimes violent, but rarely visible: beyond describing itself as “relatively bearded” , the Danish String Quartet is not an ensemble given to choreographed spectacle. The consensus EPS Estimate is $1.96 , while revenue is likely to jump around 20.1% Y/Y to $19.09B. The tech giant is expected to show strength in its cloud computing unit and a greater focus on return on invested capital, according to analysts at Citi . The brokerage sees in-line but accelerating IaaS growth this quarter. “While investor concerns linger on financing/execution of capacity buildouts, we believe ORCL remains on track to deliver one of the strongest revenue/EPS accelerations in tech as large AI contracts ramp,” Citi analyst Tyler Radke wrote in a note to clients. Meanwhile, BNP Paribas expects the company to increase its capital spending forecast. Stefan Slowinski, who has a $283 price target on Oracle, said that capex guidance for fiscal 2027 could be anywhere between $80B and $100B as the company accelerates the development of some Stargate campuses and spends additional money on Nvidia ( NVDA ) GPUs. The AI infrastructure business will likely remain front and center, Seeking Alpha analyst Justin Purohit noted. He believes investors’ key focus to be around capacity expansion, backlog conversion, and whether demand still continues to outpace supply. The analyst will also be watching out for the management’s commentary on its remaining performance obligations. “ORCL’s remaining performance obligations ballooned to over $500B previously, so from my lens, I’ll want clarity around how quickly that backlog can realistically convert into revenue,” Purohit noted. Over the last 3 months, EPS estimates have seen 20 upward revisions and 12 downward. Revenue estimates have seen 12 upward revisions and 15 downward, reflecting a neutral stance among analysts. Over the last 2 years, ORCL has beaten EPS estimates 50% of the time and has beaten revenue estimates 38% of the time. More on Oracle Oracle: Earnings Could Re...

Trump's Economic Shield Cracks As Gas Prices And Iran Standoff Threaten Midterm Fortunes As we continue to 'enjoy' expensive gas across the country thanks to a broken campaign promise not to start new wars, President Donald Trump enters the 2026 midterm campaign with an unfamiliar vulnerability: voters are feeling the pain. High gasoline prices , fueled by the prolonged U.S. military confrontation with Iran and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, have turned inflation into a daily political problem for the White House. Trump's approval ratings have fallen near the lowest point of either of his presidential terms , with especially sharp declines in approval over the economy - long one of his strongest political defenses . Public frustration over affordability, a concern that helped return him to the White House, has not eased . Source: RealClearPolitics The White House, meanwhile, is touting tax refunds delivered under last year's legislation, and the administration's promise of abundant domestic energy. But those messages have been overshadowed by the reality on Main St. " I think the president was being truthful when he said he really didn't care about the midterms ," said Mick Mulvaney, former acting White House chief of staff. "But House and Senate Republicans do care. And if gas is still north of $4 by Labor Day, everybody in town knows that means trouble for the incumbent party. Big trouble. " Even if the Iran war ended tomorrow, some economists think that the damage already done to oil infrastructure - and the risks of renewed fighting, will keep upward pressure on prices. "We think that the drag on the economy due to the war will weigh heavily on household consumption among middle-class, working-class and the working poor ahead of the November congressional election," said Joseph Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM US. Noah Sauve Wells Fargo ( WFC ) expects its markets business to grow in the mid-teens Y/Y in Q2, Chief Financial Officer Mike Santomassimo said Tuesday at an investor conference. He also reaffirmed the company's 2026 target for $50B of net interest income. For Q2, the company's NII may be a little better than it modeled as the forecast for rate cuts has changed. Wells Fargo ( WFC ) expects its net interest margin, or NIM, to compress by about three or four basis points in Q2, then expects that compression to moderate, he said. Q1 2026 NIM had dipped to 2.47% from 2.60% in Q4 2025. Its investment banking business has improved, its consumer banking and credit card business remains strong, and its wealth management business is growing, he said at the Morgan Stanley U.S. Financials Conference. "We're not overly reliant on any one thing" to reach the bank's return goals. The bank targets a 17%-18% return on tangible common equity. On the consumer credit card side, " We're not seeing a lot of change in behavior over the last few quarters… It's been very stable, very resilient," Santomassimo said. Consumer spending through credit cards remains resilient, Wells Fargo ( WFC ). "T hat's translating into really good credit performance across all the portfolios." Consumer card spending has risen 9% Y/Y in May. And even though consumers are probably spending 45%-50% more on gas than they were a few months ago, Wells Fargo ( WFC ) isn' t seeing real changes in other aggregate categories, he said. He still notes there's caution on the commercial banking side. Many businesses are "h esitant to make a really big investment," he said. But that translates to good credit quality. Regarding capital deployment, the bank's "priority is always going to be supporting clients and growing organically," Santomassimo said . "We have plenty of capital to do that," adding that the company will find the balance between investment for growth and returns to shareholders. As for the threat of customer...
