Oracle’s ORCL increasing cloud capital spending is positioning the company for its next growth phase by expanding capacity to meet rising AI and enterprise cloud demand. Management raised its fiscal 2026 capital expenditure forecast to around $50 billion, nearly $15 billion above earlier estimates, reflecting strong visibility into cloud bookings and future workloads. During the second quarter of fiscal 2026, Oracle invested roughly $12 billion, primarily in GPU-based infrastructure and data centers to support growth in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. While this heavy spending drove negative free cash flow in the quarter, the company emphasized that most of this expenditure is focused on revenue-generating equipment rather than long-term real estate assets. Because the equipment is added late in the data center build cycle, Oracle can start generating revenues shortly after customers go live, shortening the gap between investment and monetization. These investments are closely linked to Oracle’s expanding backlog and demand pipeline. Management said many new bookings can be monetized quickly because capacity is already available or under construction. It can be hard sometimes to keep up with the deluge of generative AI in Google products. Even if you try to avoid it all, there are some features that still manage to get in your face. Case in point: AI Overviews. This AI-powered search experience has a reputation for getting things wrong, but you may notice some improvements soon. Google says AI Overviews is being upgraded to the latest Gemini 3 models with a more conversational bent. In just the last year, Google has radically expanded the number of searches on which you get an AI Overview at the top. Today, the chatbot will almost always have an answer for your query, which has relied mostly on models in Google's Gemini 2.5 family. There was nothing wrong with Gemini 2.5 as generative AI models go, but Gemini 3 is a little better by every metric. There are, of course, multiple flavors of Gemini 3, and Google doesn't like to be specific about which ones appear in your searches. What Google does say is that AI Overviews chooses the right model for the job. So if you're searching for something simple for which there are a lot of valid sources, AI Overviews may manifest something like Gemini 3 Flash without running through a ton of reasoning tokens. Strong e-commerce results from the holiday season The fourth quarter includes the all-important holiday season, so it typically has the highest sales volume of the year. That's why a typical sales chart has highs and lows that correlate annually. Results from other sources show strong spending for the 2025 holiday season, especially for e-commerce. According to preliminary results from Visa, holiday spending increased 4.2% year over year, while e-commerce sales increased 7.8%. The company is upgrading its AI-powered search features, adding Gemini 3 to AI Overviews and letting users ask follow-up questions “seamlessly” to make sure Search can answer “whatever’s on your mind,” a move that feels closer to using an AI chatbot than a search engine. If Overviews’ summary leaves you wanting more, you can now jump straight into a conversation with AI Mode. “A quick snapshot when you need it, and deeper conversation when you want it,” says Google Search vice president of product Robby Stein. Switching between the two features looks incredibly easy — just scroll and type — going by a test video Stein shared last year. Overviews are getting an upgrade too, with Gemini 3 now the default model powering the AI-generated summaries globally, Stein says. The model, which wowed observers when it launched last year, means Overview answers will be “best-in-class,” Stein says. Users have had mixed results with previous models. The upgrades come as part of a broader seismic shift at Google as the company seems to be transitioning away from Search and pushes AI interactions above links. The routine is familiar by now. A new online shooter with bright, colorful graphics launches and rockets up the charts despite the fact that you maybe haven’t even heard of it. Or maybe it just has a really forgettable name. But everyone seems to be talking about it, and it’s free, so you figure you may as well jump in. This moment of promise and anticipation may end up being the best this game will ever be — and there’s a good chance that feeling won’t last long. I could be describing any number of games, but the most recent example is Highguard, which just launched on the PS5, Xbox, and Steam. The 3v3 shooter is the first release from Wildlight Entertainment, a new studio made up of veterans from Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Call of Duty. That pedigree is enough to pay some attention to the game, which was originally revealed as the final announcement at The Game Awards last month. But it’s also doing some interesting things. The developers call it a “raid shooter,” but I’ve found it easiest to understand as a sort of first-person shooter take on a MOBA like League of Legends; each team has a base, and your job is to balance getting improved gear, protecting your own base, and completing various objectives to take down your enemies’ HQ. Also, you can ride a bear. It’s a complicated setup, and after a few matches I’m not entirely convinced I fully understand the flow of matches, which could be a problem for wider adoption. It’s certainly not as pick-up-and-play as something like Fortnite. Though as you’d expect from people who worked on Titanfall, the action feels great, with excellent gunplay and smooth movement. It’s also a hero shooter, so you pick from characters with Overwatch-style ultimate powers that can let you quickly turn a battle in your favor, or smash through your opponents’ defenses.
