Energy trader Pierre Andurand ’s largest hedge fund soared in the first quarter on bullish oil bets as the conflict in the Middle East triggered a global supply shock. The Andurand Commodities Discretionary Enhanced fund gained 31.1% in the period, according to a person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. The fund was down 4% in January, but then rose 4.6% in February and jumped 30.6% in March. A representative for the investment firm declined to comment. Oil futures climbed last month as the war choked off tanker flows from the Persian Gulf, forcing production shut-ins and triggering the biggest supply disruption on record. International benchmark Brent touched $119.50 a barrel on March 9. The commodity has since remained volatile, with the conflict spreading to regional energy infrastructure and US President Donald Trump offering mixed signals on the duration of American involvement. Crude traded above $109 on Thursday after Trump vowed an escalation in the war over the coming weeks, having previously indicated he was contemplating winding down military operations. Read More: Trump Envisions Withdrawal From Iran Within Two to Three Weeks Andurand’s gains this year mark a comeback for the trader, whose Discretionary Enhanced fund lost 40% in 2025 . Early in the conflict, the fund advanced 6% in a week as huge swings in commodities caught many other hedge funds off-guard.

kynny/iStock via Getty Images Mercury Systems ( MRCY ) said Thursday that it secured a new contract from L3Harris Technologies ( LHX ) to provide solid-state data recorders for satellites supporting a key U.S. missile defense initiative, the company said Thursday. The award supports the U.S. Space Development Agency ’s Tranche 3 Tracking Layer, part of a broader effort to build a resilient, space-based network capable of detecting and tracking advanced missile threats, including hypersonic weapons. L3Harris ( LHX ) was selected in December to develop 18 infrared satellites for the program, which is a component of the agency’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture . The system is designed to provide persistent global coverage and real-time tracking data to improve U.S. defensive capabilities. Under the agreement, Mercury ( MRCY ) will supply radiation-tolerant solid-state data recorders, a critical onboard component that captures and preserves mission data in harsh space environments. The company said its technology is already deployed across all prior tranches of L3Harris-built Tracking Layer satellites. Mercury ( MRCY ) has completed delivery of recorders for Tranche 2 satellites and previously supplied systems for Tranche 0 and Tranche 1, underscoring its role as a key supplier in the program’s phased rollout. For Tranche 3, L3Harris ( LHX ) is adopting Mercury’s ( MRCY ) highest-capacity data recorder to date, designed to deliver increased performance and long-term data integrity in a compact 3U VPX form factor tailored for space missions. Mercury ( MRCY ) added that it is expanding manufacturing capacity and improving operational efficiency as demand grows for defense electronics across multiple domains, including space, air, land and sea. Md Ariful Islam/iStock via Getty Images In December 2024 , I upgraded shares of Kura Oncology ( KURA ) to Strong Buy ahead of the company's FDA approval of Komzifti (ziftomenib). Then as now, Kura's commercialization remains approximately 6 months behind Syndax Pharma ( SNDX ). While I have advocated a basket approach, holding both stocks; the investment thesis for Kura is that its differentiated safety profile , avoiding a boxed warning for QTc prolongation, positions Kura to win market share in the large front-line Acute Myeloid Leukemia (1L AML) market in patients with NPM1 mutated or KMT2A-rearranged cancer. This approval remains years in the future, with the current FDA approval representing the smaller market of R/R NPM1-m AML. Despite this $7B opportunity, Kura has lagged the overall market, returning -8% since I first upgraded around $9.12/share. With shares currently trading in the $8-range, the market is rewarding Syndax's early lead and doubting whether Kura's putative advantage will be sufficient to win market share. Kura's market cap of ~$715M remains deeply discounted, with a minuscule enterprise value when subtracting the company's strong liquidity of $667M in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments. The company has a partnership with the Japanese firm Kyowa Kirin, wherein profits from the drug are split and Kyowa Kirin shoulders most of the costs and pays Kura royalties. This agreement caps upside, but puts Kura in a favorable financial position, booking 100% of US sales as revenue. Last month, Kura reported Q4 2025 earnings booking $2.1M in sales for Komzifti in only the first 5 weeks following product launch. Thus, 2026 is an execution year: to outperform the stock will have to prove the market's pessimism overdone. However, analyst's estimates for 2026 revenue with the consensus at $111.4M seems very achievable. Importantly, Kura guided for 2026 milestone payments of $45M-$55M , thus the mid-point implies $61.4M in Komzifti sales, a run ...

At this point, Greg Abel, Buffett's successor, has made two notable decisions around Kraft Heinz (NASDAQ: KHC) . And both say a lot about what Berkshire Hathaway investors can expect in the future. Warren Buffett has described investing in Kraft Heinz as a mistake. That revelation came as the consumer staples maker announced material write downs, which Buffett admitted was an indication that he had overpaid for the business. Every investor makes mistakes, even the co-called Oracle of Omaha. Image source: The Motley Fool. Continue reading
