ServiceNow 's (NYSE: NOW) stock has been cut nearly in half since last summer, swept up in a sell-off across software stocks driven by the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). That's a steep decline for a company that doubled free cash flow (FCF) over the past three years and is embedded inside most of the Fortune 500 companies. At roughly 26 times trailing FCF, it's the cheapest the stock has been in years as advancing technology begins to threaten its moat and the economics of ServiceNow's highly profitable business model. The company built the plumbing that big companies use to run their operations, routing work requests, tracking completion, and managing handoffs between departments. Underneath all of it sits a single system of record that controls access to critical functions across the organization. Replacing that configuration takes years of work, and those switching costs are why 98% of customers renew. Continue reading

Getty Images Introduction When the Iran war or conflict began, I, like many investors, at first thought and hoped it would be a weekend event, which was perhaps naive. I then began to restructure the portfolio to a first hedge risk with an oil price ETF and Virtual Global ( VG ), an LNG producer facing significant negative FCF . As the conflict continued, the destruction of 3% of global LNG capacity (Qatargas) changed my short-term mindset, and now I believe LNG prices may be high for a few years. This prompted an analysis of the coal sector and Core Natural Resources ( CNR ). I have now researched Woodside Energy ( WDS ), an Australian oil and LNG producer that, unfortunately, has a conservative commercial strategy and has contracted 70% of LNG through YE28. Higher LNG for longer LNG is primarily used as the fuel for electricity generation in Europe, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Coal can be substituted, but at an environmental cost most countries would prefer to avoid. The Iran conflict has resulted in a blockade of about 20% of global LNG supplies, primarily from Qatargas, which has already driven prices to double but is still below the levels seen in 2022 due to the Ukraine invasion. The destruction of two trains at the Qatar plant may take 3 to 5 years to repair, and it cuts global supply by as much as 3% or 12.8m tons, which may not sound like much but is sufficient to maintain a tight market through 2028, when new capacity from the US, Australia, and Argentina comes online. In addition, EU storage levels are low post-winter, and the summer refill season puts more pressure on the market. Under this scenario, LNG prices may remain at the $25/BTU level in the European and Asian markets over the next two years, lower than the peak of $70/BTU during the Ukraine war, as coal replaces LNG in some cases. What seems evident is that if/when the Iran conflict ends today and LNG flows resume, there will be a structural 3% deficit for a few years. Created by author with data ...
