Fifa has found its tournament squarely caught up in the second Trump administration’s aggressive border restrictions For successive men’s World Cup tournaments Fifa has managed to bulldoze its way through costly immigration and entry requirements. In 2014, Brazil passed a law granting free temporary visas to ticket holders, and for Russia and Qatar, the respective autocracies bypassed traditional border friction using Fan IDs and Hayya cards as makeshift visa entry documents that also provided free public transport. Not so in 2026, where Fifa has found its tournament squarely caught up in the second Trump administration’s aggressive border restrictions. Here are some of the people that have been affected. Trump-Netanyahu "Differences": A Good Cop-Bad Cop Routine By Michael Every of Rabobank As You Were... But As Who Was? Yesterday nearly saw a full restart of the Israel-Iran war, apparently pulled back from the brink by intervention from President Trump. After yet another Middle East rollercoaster for markets it’s now ‘as you were’, with oil --so everything else-- little changed. The larger issue behind that pricing, however, is the key question - ‘ As who was?’ Iran set up its proxy network, centered on terror group Hezbollah in Lebanon, to protect itself: if Israel attacked it, Hezbollah would attack Israel. However, Tehran now has to attack Israel, with counterattacks on it in response, to defend its ‘shield’. That’s a huge Iranian strategic setback. As such, Tehran is trying to tie Israel vs. Hezbollah to itself vs. the US to divide the US from Israel, which now have different needs: a deal vs. finishing the job militarily or via regime change. That dynamic has huge implications for when and how this war ends, so for energy, so for markets. While Israel and Iran say they will stop their attacks, Israeli PM Netanyahu last night gave a public address where he stated: “Iran and Hezbollah are weaker than ever, and we are stronger than ever – but our battle against them is still not finished . In the last 24 hours, Iran and Hezbollah tried to impose a new equation upon us… an equation I find intolerable and unacceptable. They thought they would fire at Israel from Lebanese territory and from Iran – and we would not act. That did not happen, and it will not happen. Not on my watch!... At the moment, we are holding our fire, because after we struck the terror regime in Tehran, it ceased attacking us. In the event that Iran makes the mistake of resuming attacks on us – we will respond with overwhelming force .” Moreover, Israel will hit Hezbollah in Beirut if it fires at Israel from south Lebanon, which Iran says is a red line that will trigger more attacks on the Jewish...

Leon Neal/Getty Images News BP ( BP ) down 1.4% in early trading Tuesday after naming Gordon Birrell as head of its upstream division and Richard Harding as interim head of downstream, as it starts to fill in the details of its new organizational structure to simplify the company. Birrell oversaw BP's ( BP ) production and operations business, one of many roles he has held at the company, while Harding replaced former customers and products business chief Emma Delaney, who left the company in April. BP ( BP ) said a recruitment process is underway to appoint a permanent head of the downstream business. The company's new structure, with one operating segment focused on resource development and production, and the other on customers and markets, "will clarify accountabilities and enable faster, more effective decision-making," new CEO Meg O'Neill said. The reorganization is designed to clarify who owns what, speed up decision-making, and make BP ( BP ) easier to understand both internally and externally, the CEO told employees in an internal message seen by Bloomberg. Following a classic integrated oil and gas company structure, the upstream division will bring together BP's ( BP ) oil and gas activities, including exploration, development, and production as well as its upstream joint ventures and its renewable natural gas and carbon capture businesses. BP's ( BP ) downstream divison will include refining, terminals, pipelines, mobility and convenience, biofuels, aviation, hydrogen, and its Castrol lubcricants brand. The rollout of BP's ( BP ) revamped structure follows last month's firing of former chairman Albert Manifold over bullying allegations just eight months after he joined the company and shortly after the hiring of O'Neill as CEO. Our newsletter journey today begins on the same continent Black Sabbath did: Europe, where countries are still trying to figure out the most cost-effective way to swat down drone attacks . Germany is going to buy almost a half-billion dollars’ worth of boring-but-important recovery vehicles for its military from defense giant Rheinmetall AG, which just scored a separate $6.7 billion sale to Romania . One of the two pan-European sixth-generation fighter programs, FCAS, is dead after its two main partners, Germany and France, decided to quietly put it out of its misery. In the US, the Army is warning lawmakers that draft legislation limiting the use of Chinese-made equipment in data centers may hurt the military’s efforts to build those data centers. Japan and the Philippines are becoming more vocal about the Taiwan issue even as the US tones down its own language about the self-ruled island. And then we come, as always, to Iran , the Strait of Hormuz , oil and the global economic shock of conflict. Would you like to know more? Since April 8, when the ceasefire went into effect, there have been dozens of instances of, you know, firing between the US, Israel and Iran. What the ceasefire mainly seems to have done is calm the markets . The price of oil is, despite a few spikes in April and May, roughly the same as it was eight weeks ago. So are defense shares, globally speaking, ac...

Bill Pugliano | Getty Images Stellantis is recalling more than 1.3 million Jeep SUVs and trucks worldwide over fire concerns and is urging owners to park outside and away from structures or other vehicles until a fix is completed. In a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Tuesday, Stellantis said the recall covers 2021 through 2025 model-year Jeep Wrangler SUVs and Jeep Gladiator trucks due to an electrical connection issue in the electric-hydraulic power steering pump wiring. The automaker said the issue could, in rare circumstances, cause combustible materials to overheat, potentially leading to a vehicle fire. A loose electrical connection can result in melting of the connection, which could ultimately lead to a vehicle fire, added Stellantis, whose brands also include Fiat, Chrysler and Peugeot. At least 72 fires possibly tied to issue Stellantis said it was aware of customer assistance records and field reports of at least 72 fires that may be tied to the issue, and one injury. The recall includes nearly 1.08 million vehicles in the United States, 106,000 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico and about 125,000 in other markets around the world, Stellantis said. NHTSA opened an investigation in September 2024 into nearly 800,000 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles from the 2021-2023 model years over engine fire concerns, saying the hydraulic power steering pump wiring may overheat and cause a vehicle fire, even when the vehicle is parked with the ignition in the "Off" position. Increase in incidents Stellantis said in its filing that in 2023 and early 2024, it investigated fires in some Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles but closed the investigation due to the low rate of fires. In August 2024, it reopened the investigation after ...

After a week of video game news and trailers from PlayStation , Xbox , and most of the major publishers , it’s now Nintendo’s turn. And the next Nintendo Direct comes at an important time for the company. The Switch 2 is getting a price hike , and at the same time, the console’s lineup of new games through the end of the year is virtually nonexistent. That means that the Direct is the ideal place to sell people on the more expensive Switch 2 during the all-important holiday season. Nintendo isn’t saying what exactly what will be shown, but the showcase will be a lengthy one. The company says that it “will run for roughly 50 minutes and highlight upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch games,” and will also be followed by a Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentation with around an hour and a half of gameplay from titles featured in the main Direct. At the very least, expect to learn the release date for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave . But this also seems like an opportunity to bring out some of its big guns for the Switch 2’s second year, so maybe we’ll see the return of a major franchise like The Legend of Zelda or a 3D Super Mario . Whatever Nintendo has in store, you can watch it live here at 10AM ET on June 9th, and follow along for all of the major announcements. Another big RPG is coming to the Switch 2. Groovy. A little pre-show surprise. Nintendo news direct from the source. Nintendo’s next Direct showcase is on June 9th
